my god settle, its ok to have negative comments, im proud of the team and what they accomplished. but we are allowed to criticize some things on here without certain people getting the panties all ruffled..

Agreed, as we should always support "our" team, we have the right to criticize the team/player if we feel so.  We are all disappointed when we lose and in times like these we tend to look for negative traits. I think it is fair to say Mount's QB struggled at times during this playoff run.

K & J's Dad,

Add MLB Charlie Dear to your 1st string defense for next year. Charlie is my neighbor and informed me some time ago that he had another year of eligibility. He has already informed the team that he is coming back next year. Is that great news or what?

IMO, Davis played great up until this past Weekend.  As a True Freshman (18 or 19 years old) leading the Defending National Champions to the Semifinals I think he played above expectations.

Hard to see how many open receivers there were based on Camera Angles during the game (as they usually focus on who has the ball), but I did see Kennedy on a deep drag, coming across the field, wide open on one of the plays Davis was scrambling to his right.  Davis ended up throwing the ball out of bounds.  I suspect that the pressure from UMHB front 4, and the dropping of 7 in coverage made it more difficult for him to find his receivers.  Also the pressure of playing in such a close game, on the road, with the weight of the program on his shoulders.

Again I think this team overachieved this year and I am very happily surprised on how well the Defense played this weekend, after giving up so many yards/points in the other playoff games.

Good looks for the future of UMU.

That's Great News for Charlie and the Defense! Just checked his Bio on the Roster and shows he was at Toledo in 2013 (probably redshirted), 2014-16 played for Mount.

Dr. Acula

After a day to digest and watch some of the game a second time, here are some thoughts on the game and season:

1)  First and foremost, what a defensive effort.  Truly a championship worthy performance from a maligned unit.  When it counted most they stepped up with their best performance of the year.  I don't know if one game can totally change the outlook for 2017, but it certainly helped a ton to me.

2)  The same exact thing can be said for BJ Mitchell.  What a gutsy game when his team needed him most.  He has taken some ribbing on here and not been given credit at times.  The offense sputtered Saturday, but he was their life support.  He gave them a chance to win.  Great job.  And great career too.  No, he's not Kmic or Moore or Pugh, but he was a very good back and he did it for 4 years.  That's nothing to sneeze at.

3)  Hats off to the coaching staff.  Great game plan Saturday, great job coaxing this green team to within a FG drive of Salem.  Honestly, it's incredible.  I thought they were sunk heading to Belton.  Instead they're 30 yards away from a game-winning FG attempt.  One of the best coaching jobs I've ever seen.

4)  As for the QB competition, I think it's only to be expected that there will be one.  And that has nothing to do with Davis.  It has everything to do with the fact that we're dealing with freshmen.  We have not seen a freshman QB in over 20 years.  There's a reason.  They're rarely ready to play.  I think we're going to see a lot of growth in our QB's from freshmen to sophomores.  They may not grow at the same speed though.  What we do know is the best guy is going to play.  I think this year showed us that when 3 different kids started.

Overall this team exceeded my expectations, especially Saturday.  Thank you to all the seniors.  Their heart and leadership willed this team to a higher level than I thought possible.  Thanks for the ride.  They return a ton next year and they're battle tested now.  And we have our QB spot sewed up for the next 3 years regardless of who plays.  I'm already looking forward to 2017!

That'd be fantastic news.  He played lights out in the playoffs.  I like that combo with Robinson developing alongside him.

Stop yelling at me! I'm gonna have to be like Lady Gaga and call a media outlet so I can tell how this gave me PTSD.  ;D

But - that is great news about Charlie and great news for the D.

Not used to my season summation being given this early but here goes.

A lot of streaks came to an end, and another Streak is on the rise. This year the following Raiders streaks ended:
112 game Home winning streak
114 game Road winning streak
24 consecutive OAC title streak
12 consecutive Stagg Bowl appearance streak

For the first time in god knows how long the Raiders will start next season with a "0" in all categories. In other words: the Raiders reset button has been hit. I think this could be a good thing. We have wondered from time to time how much pressure is on the team to live up to the past teams. A legacy that started before these kids were born. That pressure is off - but new pressure added: build your own legacy. IN addition, JCU (you earned it) looks like it has made the turn around and will be an actual opponent for the foreseeable future. This will be good for the Raiders. This season had its share of disappointments but also showed a great deal of promise on the horizon. Mount had 3 Freshman perform very well (at times) at QB. They outperformed expectations and even with their 3rd string QB (at the start of the season) and what was considered to be a "weak" defense - they were that close to packing the bags for Salem.

For next year - Mount will again be loaded with talent, now with a season under their belt.
QB: Take your pick. Davis, Poorman and Fulford all performed very well and showed they can lead the team and make plays.
WR: Ruth, Hill, Haynes and Friss are back. Losing TK (one of my favs) but the depth is excellent.
RB: Losing BJ, a great player, but getting Aaron, Nero and Morris back as well as the JV kid this year that showed some talent.
OL: Biggest hit here. Losing Herrington (TE) Doraty and Jenkins. But solid group with Moxie (TE), Fitchett, Iziarry, Brown, and Parrish back.

on D everyone is back except Zach Deerr, Redman and Sullins. The leadership for the unit is back and Vidal, Mihochi, Dear, Elijah Berry, Lou Berry and Austin White had good years to build on. The D looks great next year. The question is coaching. Mount has had the enviable fortune of the staff staying intact. If it remains intact for next year - Roll Raiders~Roll!

To a great season and many great seasons in the future - Cheers!

Congrats to UMU & JCU on excellent seasons.

I really thought Mt may steal it when they got the ball back at the 45 with over 2 mins left and a couple of TOs. Unfortunately that Cru defender made a right place, right time read and that was it. Could have gone either way.

Ultimately an entertaining playoffs for D3 and a good match up for Friday night.

inwould also say not to forget the team speed of UMHB. Davis threw one pass to a "wide open" receiver and Hickey turned on the jets and picked of the pass. the receiver had several steps on him. I've watched all year as "open" receivers failed to be open when the down field pass got there
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Know that we are officially in the off season with both John Carroll and Mount Union done playing. Does anyone know where Baldwin Wallace is in their search for a new head coach???

OAC Pick-Em spreads are (spread is) posted.  Ten bonus questions ... 25 points at large ... almost everyone is still in it.

Remember, the Stagg Bowl is Friday night.  Please get your selections in before the game starts.

No, no Sir, that is not the reality.  You do UW-Osh and UMHB a great dis-service by saying/promoting that.  I assume you jest.
