They do have the same legal right not to hire him. Colluding not to hire him would be illegal. Further, the NFL has a lucrative antitrust exemption, which should put them under a lot more scrutiny were they to do something underhanded like collude to keep him out of the league. It's a hard thing to prove of course, and I don't think he will prove it. But... because the NFL is favored under federal law so they squeeze more money out of their business model than they otherwise would be able to, they should be held to a higher standard in making sure the things they do are aboveboard, like, say, blackballing a player or two.

I agree jk. But proving his case may be easier than some think - http://www.nfl.com/player/brandonweeden/2532970/profile

Brandon Weeden got signed? Again?  :o Not a Colin K fan but...nobody can tell me he is worse than Weeden, or Hoyer, or Gabbert, Matt Barkley, or a host of others. To bad he doesn't get to prove it in Common Sense Court. What Colin doesn't get is he is currently Mike Vick (post jail time). Not saying one equals the other or anything - but he is a cancer to any teams PR dept. Sign him ticket sales fall off, protests kick in, sponsors get up$et. All the lawsuit did was guarantee any team that would have given him a shot - won't.

I had a case once involving JCU players getting drunk and trashing a bar. Smashed the front window. The owner was a great guy and welcomed me in when I visited him. (I have not always received such a warm reception from crime victims). He simply wanted an apology and his front window replaced. He said JCU football players had a terrible reputation among local bar owners.. When I told him my clients fathers offered their apologies, he refused to accept that. He wanted the boys to come themselves and apologize. They did, and when I followed up with him he said they handled it well. The school took no action whatsoever. The local Judge made them complete an alcohol education course. No jail, but he assured them there would be jail if he ever saw them again. He was very stern ,even scary, and bought none of the ,"nice college boys," "first offender" stuff. When we came back 18 months later to have their records sealed he was much more friendly and encouraging. I sure hope no one spit on an officer, or hit a police dog because they are going to do some jail time for that.

The white helmets make their initial appearance at practice today.  If anyone hasn't seen them here's a closer look.

I really dig the white helmets, and a white on white look would be cool but with those purple practice uniforms they really look like linfield.

Just for S & G's How about these stats

17-27   192 yds  2TD,s

18-20   273 yds  3TD's

These are the stats for the two QB's with  a Mount connection.

The first is for Fulford for Mount against Rose Hulman The second is for Jake Reid the ex Mount QB who transfered to Wabash. He put up those nuumbers against Hiram. Not too shabby. Hiram is not the best competition but still good numbers for any QB. Sorry we couldn't keep him.

In all seriousness - anything to the jcu thing? I know it forwarded to Dean of Students but could this have any impact of them playing? I know its a party - but I also know that D3 schools usually hold athletes to a higher standard than their D1 counterparts - and they do have charges and a court date.

Memo to the players: DON'T SKIP YOUR COURT DATE!!! And if you do - DON'T DRIVE ANYWHERE!  ;D

Indeed! Don't skip your court date.

Amazed by the amount of snark (on Twitter, not here) about why we haven't posted something on the front page about this college party/disturbing the peace. Pretty sure reasonable people know there is a difference between that and the major stories that made our front page in 2017.

My initial thought:   must've been a slow night in U Heights for the 5-0

Every night is a slow night in the UH for the Fuzz... Nothing has changed. The worst one's are the neighbors.. John Carroll has been at this campus since the 1920's (we were in Cleveland specifically before then) and yet they act like JCU is the new ones there. I remember an op-ed a woman wrote my senior year complaining "about how loud kids were walking to and from parties, because her bedroom window was 10 ft. from the sidewalk." Of course my initial reaction was that there is not one bedroom window in the suburbs that is 10 ft. away from a sidewalk. She then went on to say that her house "had been egged by College kids in the past". Now please tell me, what college kid with a budget is going to waste their money on eggs to throw at houses?? This coupled with the fact that routinely in the winter we'd see HS kids drive around and throw snowballs at drunk college kids going to and from parties (because pedestrians are an easy target). The worst part of her op-ed was, and I quote "are we a college town, or a town with a college in it? I used to think it was the first". Excuse me ma'am, you live in University Heights and you knew the school was here when you moved in..

Sorry for rambling, there has been and probably always be an uneasy tension between UH and JCU students. We're by no means angels, but come on are we supposed to pretend that these complainers didn't have their fun in college as well?

It's possible to have fun without having 200 people on a small property and destroying neighbors' properties.

Yes, there are plenty of complainers who can't deal with "normal college kid antics" in University Heights.  But the party a week and a half ago was more out of control than most, and the kids scattering when the police showed up caused damage to other properties.

Just because you're in college doesn't mean the law doesn't apply to you anymore.

As far as University Heights being a college town, check out a map.  It has a very high percentage of residents unaffiliated with the college; much more than most "college towns" as it is also an inner ring suburb of Cleveland.  It's pretty crazy to suggest no one should live there other than college students unless they give them free reign to ruin the neighborhood.

Don't forget to add to that 0-0   0yds  0TD's from Dom Davis as Walsh fell 31-0 and got their 78 yards passing from someone else. Ouch.  Not sure Dom improved his situation.

Absolutely agree with you. My point is that you go to most any other school and go to a party there, the same shenanigans occur. Does it make it right or justifiable? No. But let's not pretend that JCU kids are the worst.

I am not so much looking to defend the Moeglin and company for hosting the party, but trying to shed to light the fact that once their house "went viral" as it were for all students they were done. There is no way that they were the ones destroying property (because your neighbors will definitely know who did it) and it's almost always ignorant freshmen (from my experience at JCU).

Should they be punished for "disturbing the peace"? Yes, as long as it is fair, because they were the ultimately the ones hosting the party.

This is why they need to learn that you keep house parties to Jrs. and Srs.

And you are right, it's not a "college town", especially in the traditional definition of the word. However people knew that JCU was there when they moved in, so they shouldn't be surprised when they have to deal with college kids.

I know college kids are dumb and ignorant, I'm not far removed from college. I'm just saying that JCU students are not an outlier to colleges across the US. Again doesn't make it right, but it's not just a JCU problem.

A lot of the neighbors also have a strong connection to JCU, or at least Gesu/Ignatius.  We have connections to all three.

Are people acting like JCU kids are the worst?  I don't know if I've seen that (I sure didn't mean that), but maybe I missed it (I was late to this thread).  My main problem is that the coach didn't do anything to discipline the QB.  I mean, I think any serious consequences with the law are unwarranted, but he probably should have at least been benched for a half or something to show that there are some repercussions for bad decisions.

Sure, some neighbors are too touchy about things.  But most people are reasonable and really only gripe the few times a year when something gets out of control.

Dr. Acula

I think it's all degrees of severity.  Ott cancelled their spring trip for baseball for the entire team a few years ago due to an alcohol/police incident on campus because it was pervasive.  I myself had a police issue in college due to underage drinking at a party.  We were benched a (baseball) game and had other assorted fun punishments from the coaching staff (the one assistant chose as his making us run the stadium bleachers for 30 minutes every morning at 6am for 2 weeks).  I'm sure Finotti will handle it internally.

Sad to hear about coach Ken Wable. I visited with him numerous times in Alliance Hospital and in the nursing home. Talked to him off and on over the years. A really nice guy, a true gentleman and a hell of a coach. Rest in eternal peace Coach Wable. 🏈⛳️✝
