Thank god we've got the inside "scoop" letting us know that Mount Union is going to be good.  I was afraid they would "sneak up" on the division "this year".

Gearing up for the season I watched a few replays on YouTube Sunday.  2014 vs. Wesley, 2015 vs. UWW and UST.  Man, that 2015 team was fun.  Lally and Furda just wrecking things for opponents.  And it's always fun to go back to 2012-2014 and watch Burke at work.  Running that read option to perfection, firing BB's to Kennedy, etc.  I'm ready for football.

Haha I did the same exact thing!!!
My favorite was watching the 2015 team. Scott to Namdar deep with Nemeth and Mitchell running around and through people. That defense was always making big plays. Lally and Furda were 2 of my favorites to watch.

That 2015 squad was just fun.  They played so hard all the time.  And every time I watch their old games it reminds me how impressive Scott was moving from WR back to QB and playing the way he did.  It's tough to make a dent in Mount lore as a 1 year starter, but man did he play well in his chance.

Hey, there's a standard of excellence in all areas and I like to know what lies behind the starters. Just like I'm excited for the talent Fuline is bringing in for basketball, the job Malave is doing with the wrestling program and Lucas will have the track team competing for the top spot again!

Of any year this year it actually is important what the backup QB is doing.  You're going in with complete unknowns behind Fulford now.  I wonder if Keeney is opening camp as #2.  I'd assume so.

Interesting Fact:

There are only Two QBs listed on the current Varsity Roster:

Fulford - Jr
Keeney - So
National Champions - 13: 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017

Talking about backup QB's got me thinking about Davis.  I hopped over onto Walsh's website.  Holy crap are they bad.  They didn't have a single guy crack 200 yds receiving for the season last year!  And the 2 QB's that played last year threw a combined 5 TD and 15 INT.  105 yds/gm passing as a team.  Just gross offensive numbers across the board.

Count Dracula....I have two friends with boys on the Walsh football team and they say Dom Davis is  really throwing the ball well in practice. He's in the hunt to start at QB.
Personally, I don't know the coaches don't start a proven winner who performed very well in playoff games on the road, and started for Larry Kehres.

Dr. Acula

The freshman from Mentor is a nice player, but Davis has success at the college level.  Wouldn't surprise me if he starts.

Desertraider

With so many unknowns at QB for Mount this year it would have been nice to have Davis. The season potentially being decided in week 4 with jcu could be a good thing. Get a back-up reps as a just-in-case. Let's face it no one knows how the FL case is going to go and not having a QB that has taken a snap is not my favorite way to defend a title.

I have it on good authority that Wilmington will not win many football games this year. Now you know!  ;)

A couple of notes from looking at Mount Union's roster:
Tyler Rentz is back with 2 years of eligibility. He was 2nd in depth chart 2 seasons ago. John Callahan is back as well land he is a player at LB if healthy. Kennedy Sanders is not listed on roster and he was on the depth chart last season and would've been a contributor for sure. In addition to freshman Caleb Homol, I think Kyle Moore could be good as well at QB. Where did the sophomore class go? There's 26 listed and 9 are transfers in, if I read that right.

I hope this Florida case gets cleared up either way for clarity sake for the direction of the offense. The only reason I'm not overly concerned is that I'm pretty confident that the Oline will be pretty darn good with two proven running backs and Hill, Ruth and Herrington at WR, as well as Moxie returning at TE. I think Micheli was quoted as saying the QB at Mount Union is put in a great place to succeed with weapons all around. Just know who to get it to in each situation... Something like that...

Well, this is a first.  I've done the breakdown of the freshmen class for a number of years and this is the first time I recall Ohio not being the most represented state.  FL takes that honor with 46 players in this class.  Wow.  That's A LOT of recruiting down south.  19 states in all.

46 - FL
39 - OH
16 - MI
5 - NJ, TX
4 - PA
3 - GA, NC, NY
2 - CA, IN, KS, SC, TN
1 - KY, IL, WV, VA, MO

QB - 8
RB - 10
WR - 26
TE - 2
OL - 13
DL - 16
LB - 31
DB - 26
K - 5
LS - 2

These are really interesting numbers. The Florida number both surprises and does not surprise dlip.

With Ohio being such a strong FB state with some excellent HS football it always made sense to dlip that majority of UMU players (and please correct dlip if he is wrong here) came from Ohio. Many of which probably had some interest from some of the lower level D1 Ohio schools. However with increased technology, increased ability to communicate without travel, and practically being a lock for the Stagg Bowl with an appearance on ESPN each year dlip believes the word about the Big Purple Power has reached the land of HS Football coaches and studs down in Florida. The level of football the Raiders bring to the table each year is very impressive and obvious to anyone that knows anything about football. So to dlip it makes sense that a very talented Florida player who may not be getting top notch attention from big time D1 schools who has been exposed to UMU and all it's incredible achievements (on a consistent basis) packs their bags and head to Ohip.

What also speaks volumes to dlip is that many of these talented Florida players may still not even see legitimate PT at Mount. Man what a program!

dlip's beloved Dutchmen have had some studs from Florida over the years and created a small pipeline there under previous coach John Audino.

Interesting conversation with a man close to Mount union football. He is very impressed with the skill players as one would expect. However, he commented the back up QB is. "very good", and a freshman running back has made quite an "impression". When I asked him if this is one of Mount's great teams, he smiled and said they are going to be  "really, really good." He was very pleased the semi-final will be played at Mount Union and that for once, the Championship game will be played in good weather.

I'm picturing this person using double finger quotation marks when he says certain words like "very good" , "impression", and "really, really good"   ;D
