So I will ask you the question if you were starting a team and could have them for one year which of those three in the North region would you choose?

No dog in this fight but I'll bite, Having seen all three, albeit a limited amount I would take Chase Burton from Franklin over the other two. Their offense is as sophisticated as any in D3 and the QB in that system has to be the guy. He was really impressive. No knock on Fulford or the Lakeland kid but I'd take Chase Burton, the experienced, veteran senior with a coaches grasp of the defense.

What?  How dare you bring logic into this discussion!   ::)

These regional voters who downgraded Fulford must have been such good kids when they were 17, 18, and 19.  I guess none of them even got a speeding ticket?  None were ever even alleged to have done anything wrong. No underage alcohol, no weed , no academic mistakes, no problems with teachers, coaches , or girls. NONE.  Wow. What pristine lives they led, or maybe they were just lucky and didn't get caught. They were just super smart and super mature those years. Either that or they are the worst kind of hypocrites. The choices made for All American and All Region quarterbacks, in the face of Fulford's year, have no credibility.
And another thing, The AFCA team is by far the most prestigious of the All American teams. One set of players, not everyone gets a prize, simply the best. Cole Parrish was selected as a starting offensive lineman. Lots of great players weren't, by the group selected by their peers to choose.
I'll shut up now.

There are two teams of players on the AFCA team.

Purple -- is Fulford paying your full rate for all the advocating you're doing for him on our websites? We get it.

Thought I would post this here since UMU is likely to be in TX next December for the Stagg Bowl. I drove by the stadium yesterday and will give the advice early that getting there early will be required to avoid the awful traffic in Houston.  Don't worry, there is a Hooters about a block from the stadium so if anyone needs me that day, I'll be there.  Looking forward to seeing the Stage Bowl in 2018.

Awful is an understatement. Houston is such a bizarre city. You enter the outskirts of Houston and then drive for another 90 minutes but you still haven't reached the city proper yet. Very much sprawling.
Maybe they could move the game to Saturday?  Would be really weird to watch a 70 degree Stagg Bowl.

Great idea, and makes a lot of sense.......however, ESPN controls the world and the game will be played when ESPN wants to televise (Friday, more than likely).....ugh.

I wish this was VK's twitter.  A&M-Commerce's head coach tweeted this, but the sentiment is the same

This belongs on the all-time classic wall.

No disrespect at all. I said he made a great catch. He did. I am not arguing anything about the safety. It was a safety. There is no excuse, UMU made plays and won the game.

UMU played a great defensive ball game and shut down The CRU offense. UMHB's defense played a very good game and, IMO, did miss making a play on the ball and the UMU receiver made a great catch. I am entitled to my opinion, right? That play, in particular, did not make a difference in the grand scheme of the game. The FG is all that was needed to win.

However, since we don't want to disrespect Mount intentionally or unintentionally, if it will make you happy: Hill beat both defenders, he was wide open and Fulford rifled a bullet that only Hill could catch. The pair made the UMHB look silly on that play. All Hail the Purple Raiders, UMHB never had a chance. UMU was merciful and put a governor on its Ferrari of an offense so as not to embarrass The CRU in the final Stagg Bowl in Salem. Thank you UMU for being so gracious. Please allow us to kiss any one of your 13 rings.

Changing the story-line mid-stream. You specifically said: "two UMHB defenders had an opportunity to make the interception and did not." Kelly, you are entitled to your opinion. If you watch the replay, (10 times or so helps), you will see your opinion is wrong- unless of course your opinion is that on every pass completion in every football game where defenders are close, they also had an "opportunity to make an interception." In my book, if they can't get their hands on it, they can't intercept it. For those that say the "ball went through a defenders arms", or the "two defenders bumped into each", that's wrong too, watch the replay.
All the diversionary fluff in this post has nothing to do with my point.

Now I have to challenge another very specific point you raised: "That play, in particular, did not make a difference in the grand scheme of the game."
Are you sure about that? You can't use hindsight here, you have to put yourself in the shoes of UMHB players. Are you sure the 10-0 score didn't make a difference in their approach to the game from that point forward? Are you sure Wilkerson didn't feel he had to make a play on that kick return knowing they were now down 10-0?
Are you sure the confidence and energy of the players (especially the offensive line) wasn't depleted just a little after that score? Isn't it possible the Cru offense performs better at 3-0 then it does at 10-0?

Kelly - Are you aware Emma's a WIAC guy, not an OAC guy?

There are a number of posters on D3 who have a fairly good reputation for objectivity.  Emma's one of them.

Doesn't mean he's right on everything.  (Who is?)  But one thing he isn't is a Mount Union homer.

As to the play in question:  I don't see how anybody can tell who touched what on that play without slow motion - maybe SUPER slow motion - and/or player interviews of all three competitors.  Personally, I've already changed MY mind three or four times.

I'll revise my statement... but don't you know, emma is right! Always and everytime.

I appreciate all Pat, et al, do on this site, but I really don't have the time... it is, after all, just one play.

Mount won the game - no ifs, ands, or buts. No excuses, no nothing. Mount won and played a superior defensive game against UMHB. There is nothing else to say.

I only hope The CRU can manage to make it back to the Stagg Bowl next year.

I was there in person and it was a great catch/concentration by the receiver and from my vantage point it could have been knock down/intercepted. However, it happens all the time throughout the season. When the opportunity comes knocking, you have to make the play, Mount receiver made the play, UMHB DBs didn't. The DBs did have an opportunity, the receiver had beaten the DBs, but the ball was underthrown, which gave the DBs the opportunity.
