No Mount players nominated for the Gagliardi?  Weird

I don't think the candidates have been released yet.

Sorry, Pat brought it up on the podcast.  He said it doesn't look like any Mount players would be nominated this year.

So he ran up 97 on a former assistant?  Wow, what a horse turd.  Did the former assistant do something to make him angry??
Hopefully what goes around comes around.  Supposedly LK ran a score against someone who had really pasted a really weak squad a week or two prior, just to teach a lesson.  But that is heresay and I have no corroboration on that.

All indications are that they have a really good relationship. I'm really curious what Coach Kilian would say, but I imagine he's not taking it too personally as he probably has a similar mentality to Caruso.

He certainly can't have been surprised. Caruso is consistent in his approach.

That was what the Gagliardi Trophy folks told me Mount Union decided. That could certainly change, but if there aren't juniors and seniors on offense who would make great candidates, then I could see it. Like the Heisman panel, this group seems to prefer running backs and quarterbacks.

"But, at the end of the day, it's really not serving the game well if you don't play your hardest."

Glenn Caruso calls out that piker Larry Kehres for not blowing out teams 100-0, 120-0, 150-0 all those times he had the opportunity over the years.

Larry Kehres (yeah, THAT Larry Kehres):  Well-known DIS-respecter of the game of football.

Oh stop it.  He didn't say a damn word about Larry Kehres.

Does that absolve this ass hat from his boorish behavior?  Just because "he is consistent"?  I have to believe Caruso is burning bridges in the coaching community faster than he is building them.

(Notice I used ass hat AND boorish in the same sentence.  Now that is vocabulary at many levels!)

I guess that's for you to be concerned about.

The consistent approach does somewhat come into play, because it's not just to rub it in anyone's faces or to run up the score. It helps explain it and I like to understand where he is coming from. He's certainly different and I don't agree with everything he says and does, but almost everything I've seen up close from him has been pretty impressive and I don't think he really needs to concern himself with my opinions. I'm obviously biased and drinking the purple kool-aid though, so you are welcome to take my opinions with a grain of salt.

having an OL run in a TD with 7 sec to go, in a 91-0 game wouldn't be rubbing it in your opponent's face? there might be an instance down the line where the Tommies might need that play.

Your coach is a joke.  I can't wait for one of the real teams in D3 to light up the Tommies in the playoffs.  I just hope its Mount...again

It certainly could be. But based on what I know, I have no reason to believe that that is the case, no.

I also hope we get a chance to face Mount again. And if Mount beats us down, so be it. We weren't prepared and the better team won.

Here's what I don't like about a comment like that. St. Thomas point differential by quarter:

1st: +121
2nd: +156
3rd: +119
4th: +31

Obviously, they aren't playing at the same level in the 4th that they are early on. So don't trot out that you're doing a disservice to the game by not playing super hard as some defense for a touchdown you score up 91 points with 7 seconds to go. Just say "I wanted to do this, this is how I run my program, and I don't care what you think"

So which is it: obviously running up the score? Or not playing super hard?

The difference in the 3rd and 4th quarter is the standard stuff a coach does in a blowout. Playing 3rd and 4th stringers (or beyond for home games, when 100+ kids get in the game) and mostly keeping the ball on the ground to stretch the clock while letting the backups and underclassmen who are in the game keep playing hard.

it's both.  Glen didn't run it up all year until the final game when he thought a 100-0 game would impress the playoff committee to give his team a #1 seed.  Doesn't look like his strategy worked.
