I can't pull up the tweet for some reason. Are they conference championship rings that mention the national runner up? I know W&L does rings for conference titles. The football team got theirs not long ago. I don't think they would get 2 rings if they won a national title though I'd have to find someone from the women's tennis team about 15 years ago to check. But I could see adding national runner up to a conference title ring.

its a "national finalist" ring

Huh. I wonder what the policy is on conference titles and if they got 2. It's a great accomplishment to make a Stagg Bowl but I wouldn't want a ring commemorating a loss.

From what I have heard (not officially confirmed) Mount Union does not give out Conference Championship Rings, Only National Championship Rings.  I have also heard that they don't hold a year end banquet unless they win the National Championship.

Why would a national power celebrate/commemorate falling short of their goal?  I had no idea that there was a semifinalist trophy until JCU was parading their's around last season.  I doubt Mount shows their recruits the broom closest filled with runner up trophies.  Maybe UMHB isnt a "purple power" after all

I agree with this 100%.  I support JCU celebrating a semi-final because they have never won a title and haven't been to a semi in years.  But someone with a championship pedigree shouldn't be celebrating anything short of fulfilling the claimed pedigree.   I can't imagine UWW stooping to this level.  Guess there are only 2 real purple powers in D3.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Not only championship pedigree, but literally were the defending champs... crazy.

Also HS coach, who is the other real purple power?

I was going to comment on the runner-up "hardware" but I about spit my coffee out reading the comments from former Purple Raiders - Bazinga!!

I think it's fair to say UMU's expectations are different from 99% of DIII...

And UMU football is different than even the rest of UMU, of course.  I know other UMU sports get conference champ rings.  Baseball just did.  I would bet that hoops would if they won the OAC.  The only other one that probably doesn't is track mainly because that'd be two a year for a lot of kids.

National Championship rings are awarded by and financed through M Club.  One ring per student, per sport in a school year.  M Cub does not award Conference Championship rings.  Unfortunately, M Club cannot fully fund rings for every member of a large team such as football, so some members of the team must help pay for their own rings.  Who pays and how much is determined on a sliding scale developed by the coaching staff.

That wasn't an intended jab at anyone, I thought UWWs purple power status had been considered revoked in the d3fb community (at least temporarily). Though I don't know why I'm justifying my comment,  my hopes to break even on Karma seem long gone lol.

Mount is a purple power.  UMHB is acting like they are not.  St Glenn and his Tommies would love to be included, but nah.  UWW is a year or two away from giving out 2nd place WIAC rings.  Is there somebody else?  maybe Linfield is out searching for a D1 transfer QB

Just gave you a +k. I think you're OK. Have listened to WRMU for lots of years.
Don' fret. I got 3 (-k)s in a period when I didn't even post anything. We're still Mount Union!

Listen guys, I get it, being the runner-up is not what you shoot for. Until the national championship win, UMHB didn't print shirts or anything. They did get conference champion rings for a long time. But seriously, if one team wants to celebrate their accomplishment, which approximately 249 schools would love to do, what does it matter to you guys? I understand from other posters that UMU doesn't do ANYTHING unless they win the national championship: no ring, no shirt, no banquet...nothing. That is fine. We choose to do things differently. We completely understand that UMU is on the top of the heap when it comes to D3 teams. More national championships than anyone else. But look, Y'all started way back in  1893 and won your first natty in 1993. It took 100 years for you to get to a championship and win one. Even if you go to 1924 when Mount won the first basketball title in the OAC, that's still 69 years of being in the OAC before you made the national championship and won it. UMHB was an all girls school, started football in 1998, made their first Stagg in 2004, 6 years, and won their first in 2016, 18 years. That is a LOT sooner than Mount.

All of this to say, there were three players who contributed to UMHB's season that did not play in the Stagg for breaking team rules, but UMU allowed their starting QB to continue to play when he was facing serious charges and an outstanding warrant. A few years back, UMHB didn't start an all-American DT for breaking team rules in the semi-final game against UWW. The biggest difference, as I can see it, is priorities. It seems to me, an outsider who holds the UMU football program in high regard and great esteem, that there looks to be a priority issue. UMHB will not start a kid for breaking team rules, while Mount has other agendas.

To me, the ring discussion is a non issue.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Oh my.  Goals for 2018 in order:
- Wabash in the Stagg Bowl
- If not Wabash, there's basically nothing else I want to see other than this rematch.
