Not to knock NDSU but I believe 3 or 4 of their National Championships were in the poll era and back in like 1965. Maybe MUC57 drove to see them play back then ;D. So really its more like 10 - still not bad.

D2 had a poll era? Huh.

A little remiscent of  Yale claiming like 20 some titles... I mean sure, they aren't wrong but only a handful of schools played football in 1803 so does it really count ?

Pretty sure no schools played football in 1803...

Thanks for the tip. Hadn't thought of that. However, I'll still do it. When they bring the check, I'll inform them that I'm old. I get mixed up and I forget things. Should get me off the hook.

It was hyperbole for dramatic effect. Actual first season of Yale football was 1873

Multiple outlets are now confirming that Mount Union grad, Alex Grinch, will return to Ohio to be the Co Defensive Coordinator at The OSU! That's a huge jump! D1 is allied to add an additional coach starting January 9th I believe. I know this was mentioned earlier, just confirming.

According to their bio they won Nat'l Championship in 1965, 1968 and 1969 as part of NCAA College Division and it was determined by polling. 1983 was their first by playoff in D2 and in that format they won in 83, 85, 86, 88 and 90. Then in D1 (FCS)they won in 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Cool! Nice digging desert. Guess that gives Mount sole claim to most non-mythical national championships in college football

Random musings as I am hunkered down trying not to freeze my arse off....

No matter what Merle says, the Mount players definitely see JCU as a rival.  All you need to do is read a few of their tweets (funny stuff).

Prediction:  if Mount repeats in 2018, the odds are better than 50/50 that VK will be gone to a bigger stage.

Observation:  if MHB ever decides to get an innovative, full-throttle offensive minded coach on the staff....LOOK OUT!

SS to wife a few minutes ago...can we PLEASE live somewhere warm in the winter months???  Her answer...not at this time.    :(

Just saw on twitter (Mike Popovich) Walsh U's HC just resigned after 1 season.  Good timing with recruiting.  I'm always appreciative of the local D2's being dumpster fires.  Malone has other constraints, but Walsh is just not well run as a football program.

To add on this - only a couple of the local D2s have a complete package with academics and football (maybe other sports as well but IDK). Both Walsh and Malone are good academically speaking but in Malone's case - I often forget they have football (and I know I am not alone in doing that). DrA is correct in that Walsh is not well run. Then you look at NDC (Notre Dame College) and their football is good but academically they are a wreck. Sure they can give scholarships but most of the kids there could not get in at Ashland or Findlay (the only 2 that seem to be balanced) let alone Mount or JCU etc.

In which case, I would nominate the current athletic director for head coach and offensive coordinator, with his old college roommate (who is currently without portfolio) as defensive coordinator.

I like the cut of your jib. Good call on prospective coaches AV (after Vince)! One can only dream. 😯😉
