Just a couple of stats heading into this Saturdays game for Mount.

The last time Mount lost 2 times in the same year?  1994

The last time Mount lost 2 in a row?  1988

Thoughts on Saturday...

JCU followed the blueprint of how to beat Mount to perfection:
1)  Win the turnover battle.  Big, giant check mark there.  You just can't be minus 4 and expect to win.  Especially when one of those turnovers was returned for a TD and another occurred around the JCU 30.  When your offense isn't clicking you can't throw away chances like that.
2)  Win with line play.  HScoach always hammered on this from the UWW games and it's true.  If you can get pressure with 4 that's big.  JCU got pressure all day long.  I think 7 sacks?  And that's not counting them flushing Davis out of the pocket seemingly every pass play.  On the other side they protected Moeglin pretty well.
3)  Shut down Mount's running game.  This kind of goes with #2, but again JCU did it.  Davis had a few nice runs including that key 25 yard TD run right before half (that was huge at the time).  Other than that?  Nothing really.
4)  Weather the storm.  This can be two different things.  It can either mean don't get overwhelmed from the jump as happens often with early playoff opponents.  Or it can mean if you take the lead early and you're flying high you can't crash and burn when Mount comes back on you.  JCU did a great job of handling the latter.

All that being a long winded way to say great job, JCU.  They did exactly what they needed to and they clearly deserved to win that game any way you slice it.

Welcome to Geneva and the Finger Lakes Raider fans. The Statesmen are proud to host such a storied program.....although in my old years we did pretty well against you guys. If you are coming to the area beware that the D3 women's field hockey tourney is being hosted by us so Geneva rooms are probably gone. The weekend is supposed to be beautiful, come early and check out the wine tours...you will find Western NY similar to Ohio but finger lakes are beautiful with full Fall colors. We look forward to avenging recent playoff losses and you might be surprised by our talent this year.....because we WILL DEFEND THE BOZ😀

In that case, I hope you have ample parking, otherwise things could get a bit dicey.

12-0 = 13

JCU, favored over Olivet (4 TDs)

JCU, favored over Wesley (3 TDs)

JCU ... OK, it's Whitewater.

But why are you b*tching?  JCU is 2nd in their own division.  BP, it's just you.

The biggest obstacle I see for jcu is - they just beat Mount. Something Arth the player never saw. They just got an 800lb gorilla off their back. The hangover is their biggest opponent in Round 1. I know Tom was already looking at prospective opponents and game planning on the drive back to University Heights (he did afterall breakdown film for Peyton Manning). But those players have a tough task - forget about beating Mount. Whatever they do - it had better not be crap down their leg in round 1. If Mount has to travel because of a loss to jcu - they had better at least win a couple until...well Whitewater.

Exactly, I spoke about this yesterday. I do believe that this team however will be able to regroup and get to work, because for us, the Playoffs had started on Saturday in Alliance.

Mount will get more from this loss than they did from the previous 9 wins (IMHO). On the bright side: Mount lost a regular season game in 1994, another one in 2005, a third in 2016....so I guess we will talk about this again in 2027? ;D ;D

There are rooms available, except for the most popular/best rated(Geneva on the Lake, Belhurst castle, Ramada on the Lake)..lots of new hotels built in last 3 years(Fairfield, Holiday Inn Suites).....as far as parking..right next to the stadium will be filled by 10AM...my season parking pass is no good at NCAA games, damn...plenty of over fill..but a decent walk is involved...hope the Raider fans are coming out

#4 was especially impressive to me.  As a casual observer, I've scoreboard-watched a bunch of Mount games over the years and while some teams can jump out to a quick lead, usually once the momentum starts to go Mount's way it doesn't swing back (the handful of non-UWW teams that have truly challenged Mount over the years - Franklin, Wesley a few times - have been examples of the team that managed to "Weather the storm" and give some truly outstanding games as a result).  Once Mount had scored 21 straight points, I was about ready to write off the Streaks.  Quite impressive poise to answer on the next possession (even after missing the 2-pointer to tie, that score showed that JCU wasn't folding up and going home).
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

If any Raider fans are feeling blue just head over to the OAC website and look at BW down there in 9th place in the standings.  2-7!!  That always puts a smile on everyone's face.

Not even close.  And you've probably seen this video by now, but it's the absolute best depiction of what it feels like to be a Browns fan:

Awesome, pretty much sums it up...however as we all do, we'll see them on Sunday. +K

I'm comforted by the thought that the only two teams to beat UMU in the last 10 years will have to play each other before Mount would (hopefully) see them.

There's no way Mount should have to play a #19, 9-1 at their place. Mount is still the Champions of D III until beaten in the playoffs. No tip of the hat to the NCAA!!

Is this satire?  This is satire, right?

What Mount Union (or any team) has done prior to this season should have no bearing on their playoff seeding.  The 2016 version of Mount Union has played no one except for one opponent...and they lost to that opponent at home.  They're hardly the first team to go 9-1 and finish 2nd in the OAC to start on the road in the postseason.
