Despite starting from the 14 on their first possession, the average starting position for Mount's eight drives was the Marietta 44.  Remarkable.
Never underestimate the stimulation of eccentricity.

I've got news for everyone...I think we're going to really like Petruccelli.  He is something.  He just flat out hurdled a would be tackler.  And the guy wasn't diving.  It was crazy.  88 yards on 7 carries.

Another defensive TD puts MTU up 61-3 in 3rd Quarter.

Ive seen players get flagged for hurdling. Is that legal now?

For anyone interested BW and JCU are tied 21-21 early in the 4th.  Streaming video is solid.

Now would still be a good time to tune in...JCU up 24-21, but BW has the ball in JCU territory with under 5:00 to go.

Odd game between BW and jcu. BW only had 9 first downs all day. On the flipside jcu ran 30 more offensive plays for 30 more total yards???

UWW down 14-13 into 4th and scrore 27 to win...has beast risen from its slumber? Or was it the defensive efforts of one Famus Hasty (real name on UWW box score)

Thoughts on Mount yesterday:

I know it's against Etta, but 5 TD passes is still 5 TD passes.  That being said, Fulford was not quite as sharp as he was week 1 with his accuracy.  In his defense no one is going to be quite as accurate as he was week 1 though (16-21).  I was also happy to see that he really limited the running to plays where Etta got pressure and he was forced to scramble.  We don't need him taking too many unneeded shots against anyone not named JCU.  He's at 488 yards, 8 TD, 0 INT and 72% through 2 games.  You can't do much better than that.

Welcome to the party, Mr. Petruccelli.  It's hard to call a game where you rush for 88 yards a breakout game, but what was noticeable from game 1 to game 2 is that his time on the field increased.  He was effectively rotating series with JEM.  To me that means he must be doing the right things in practice.  He's going to be a good one and we're going to see it early on.  For everyone pining for a physical back he's it.  He does not shy away from contact.

The defense seemed a little flat on the opening drive and Etta did a nice job putting together a nice long drive with a lot of short, quick passes.  But they stuffed them on 4th down and then turned up the aggressiveness from then on.  They did a great job of forcing turnovers and just extinguishing any hope Etta had early on.  That last 20 minutes of the first half was textbook putting away an over matched team.  D forces turnovers, O makes them pay by scoring.  I don't know how much we'll learn next week.  I watched the BW/JCU game and for the 15th(?) straight year BW doesn't have much at QB.  They just don't seem to get the skill guys in Berea.

Other OAC thoughts:

ONU looked like they had defensive issues against Adrian and Berg certainly made them look like they did yesterday.  ONU had issues with an athletic WR from Adrian and Magee torched them yesterday (176 yds).  The Bears gave up 655 yards and 40 points to Berg.  Barring disastrous weather I don't see them offering a ton of resistance for the Mount offense.  Berg, in classic Berg fashion, seems to be in track meet mode again this year.  Both of those offenses will make Mount's D work for it.

BW/JCU was one of those close, bad games if that makes sense.  I thought Kukura ran hard for JCU, but outside of that their offense looked very mediocre the entire time I was watching.  Moeglin played the whole time at QB.  Their WRs did not look as good as last year's talented corps.  Defensively they were fine.  BW hit a couple big plays on them, but had trouble putting together any type of sustained drives for the most part.  Hilvert definitely has BW more competitive already.  He's going to improve that program quickly.  I still maintain that JCU and Mount are clearly the top 2, but I admit watching JCU yesterday did give me a slight pause.  They just didn't look great.  We'll see how BW looks against Mount this week though.

Powell and Poorman got snaps at QB behind Fulford yesterday.

Surprising, is Davis injured or has he just dropped that far on the depth chart? It sounded like he was playing well with the JVs last week.

I thought the hurdling penalty was a high school rule. Can't be a penalty in college or Reggie Bush would have been a drastically less effective rusher.

I tried posting this earlier but my computer wigged. 2nd attempt. Mount looked good but not great. Still had some miscues in the secondary, coverage lapses, open recievers - a better team capitalizes on these mistakes. Etta could have scored on a few possessions but the D tightened up when they had to. I was not impressed with the pressure from Mounts D. I orginally thought they flushed the QB a few times but on second look they appeared more designed rollouts.

The offense looked ok. Was impressed with Petruccelli (SP). Looks like a solid option, good vision. However, I don't see a RB that will make you pay if you don't account for him. It is a stable of good backs but no one stands out as a game changer. The WR are a different story. Hill and Ruth are both #1 WR and it is tough to cover them both and account for an additional 3 or 4 legitimate options. WR is the strength on the O. Fulford.....he looks good and comforatable but I am going to need at least another game. His percentage is great, no mistakes but I can't be sold on Etta and NCW.

JCU/BW was ugly and odd. BW played above they ability and JCU played below their billing. I look at JCU like Michigan. I see you ranking, I just don't see how you got it. Oh well. On to Mount BW and the first game I will attend with my daughters this year. Very cool that they have both been talking about the game for 2 weeks...granted I think it is more about the brunch.

I get a kick out of newbies concerned that their teams are not getting enough respect, or other teams are getting too much respect in the Top 25 poll.  When you have been around for a while, you realize that the poll is for informational purposes and fun.  I llook it it as a list to try to figure out potential playoffs opponents and get to follow teams that we may see in the future.
D3 football is the only place that even attempts to rate our teams, and over time has demonstrated that they are the gold standard in reporting and analyzing division 3 football.
If you are not happy with where your team may be placed, give it time and it will come out in the wash as the season and playoffs go on.

I saw an OSU receiver get flagged for hurdling on a sideline pass that turned into a breakaway down the sideline (a couple of years ago). It was flagged for hurdling. Thats one way to protect the knees. You are correct that it is illegal in HS ball.
