Isn't Geneva, NY where Jasper Collins went to HS?

Dr. Acula,

We missed the Raider/JCU game, were in warm LA. I was not even close to hearing it, then I saw the score. Your post
pretty  well covered it.

The last time the Raiders lost a regular season game, they also had 4 TO's against ONU in 2005. My take is that
while JCU has a good team, the Raiders did not have (at least last Saturday) the mental toughness or preparation.
It takes a young team to build that, and maybe they can in the next few weeks. I agree with an earlier post that
the loss may be helpful, and re-sets the bar. Let's hope they will move forward, since we know the future is very bright.

Hobart runs a 4-4-3.

They have good DEs but are a but light on DL. LBs are ok but one is FY and the JR is not very fast so I expect Kehres to exploit that Saturday.

Best defenders are Jemison, Harper and D'Antonio. FS and CBS are small but I didn't see a lot of tall WRs for Mount.TEs looked big, so maybe they play more of a role?

Oh, so you and the Mrs. were "cutting out" on your alma mater, basking in the Calif sun while the "biggest" game of the year for them is going on!  ;D  Just kidding!   Hope your trip away was good and safe.  Hobart is not that "out of the realm crazy drive" that some could be-are you going to the game or wait until Mount might get a next playoff game at home?  Good luck to your team; as you and others have said here, it will be interesting to see how they respond and probably bounce back.  I would venture a guess to say that they, most likely, will pull "an Iowa" after their disaster game the week before knocking off my Michigan.

BTW, regarding that game, I certainly give Iowa all credit for perseverance and a great game, but we do have to also acknowledge that Michigan, while it did not play well, could have still pulled out that game.  All they needed to do was make one first down at the end and they win.  I place some fault on Michigan's offensive coordinator as, IMO, he did not call a good game at all.  I am baffled as to what he was thinking?  There seemed to be no cohesive game plan-I realize most likely there was one, however, it just seemed somewhat irregular and "fly by the seat of your pants" type.  Very confusing.  Anyway, I suspect Michigan will beat Indiana, yet it will be a difficult task to beat Ohio State at their place and, while I am obviously rooting for Michigan, I am not placing any bets in their favor! ::) :o ??? :)

formerd3db, as you have probably heard by now, Michigan's qb, Wilton Speight, played the last several minutes of the game with an as-yet undiagnosed broken collarbone.  The OC may bear some of the blame, but I suspect the injury was a much greater factor in not being able to run out the clock.

For me, I think this is unproven, unwalked territory for Mount, and you really don't know how they will react to last week.  VK seems to have the right approach in that the worlds not ending, we will get up tomorrow and work, and get better by next week.

I have a tendency to be a skeptic as I get older, so I think Mount is in the "show me, don't tell me" phase at this point.  I think the offense will be decent, but I really need the defense to step up to another level that they have not shown this year as of yet.

Best guess.....Mount wins by 10 or loses by 3, or they channel the inner-machine and win by 30.  Who knows??????

My lovely wife has agreed to watching it on the Smart TV (she will be reading or playing games on her phone) before we go do our "Saturday stuff".

Anyone know anything about Olivet?

Based on the John Carroll football archives, the teams last met in 1937!!! :o

Nice Preview!

http://gohobart.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the link. It is a good preview and here is the part a lot of people seem to be overlooking:
"The Raiders have played five different QBs this season but it appears as though #9 FY QB Dom Davis should be the starter for this Saturday's game. Davis hails from Akron (and attended the same HS as LeBron James) and he showed some FY inexperience against a blitz-heavy JCU team that sacked him seven times and forced four turnovers. In spite of these issues, JCU needed a final drive plus some luck to break Mount Union's 112 regular season game winning streak. "

Losing to jcu SUCKS, heck losing SUCKS - but I am not cashing in the chips yet. The Raiders are young. We all know that. There seems to be some rumbling (granted on other boards) that the mystique is gone and that these are not the Raiders (except for the "Raiders" on the helmet). Look the mystique wasn't built on 1 game and it doesn't end with 1 loss to a pretty good team. Yes, jcu was garbage early (the BW game - woof!) but they got better each week and have been playing very well. Had Mount lost to anyone else in the OAC this year - maybe the mystique losses its luster. But they pasted the bottom of the conference and pasted the middle as well. The 2005 team rebounded from the ONU loss and went all the way. I am not delusional - this team isn't bringing back Walnut & Bronze - but I think this loss is a rally point. We have all talked about how hard a 10-0 or a 15-0 season is to pull off - staying on point all year, not overlooking anyone, being ready and focused every day and dialed in on Saturday. It is easier when you have a lot of upper classmen - but when you have a number of 1st year starters and FR at key positions it is tough. What I didn't see Saturday was players losing composure internally. No finger pointing or losing their head. I am taking it as it just wasn't their day. Having said that - don't sleep on the Raiders. Don't buy into the "this isn't the Raiders" opinion - they can still put 60 on the board in a heartbeat.

Like the blog noted - Mount played an awful game (4TOs, 7 sacks, D gave up a big run and struggled against pass all day) and jcu still had to play perfect to pull it out at the end. They may not be the 2015, 12, 08 (insert Championship team here) - but they aren't Otterbein either.

Herd Fulford was cleared to play. Doughtful he'll get any pt since he missed so much time.

Dr. Acula

^^^ Yeah, you can't imagine he'd see the field unless it was an emergency.  He cannot have much practice time under his belt since the injury.

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

I think he dressed last week.  Saw Poorman and Fulford throwing a couple of times on the sidelines during the game.
