Random musings as I am hunkered down trying not to freeze my arse off....

No matter what Merle says, the Mount players definitely see JCU as a rival.  All you need to do is read a few of their tweets (funny stuff).

Prediction:  if Mount repeats in 2018, the odds are better than 50/50 that VK will be gone to a bigger stage.

Observation:  if MHB ever decides to get an innovative, full-throttle offensive minded coach on the staff....LOOK OUT!

SS to wife a few minutes ago...can we PLEASE live somewhere warm in the winter months???  Her answer...not at this time.    :(

1. True statement. JCU is seen as the rival during the regular season.
2. Wouldn't be surprised, but I'm not as worried as I used to be. Vince does well maintaining the program standards, but I'm not sure they couldn't get another UMU grad who is doing well with less talent.
3.scary thought, isn't it? I think Coach Pete is holding them back from making a Mount like run. They have the talent, recruiting, facilities....it could be coming.

Just saw on twitter (Mike Popovich) Walsh U's HC just resigned after 1 season.  Good timing with recruiting.  I'm always appreciative of the local D2's being dumpster fires.  Malone has other constraints, but Walsh is just not well run as a football program.

I have some connections to both Walsh and Malone...players and coaches are both frustrated. Walsh players never felt like they were put in a position to succeed. Malone administration should never have had them go D2. To my knowledge, it's been a struggle for Malone to stay afloat. IMO neither Walsh nor Malone could beat UMU right now.

Good for him.  Hope everything works out.

And now I have a reason to follow Walsh, along with Toledo, Iowa State and Washington State.

Mounts JV regularly beats Ashland's JV so I see no reason to think Walsh or Malone would stand a chance.

Wow. Not often do you see a 3rd/4th string d3 player transfer to a d2 school in hopes of more playing time lol

True - but I bet he starts.....and Mr. Poorman starts thinking "hmm, I'm better than he is..."

Absolutely, there's plenty of d2 qbs who couldn't make it at mount. It's a touch choice, potentially win more championships as a backup or start at a crappy d2

Mount would torch Malone and Walsh.  Ashland vs Mount in a varsity game would be fun.  Ashland is good right now (I think they won the GLIAC).  I think Mount still beats them, but it'd be a good game.

Side note: Mount used to play Malone in JV too back in the day (early 2000's).  They made them look like Wilm.  I don't recall Mount playing Walsh at any point.

Speaking of Ashland....

Just saw a tweet from a Teagan McFadden who is transferring from Ashland to Mount.  Short (but stocky) RB that played down in southern Ohio.

I always thought Walsh had the $$, and were growing/improving the facilities to actually be a decent, improving D-II team.  I think when the crash came, it really had an impact on their fundraising, and future growth plans.

As for Malone, everyone knows that Fred Thomas is one of the really good guys in coaching, but I just don't see Malone ever being relevant in D-II, and I agree they made a strategic mistake moving up.  If I remember correctly, they just don't have the financial resources that even Walsh has at this time.

SS to wife...."you want to go out to eat tonight?"   Wife to SS..."you go pick up food and bring it back, it's too darn cold to go out.  And we are NOT watching football all day!"   :(

Speaking of Walsh and Malone coaches...Walsh is now looking for a head coach, previous guy resigned this week. Wonder if Davis knew that. I like Fred Thomas a lot and I've even seen him at 1-2 Mount Union games each year. I think he's in a tough situation with lack of facilities (other than playing at Tom Benson). I bet we won't see Poorman move on until after this semester to see what happens with Fulford.

Also just read that Tadas Tatarunas, QB from Mentor, has 1 D2 offer from Walsh. That would stink for Davis to be put behind another guy again. He has a preferred walk on offer from OSU and FCS offers from Albany and Robert Morris. I heard a rumor during the season that Mount was in contact with him and shocked we even had a chance. Kid would start next year as a freshman IMO!

Robert Morris and Albany are in a limited scholarship conference, so those should probably viewed more like d2 offers. I doubt he'd start at Mount, let alone pass up Poorman on the depth chart.

Won't Dom Davis have to sit out a year due to transferring up a level?

You ain't lying.  5-6, 205 lbs.  Gonna be a crowded backfield next year

he'd be a nice JR option at QB in 2020 with a SR Petro at RB behind him.  He's got D1 measurables, but something seems to be missing.  I saw him take on Massillon twice and he is a good QB, but I just don't see D1.
