Strength of schedule will be significant there:

6 UW-Oshkosh   8-0   1.000   .5857 (13)   .5872   0.586
73 Mount Union   10-0   1.000   .5169 (86)   .5256   0.520

Over the years there has been a lot of discussion on how the NCAA selects seeds and home teams and there has been arguments on how consistent they have been over the years. With in the past often the same two teams ended up at the Stagg Bowl the Mount Union fans had little to argue the selection decisions. I suspect the how far the team advanced last year influence UWO will get the home semifinal game, but I wouldn't be happy with it.

As far as SOS impact is concerned your example above is a good example of the flaws with SOS.  UWO is a very good team but only played 9 regular season games.  Mount Union knows real well how difficult it is for really good teams on occasion to find teams that will schedule them.  In the example above the UWO SOS calculation was based on 8 games not 10 not 9 but 8 because only 8 of their games were against DIII teams. Early in the season UWO had to scramble to fill an opening for 9/9 and they found Virginia-Lynchburg.  If I'm correct Virginia-Lynchburg plays at a level below the quality of DIII and from what I can find on the Internet Virginia-Lynchburg ended this season 0-7 by being out scored by an average of probably 5 or 6 touchdowns a game. However, Virginia-Lynchburg record didn't impact SOS. I don't blame UWO because I understand they were in a difficult situation, but my point is putting too much inFlunce on SOS can be flawed.

Teams that play in larger conferences such as OAC will always have SOS limited because they number of conference games.

If we get by Frostberg, the school might arrange for a plane for the Oscosh game.  I've been to Madison twice, once for the Mount Union v. LaCross game.  It is a great college town.  Had a blast both times.  The cab driver I met was out of sight and had a lot of good suggestions for food and drink.   I'm sure there will be a bus or two.
So how does one best travel to Oscosh?

The school won't have to arrange a flight for the team. The NCAA TES website shows 577 miles. The NCAA will pay for it. If you mean for fans, that's obviously something different.

You may think I live in a closet! Or I'm naive. Maybe I'm just plain dumb. Or maybe I just ran into something I've never dealt with before. Yeah, let's go with the latter.
OK. Ready?
What are "PM's"? Will I be able to figure out how to get at them? Damn, I feel pretty stupid.

Just watched the W & J / Frostburg press conference.  If you get a chance to check it out, it is worth it.  The Frostburg State coach is a riot.  A mix between Andy Griffith, Glen Caruso, and Lee Corso.  He sure likes to hear himself talk, but is entertaining to say the least.

I too, think the Mount offense could be a real issue as far as consistency.  Perhaps the OC lacks the play calling experience to get a rhythm going and is just shooting from the hip.  I hope LK is involved in schooling this. Some of the calls have been head scratchers to those who have watched Mount run like a Rolex in the past.  I think the parts are there.

Frostburg has a couple guys who are really fine pass rushers and their DB's  have been very opportunistic.  Should be interesting.

Frostburg coach says his QB is a cross between Baker Mayfield and Johnny Manziel...This I gotta see.
Why is he in DIII?

We all know there are ALOT of kids in the division who could play at higher levels.

This is a very good team, who is tough and PTR with big backs.  I'm looking forward to this matchup.  I think we find out if Mount Union has that "Stagg Bowl" level of play this weekend.  FSU ran through Witt's defense and embarrassed W&J's defense on the road.  Having already won two road games, they are playing with house money.  I wish I could be in Alliance with skunks for this one.

*Side note:  I read somewhere FSU will have consecutively played the Nos. 1-3 in all-time wins after this game is completed.  Thats pretty cool.

Dr. Acula

Belated thoughts from Saturday:

I was pleased with the defense for the most part.  For a large chunk of the game the best threat Case had to move the chains was Cuda scrambling on a pass play.  I know that's due in part to the injured RB, but it's also due in part to Mount covering and swarming well.  Individually I thought Roesch stood out at DE.  Cox made several nice plays at S too.

Offensively it just seems like they're not in sync a lot of the time.  I don't know what the cause is, but it just feels that way to me.  My concern is if the offense can sustain long drives against good defenses.  We know they have quick strike ability with their WR's, but how many times have we seen in the past that when push comes to shove you absolutely have to be able to run the ball and move the chains.  I don't know if they can.  Against a top defense my confidence in the O line is not high.

A couple folks made comments about Fulford as a runner.  To me he is very misleading.  He's so fluid and athletic that I think it looks like he's a better runner than he actually is right now.  He runs east/west a lot.  He is nowhere near the runner Scott was which is no knock (Scott was a WR for a reason).  But he's also not the runner that Burke was because Burke had that instinct to know just how to gain the yards he needed and get down.  Cuda actually reminded me of Burke running the ball.  Not the fastest or the most elusive, but enough of both to be dangerous.  Fulford is only a sophomore so it's a little unfair to compare him to those two, but when you've had the season he has it's bound to happen.

Call me crazy, or biased, but after seeing what Mount did to Case on Saturday, and then what Oshkosh did to North Central, JCU is far and away the best 6-4 team in DIII football. Not only that, I think they are still one of the 25 best teams in DIII football.

With losing to both Oshkosh and Mount by a COMBINED 10 points, and then seeing what they are doing so far in the Playoffs says a lot, in my completely biased opinion! lol

Now, should we be ranked? No, I do not think so.. But I do believe that we are still one of the 25 best in football.

Again, I may be crazy or biased (maybe even both  :)) but just my two cents.
