I realize Davis didn't play great, but I have a feeling he was told to keep it tight on certain possessions. I really like his play at QB and hope he works hard to get better. I didn't see anything major that says he's not a leader on the field. He made some good reads and made some poor plays, but so did Jackson. I'm extremely happy with how the defense played! They made this a game. I didn't love some of the play calling in the 2nd half on O. I'd commit to the run game like the first half or open it up.  I guess I expected more from UMHB as well, but congrats and good luck in Salem.

Anyway, great run Raiders. Thank you to the seniors and good luck with your future endeavors. Get in the weight room and use the spring to get more comfortable with the defense. I just hope our coaching staff stays in tact.
I'm confident that we WILL come back stronger next season primed for another run!

Thank you to Charlie Dear and Bradley Mitchell.  Those two seniors in particular played their hearts out today.  If not for BJ we don't even have a shot at Salem today.  No kid wants to go out on a loss, but he can walk off knowing he did everything he could to get them there.

Yes to Dear (1st year starter) and Mitchell (questioned by many), but I'd also like to add Doraty and Jenkins on the Oline ding a nice job against a highly rated defensive line!

Btw any players and families out there, true Raider fans are PROUD of the team effort this season and not giving up, as well as improving since week 10!

Every board seems to have one ass.  Guess gizzmo replaced 70s.
maybe just someone who expects more. The defense was amazing today. U csnt tell me with competent qb play it wouldn't of turned out differently.  There will be a qb comp in spring.

Don't make excuses and except losing.

I don't think anyone on here "excepts" losing.  Whether or not they accept it is another matter altogether.

New Tradition

Really well fought today by both OAC teams.  A tip of the cap to you both from this NCC supporter.

Mount's performance today kinda makes you think that maybe the east wasn't as weak as some have harped on for three weeks now.
I really enjoyed watching this mortal Mount's run starting with the Hobart game.I think the talent gap between the top teams was much narrower this year. Not taking away anything from the Mount defensive performance, I think the Cru offensive line was not impressive for a semi-finalist team, and they should have a tough time against Oshkosh. I do think that the Cru defense was VERY strong, but Davis did have an off game, and with 3-4 more pass completions at the right time , I think Mount wins that game. I am sure UMU will be great next year with this experience, but the JCU game will be interesting. Thanks for giving us some great D3 football to watch.........from an "average" D3 fan

I can barely comprehend what you are saying. Get over yourself. Mount's D played their hearts out and that's what kept them in this game. UMHB made a few more plays to win today. The next few years between John Carroll and Mount will be interesting to watch.

Kudos to:

*   B. J. Mitchell, for breaking tackles left-&-right.  Abe Lincoln, in a letter to the diminutive but highly effective General Sheridan:  "When this peculiar war began, I thought a cavalryman should be six feet four inches, but I have changed my mind.  Five feet four will do in a pinch."

*   D3football.com, for anointing B.J. Mitchell "North Region Player O' The Year."  It's theoretically possible those guys know what they're talking about.

*  Vince Kehres, for coming thisclose to going to the Stagg Bowl again, this time with The Four Freshmen at quarterback.  (True freshmen, as far as I know.)

*  Tom Arth, for making quite the auspicious start to a coaching career.

*  The St. Thomas football team, for somehow coming within four points of beating Oshkosh and advancing to the semi-finals despite LOSING THE TURNOVER BATTLE 8-0.  You might be the best team in D3 football but nobody will ever know it.

mr_mom

This week's winner of the 2016 OAC Playoff Pick-Em with 15 points was Mr_MomWAHOO!  In your face!!  Uh-huh, uh-huh.  Well, also joelmama and Raiderplaybyplay, but most importantly Mr. Mom.

;) OK ... in all seriousness, both of our OAC teams made us proud, and seven of you picked them both to beat the spread.  firstdown, JCUStreaks70, joelmama, Kira & Jason's Dad, NCF, Raiderplaybyplay, and Shark.

But the real points were in the Guess-the-Spreads bonus where nearly everybody scored something.  Raider 68 should take over my job as he led the way with 12 points, I followed closely with 11, and both rams1102 and BillyRayJimBob scored 10, BillyRay nailing the JCU-UWO game.

So, going into the final week, BillyRayJimBob holds a slim 5-point lead.  The championship game will be worth five points, but as in previous years, there will be a series of statistical bonus questions.

I'll try to get them out Monday night, but since neither team is in the OAC, I need to do a little homework.   :)
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

I'll start by saying I am UMHB fan but I lurked on your board this week.  I was confident that UMHB could win, not to say they would win...then, reading your board, my confidence grew and I thought UMHB would win.  Goodness gracious, I don't know why some of you guys thought UMU would struggle.  That team is outstanding and played extremely well today, especially defensively.  Hats off to Mount and congrats on another great season.

Also, your linebacker, Dear is an absolute menace and was in on every play today.  Stud!!

Because we saw them play all year and saw exploitable weaknesses that did not get overcome via game experience and coaching. We dont just read about the games...we attend them and assess the style of play.

Well not everything. He could have jumped in front of Davis and intercepted a few of those shotgun snaps in the second half on some of the pass play calls.  :)

I noticed that UMUs center used a palm over the point technique on shotgun formation plays. Is this something they teach now? I saw some high snaps and thought that they kinda ruined the timing and flow of they plays. Not to mention that it requires the Qb to take his eyes off the field for a second and refocus on the timing. Ive seen it in the pros but the ball is delivered faster and more accurately there. I never played center but if I coached them I would discourage it. Anybody more knowledgable on line play wanna weigh in here? What is the upside vs downside?

Is it too early to speculate on Opening Day QB in 2017? Assuming all three are back.

Congrats to Mount on a fun, if not great, year.

Congrats to the Raiders on a hard fought game.
