Since it's the off-season and things are slow, I hope that you join me in congratulating Kira and Jaxon's Dad on his appointment as head football coach at Fivay HS down in Florida.  He's done an awesome job as the interim guy and they made the right decision in giving him the official title!  Much luck and success to Fivay football!!!

Congrats Coach!

Thank you Kevin!  Appreciate it!

Chris Kappas named DIII Coordinator of the Year:

http://footballscoop.com/news/chris-kappas-division-iii-coordinator-of-the-year/

From the article: "The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by ProGrass are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football. The finalists (Dustin Beurer [Albion], Chris Knapp [Wesley], Wallie Kuchinski [St. Thomas] and Kappas) were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel. The prior winners selected this year's winner."

Wonder if Mount's O shredding Wesley and St. Thomas figured into this a bit?  Congrats to Coach Kappas - now please stay on at Mount Union with VK and Dartt for the next 20 years!

Dr. Acula

With Heacock leaving Toledo for Iowa St. Jason Candle has no defensive assistants currently listed on the UT website.  One would think that one or more folks in Alliance may be hearing from him.

Leave Kappas alone! I really have liked the Mount D the past couple seasons - especially this season. I expect he will get a call - just hope he doesn't answer.

Ok, I see the point. I guess the next question is whether the 2015 team is one of the best ever?  My vote is "yes". One has to factor in the coaching staff in that evaluation and we had a couple pretty good QB coaches in LK and Two Time Gagli winner Kevin. The defense was superb and the offense, led by a great QB, was unstoppable at years end. Where does this team fall on the list of the best Mount Union teams?

I've not seen all the Mt teams (only 8), but the best ever type comparisons are so hard. So much is relative to the competition played. I've certainly seen several more talented Mt teams.
This Mt team sure as heck played as a team and as confidently as any I've seen. And they played w overall speed (confidence).
In my opinion last year's Mt team was good enough to win the Stagg- but various reasons prevented it (and contrary to popular opinion, it wasn't domination by UWW's O line).
You rightly mention the coaching part of the best team ever.  I think Mt's coaches really brought their A games.
I sure can see a case for the best overall team performance.

Kappas will be the first to tell you, as will most coaches, you can't make chicken salad without the chicken...Mount's recruiting and player development is a real key to their continued dominance.  They work their butts off in both recruiting and development and it has paid off.

BTW, when is LK eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame??  I saw the Lycoming coach made it.  I remember his QB's famous quote when they were getting smoked in the Stagg.  Coach: "Whats going on, can't you see we have some open receivers?"
QB:     "Coach, all I can see is PURPLE !!"

I thought LK was eligible next year - but I also thought they made an "exception" to the rule for some (like Gagliardi). I think LK should have been put in 10 years ago.

"Criteria for coach nominees:
While each nominee's football achievements are of prime consideration, his post-football record as a citizen is also weighed. He must have proven himself worthy as a citizen, carrying the ideals of football forward into his relations with his community and his fellow man with love of his country.
A coach becomes eligible three years after retirement or immediately following retirement provided he is at least 70 years of age. Active coaches become eligible at 75 years of age.
The nominee must have held a head coaching position at the collegiate level for at least ten years.
The nominee must hold at least a .600 career record over the course of 100 games or more."

From Wikipedia, which isn't always accurate, but is certainly easy...

From College Football HoF:

So wiki was right ??? . Well let's see: 3 years after retirement (check). Coach for at least ten years (check). A .600 career record over at least 100 games.....(CHECK+++).
Got no answers on this one.
