Congrats to the Otters they played very well.....QB looked very good and 2 big and fast WR's.

With that being said I cant understand why Cap never threw the ball downfield.  Pentello has the strongest arm in the conf. and maybe in Div 3 yet they never tested Ott deep.   I understand that is the nature of this offense but Cap has a great corp of WR's and to never throw deep makes no sense to me.  The game plan at Witt went right down the drain and instead of trying to beat a team like a drum Cap played not to lose.  Clearly the fumbles hurt but IMOP Cap played VERY conservative.  That has worked the last couple of years vs them but not this time.

Hope we can get healthy vs Berg and get ready for the Raiders.

Like we need another...

It seems to me that CAP-OTT was another example of how Turnovers can kill a team.  It looks from the stat sheet that Capital pretty much dominated... Otterbein had negative 21 yards rushing!!!

Congrats to the Otters.  This may turn out to be a really strange year in the OAC...

I stand corrected...Based on the number of fumbles & interceptions, it sounds like many of the games were heavily influenced by the ball changing hands.

# of fumbles and interceptions...still too many

BW/ONU 7

Thanks for the reply.  I will try and get the message off this board (if I can find out how to do that - you know us "old guys" have trouble with that :)) and if not, I'll just email you directly.  Take care.

Congrats to the Raiders and LK posting 70+ for the third time in his tenure. 7 TD passes for Jorris. Does anyone feel the score was run up? John Carroll went 6-4 last year. I'm sure all the raider fans were waiting for an offensive explosion, but that measuring stick wasn't too high off the ground. At least in '98 CAP scored 39 but found reason to say we ran it up b/c of Zarlinga's 9 TD's. It was the only time we put 70 on the board

If good teams find ways to win, then great ones blow out every opponent.

FYI, I moved the pick-ems into a separate board under the General Football topic, just to keep them all in one place.

There's a second reason, but I can't go into it here. Just know that it was considered necessary.

Did LK run up the score? Guess it depends which side of the stands you were sitting on.
10 TD's is a lot to score on a team, how long do you keep in your first team? How long do you throw the ball? Does your first team need reps? Have you decided on a quarterback?
At any rate, I think it is customary for the leading team in this situation to at least play it's starters the first series of the second half.
Lk sure knows a blowout when he sees one. was he trying to send a message?
Bottom line....he ran it up. Among the other things I think the fake punt pissed hi off. He usually calls of the dogs once a team surrenders.
But, hey, what do I know!!

Quotemy son considered JCU but they must be really sinking...

I would disagree with that entirely.  This JCU team is much improved from last season (despite Saturday's score).  I don't think there are too many people (if any) who would disagree with me on this one.

As for running up the score on Saturday, the only thing that I can point to is the playaction pass up 63-0.  Other than that, it seemed Mount was determined to get in the end zone no matter who was on the field.  If Mount (specifically Jorris) can maintain this level of play, they'll roll deep into the playoffs...then they might face a challenge or two.

HScoach

My impression was that LK ran it up more than usual.  The scores with Jorris still at QB that took it from 42-0 to 56-o were OK since it was the opening minutes of the 3rd and the starters needed the work and I think it's important to open the 3rd with your starters to keep them focused thru half-time and to see how they approach the beginning of the 3rd.  The strange one for me was Jorris' 7th TD pass in the 3rd that made the score 63-0.  LK usually calls off the dogs in the mid 50's.  Not sure what pissed him off, or what message he wanted to send, that TD was definitely a message to someone.   MESSAGE SENT!

The JCU fans probably think 65 yard TD bomb in the 4th by Mason was rubbing it in, but that was just a 3rd and long play that the QB scrambled and the receiver broke open deep.  Hardly the play that was called, and it's impossible to keep the QB and WR in that situation to not do what they've been taught.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

When a team is on a roll like Mount was Saturday night, it can be one of those "everything right no matter what" games.  The majority of scoring was done earlier in the game, so I would have to say not a MAJOR effort to run up the score.  Mount was just that good.

Some views from the game.  I cannot BELIEVE the officials were so deked by the play fake to blow the whistle.  In a close game, that could have been huge.  JCU's facility is really nice, but I have to say, interesting placement of the scoreboard.   ???  I mean I get that it is there primarily for the homestands, but if you are in the visitor stands and down towards that end, you have to lean out to see the thing.  Lastly, I don't think we have seen Garcon hit his all out, top gear as of yet.  When Jorris threw him the touchdown it looked like the ball was overthrown by 10 yards, and zip, there he was pulling it in.  The DB had to be shocked, because when the ball was thrown, he was five steps in front of Garcon to the ball.

It was an awesome display by the Raiders.

Disregard what Scotty wrote.  No matter what he wrote and what you read, he meant something else entirely.  Just don't waste your time.

I am not belittling the signifigance of turnovers in a football game but I thought BW/ONU's sounded wrong so I checked them.  It appears you are counting fumbles and not fumbles lost in all the games.

ONU/BW: 4
CAP/OTT: 5
MUC/JCU: 7
ETTA/HC: 10

7 and 10 are horrible stat lines but 4/5 TO's in a game is not that unusual.  Being the team that commits 4 of the 5 will cost you though.

Let's see, the last three touchdowns were scored by two soph's and a frosh. That might not be an amazing fact at most schools but it is at  Mount.  LK might  be guilty of trying to get reps for some of the backups with the first string QB but WHY NOT. The game was clearly over. I guess we could have sent in the band kid that runs with the big flag.

Look on the bright side, JCU had an amazing kickoff return stat. ::)

I just wanted to clarify my last post. I'm not accusing LK of anything bad, just wanting opinions.

Reasons why Mount may have ran it up

1. The last 3 games in University Heights were close.
2. hscoach's anmeic spread of 16.5
3. The season opener
4. To send a message
5. Because they can
