Mike Vidal on Twitter referencing the National Anthem:

https://twitter.com/the_real_vidal/status/937127375673921537

Anybody want to translate?  Why does it matter where Frostburg stood for the anthem?

I don't think the issue was where Frostburg was standing, but rather what they were doing down in the end zone.  I don't think this is a National Anthem issue.  I was down in that end of the stadium and the Frostburg players were very vocal towards the Mount sideline and in close proximity.  I think that is the more "offensive" thing for the Mount team, all of the chest pounding and bravado was prior to the National Anthem

Thanks for the clarification.  Heaven forbid a team show up to Alliance with confidence and swagger.  I think the whole disrespect via lack of deference angle is silly, but whatever the Raiders need to invent to get pumped up for a quarterfinal game is fair game I guess.

show up with confidence and swagger all you want.  But beating your chest and yelling at the D3 program prior to the game is just stupid.  Get your team fired up on the sidelines, not 10 yards from the other team.  I'm guessing you weren't at the game and the feed didn't show it, but you sure made some assumptions.  Frostburg's actions prior to the game were disrespectful and they were punished appropriately.

I know Wabash always fights...yada yada, but does Wabash ever get past the quarterfinals?

What assumptions did I make, merle?  I'm interested to know what you read that I didn't say.

Not trying to speak for merle..I don't even know the language...but I was going to post that I am sure Wabash or any other team would have reacted in a similar fashion. I have no problem with it. Defend your turf.

Reacted to what though?   A team warming up in their own designated area of the field?  There's missing pieces here so it's not adding up to OMG I can't believe they did THAT.

You assumed that Mount needed "to invent" reasons "to get pumped up for a quarterfinal game".

You weren't at the game.  It wasn't "warming up in their designated area."  Another assumption from somebody that was not there nor saw it happen on the online feed.

Anygame I have ever attended (HS, College) has the teams at designated ends for pregame warmups etc. NOrmally the reserves line up across the field to separate the teams. Mount is the south endzone...for every game I have ever attended.

Regarding p. 15, Two Suggested Pregame Warm-Up Areas. My Mount Union Stadium experience, dates to 1967, and includes regular season and play-off games. The suggestion is essentially followed for the WARM UP session. After which, the teams retired to dressing rooms, returning for coin toss and national anthem. The guests stood respectfully in the end zone, in front of the flag of the United States. It seems that 'my' Purple Raiders may have been disrespectful and seized an opportunity to 'get pumped'. A petty ploy!

Early weather forecast for Oshkosh has a high of 22, but no chance of snow.  Alliance is 32, with a big chance of snow, so Oshkosh might be the better locale between the two.

This could be a high-scoring affair, with TO's the difference.

TOs ?

I think 'WRMUalum13' was questioning the punctuation, the use of the apostrophe.

I saw a comment from Frostburg Coach about the game. He said they had 'prepared for one offense and got another' due to the QB switch. Sorry- but I did not see a single difference in plays between the 2. The only play I did not see was the screen to Friss. Did anyone else notice a difference (aside from the execution which looked more crisp)?

I know he is probably just trying to rationalize it to players, fans and even himself...and I hate to do this (ok not really) but when you really put the numbers in their place - the game was even worse.
Boxscore for Frostburg:
Total Yds - 324
Pass - 272 (19 of 42)
Rush - 52 on 31 carries (1.7 per carry)
73 offensive plays for 324 yds = 4.4 per play

When you adjust to account for 1st against 1st team only
Frostburg:
Total Yds - 192
Pass - 175 (12 of 33)
Rush - 17 on 29 carries (.586 per carry)
56 offensive plays for 192 yds = 3.428 per play.

First on first - 70 to 24...and the 24 are legitimate points. Frostburg earned those. Kudos.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised a team would chest thump before a game. What does surprise me, is that Frostburg defenders weren't mentally disciplined enough to prevent 4 passing TD's over 35 yards.
If you're going to chest thump, at least have the football basics down.

I thought the same thing when I read that quote. I didn't see much difference in the play calling for Poorman than there was for Fulford.

Wally Wabash

I was at the game. I saw nothing wrong with where Frostburg lined up for the anthem. They stood on the goal line and joined hands. It allowed them to look straight ahead. They weren't really close enough to the Mount players to be heard, I don't think.
Mount could always stand on the other goal line, also facing the flag.
Wait a minute! We are actually spending time discussing where a team stood during the playing of the National Anthem. I know you didn't start all this, Wally. But I understand why you responded.
Merle hasn't yet learned not to mess with you.
Anybody for football? I hear we have a game Saturday. Go Raiders!

Maybe I should have addressed this post to Merle. Sorry Wally

For those who were at the game, what exactly did Frostburg do prior to the game to anger the Raiders?

I've read everything from standing in the MTU End zone during the Anthem, to chirping and posturing toward MTU when they re-took the field.
