Dr. Acula

The timing was poor, but the bigger issue for Cap is that they honestly need some freshmen to come in and contribute immediately.  If they do have a low number coming in that makes that less likely and really puts the new HC behind the 8 ball out of the gate.  If 18 is correct or even close to correct then 2016 and 2017 are going to be rough in Bexley.

My thought is that Mount Rushmore is more than great players - they sort of define Mount Union Football and are all-time greats (at Mount and nationally as well). Mine would be:

LK - without him....who knows.
Kmic - all divisions rushing, TDs in a season (career?)
Ballard - sentimental favorite because he was the first QB to go all the way (but Borchert may be better)
Jason Hall - set records at Mount that won't be broken anytime soon (takles in season, career)

Arguments could be made for others. Left Garcon and Shorts off because they didn't set national records - though they could have playing 4 quarters.

Greg Micheli
Kevin Burke
Chuck Moore
Cecil Shorts (Career Leader in Receiving Yards)
Ed Boubonics (Should have gotten a Pro Look)
Nick Driskill
Tom Lally
Hank Spencer

Too many for just 4 spots.

Not a bad list but I can't see Chuck over Kmic. Sorry but 8000 yards rushing is mind blowing.

Well since this is Mount Rushmore and the last time I looked there was only room for 4 I think the discussion no matter how hard it is that we need to narrow to four.

So far pretty significantly you put in Kmic, Ballard pretty much unanimously.  LK cannot go in because he is not a player.  Rushmore is only for presidents and even though without his leadership and getting the French money and arms and bodies we do not Ben Franklin's mug on that mountain.  (BTW If you talk about importance to the program LK is the person that is most important by far).

This outsider only saw Kmic play twice.  He was damn good.

Looking at the roster it appears the starting tackles beefed up since last fall.  Brooks Jenkins is listed at 6'4" 285 and Matt Fitchet is 6'4" 280.  I also noticed that Skyler Scott, who played some WR as a freshman, is now listed as a 6'2" 230 TE.

The Great Jim Ballard has to go on because he was the guy who broke down the gate, beating a great Rowan team. Bill Borchert, the Great Number 7, has to go on. It really gets tough then, but I put Jason Hall in because without him we don't beat Wisconsin LaCross in 1996, or win the Championship in 1998. Really tough between Kmic and Garcion but I pick Pierre because he's probably the best player ever to wear the Purple. Mark Black deserves consideration. Who are the best four offensive and defensive linemen? So many great players there. HS Coach would know.

Dr. Acula

Best O linemen I've seen were Weimer, Gerber, Lewis and Tate.

Who says a Mount Rushmore has to be limited to only 4 faces? It's possible that when the real Mount Rushmore was being planned, Gutzon Borglum selected the only 4 really good presidents he felt this country produce in it's first 130 years of history. Had there been a fifth or sixth, and additional funding available, he and his son might have made a sculpture with the additional faces to look at today. There's nothing written in stone that says a Mount Rushmore can only have 4 faces.

Moore shared carries with Pugh, ,so that cost him a ton of carries and yards.  At the time Moore played, I don't think the playoff carries were not part of his career NCAA stats.  Did they later add them?

section13raiderfan

And when Pugh had a backfield that he didnt have to share with Moore what happened? He broke the all divisions single season TD record. Havent checked but I believe it still stands. How can you say he wasnt worthy of Mt Rushmore status? If Chuck plays elsewhere ( banish the thought) what does Pughs career rushing record look like? Kmiclike possibly. How does Pugh not get an NFL tryout?

It doesn't still stand. Kmic got it...46 I believe. It is actually 44 (Kmic) in a season and 130 in career. That plus 8074 rushing yards, and 2790 in a season (both NCAA all divisions records) puts Kmic on any Mount Rushmore....well except for The Mount Rushmore (i.e. Presidents). I get the argument that this guy split carriers with that guy, etc..but Kmic's numbers speak for themselves. It isn't his fault he didn't have to split carries with Pugh, etc. Imagine Nate's numbers if he plays 4 quarters. With the Raiders up by 40+ and running on every play to burn clock - he goes over 9,000.

For the season and career records on Mount's site the playoff stats have been added so everyone is on equal footing for school records.  I don't believe the NCAA recognizes them from back then though.
