How did the scrimmage go? Any surprises?

Based on a report by Watchdog News published 8/23/1 Mount Union fields most college football players in Ohio.

University of Mount Union ranked No. 1 for student football participation in the state, according to a Watchdog analysis of college sports participation.

The U.S. Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education collects athletics data annually from all institutions with intercollegiate athletics programs that receive funding through federal financial aid programs. Data for 2016 – the latest year available – includes more than 2,000 schools nationwide.

In all, there were 4,762 students playing on 43 college and university football teams in the state in 2016.  This averages to approximately 111 players per team which puts Mount Union well over double the state average. Mount Union reportedly has a policy not to cut football players without having a conduct cause.  I wonder how many other teams in Ohio have a similar no cut approach.

Below are the numbers published for 2016.

If you're in the area or even live here, check out the new "MOUNT UNION" display by the college lakes. You can see it from Union Ave. Awesome! They plan on having lights on it in a couple of weeks. Damn, I love this school! Go Raiders! ☠🏈

It's sort of ironic since the majority of the non football playing student body at mount is pretty much apathetic to what's going on with football until maybe the semi finals.I know when I was a student my fraternity brothers were much more concerned with Ohio state than our own team.

So that number of football players, is what, 25% of Mount's male student body population, give or take? (Not judging, just curious)

Probably between 15-20%

-2,200 students
52% Male
-1,144 Male enrollees
~200 Football Players

-17%

It used to be higher in the 90s. The total school enrollment was closer to 1,250 with similar sized football roster (200).

The roster size is large - no doubt and no secret - but 150 (or more) of them don't stand a chance of stepping onto the field and they know that. It really helps with practices and drills. I knew a ton of kids that were on the team and knew they were never playing. I guess take the 250+ with a grain of salt - a large grain of salt. It isn't like Mount has 250 all world talents. They have 100 kids with a shot of playing over a 4 year period and a 150 man practice squad. If anything I think the large roster may hold Mount back. Working all those kids into practice takes time away from the 2, 3 and 4's getting as many reps.

BTW. Look at Hiram. 105 Football players. Student population of 983. 471 males....22% of student body. The numbers will b similar with MOST D3 schools.

According to the report Mount has 251 not 200. That would be 21.9%

I think they run split practices.
