Well I had a feeling about the defense, and they certainly proved they could rise to the occasion.  Hats off to BJ for one tough, gritty game.  Davis will definitely improve by using this game as a catalyst for next year.  He will also have major competition at the position, so I think that bodes well for Mount.

Both games were entertaining, and I think whoever said maybe there wasn't a true "super power" this year was correct.  Now today I get to watch the "battle of Ohio", which will be riveting in its entertainment value, and level of play.   ::)

There will be good competition for QB next year;

- A strong arm does not help if you miss your receivers a lot

- A good QB needs to see the field most of the time

- I do not buy that no one was ever open, I spoke to Mount fans at the game yesterday and there were open guys
despite what the announcers were saying. No disrespect to the UMHB defense, they played well

- Someone posted that another good QB is coming next fall, why?

- IMHO, Poorman and/or Fulford could have played  by the end of the season.

The Raider defense was great and so was BJ Mitchell, Great career for BJ! Need to find a top RB next year.

K & J Dad,

What's your breakdown of returners for next year?

It's better keep your mouth shut and let people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove it.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

+K to all involved.  Outstanding work.

gizzmo: I doubt that this will make much of an impression, but from what I've seen written here, you represent the absolute worst kind of fan.  I can't speak for all players, but in my day - I would have rather played in front of a half-capacity crowd that was 100% behind our team than a full-capacity crowd of fans like you.  The kind of guys who think the coach is an idiot after every running play that gets stopped ("OC has no imagination, the defense is always ready for that running play!") and incomplete pass ("Can't he hit anything?  Why does the coach play that guy?") and first down by the other team on a running play ("Put an extra guy in the box!") and short passing play ("Stop giving them so much cushion!") and long passing play ("How can you leave that guy one-on-one?").  Basically, unless your team wins 84-0, you've got something to complain about, and worse, you're grousing over the performance of kids that are NOT paid professionals and who owe you personally absolutely nothing.  Players in Division 3 don't play the game for fans.  They play it for themselves.  If you honestly feel that bitter, just stay home and save your energy for the Browns, who will still give you plenty to complain about and are at least being paid for their trouble.

I'm not at all opposed to reasoned critique and discussion; that's what the boards are here for, to speculate some on what's working, what's not, make predictions, etc.  What's not at all fun is watching one sore-loser of a fan lose all perspective as though he's personally entitled to watching "his" team win a national title every year, and going straight to finger-pointing and bashing "his" own team and coaching staff after a hard-fought 14-12 road loss in the national semifinals against a terrific program that's been banging on the door for a solid decade which has finally broken through and reached the Stagg Bowl.  Once in awhile, the other guy might do something right.  UMHB brought a tremendous team, a great gameplan, and won the game, slaying the giant for the first time in a long while.  Perhaps we might congratulate them instead of throwing your freshman quarterback straight under the bus.

I noticed that UMUs center used a palm over the point technique on shotgun formation plays. Is this something they teach now? I saw some high snaps and thought that they kinda ruined the timing and flow of they plays. Not to mention that it requires the Qb to take his eyes off the field for a second and refocus on the timing. Ive seen it in the pros but the ball is delivered faster and more accurately there. I never played center but if I coached them I would discourage it. Anybody more knowledgable on line play wanna weigh in here? What is the upside vs downside?

I played left tackle throughout college, but was our "emergency center" as a junior/senior so I had to practice some 'gun snaps, and to be honest I found it much harder to get the hang of the palm-over-point snap (always sent it back high and sorta slow-flipping; I joked with our coach that if I had to go in at center, we should just cross off all the shotgun plays for the rest of the game).  Now, our team's starting center did prefer the palm-over-point snap, so if your center can deliver it reliably, that is likely the preferred mode of delivery.  As you noted here, most teams in the pros and D1 that play extensively in the gun seem to use that technique; there must be a reason for it.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

+K.  Too bad I can only do it once.

It's been a great season and I have truly enjoyed watching this team play, especially in the playoffs.  Fans too often forget that they are simply spectators.  Enjoy the game, be passionate about it, but never assume the team owes you anything, or must live up to your expectations.  The guys on that field owe nothing to anyone except each other.  Support the team, cheer them on when they win, and feel bad for them when they lose, but don't make it personal.  Don't single out individual players or coaches as targets for your frustration.  It's not life and death.  In the final analysis, it's only a game.

Thank you Raider's for a great season of fun and thrills.  You bring honor to yourselves and to your University.
