You know it's Mount week when Onward on, John Carroll arrives! Now we're just waiting on Toph! LOL Glad to have another Streak here though! Make sure you bring the noise on Saturday!

JCU's best hope is to score early points and not play from behind. Every year since 2013, we have surrendered an early lead and clawed our way back before ultimately falling short. The one except is 2016, which we all remember.

Come on . . . you know I am more of a basketball guy.   Plus I loved Coach DeCarlo so much and despised Regis Scafe so much (especially the 5-5 and 6-4 campaigns), I was left a basket case for more than a decade until Arth righted the ship.

Ha, I will give you that! I will give you that as well, about Scafe. I know that Arth was going to help turn the program around, but not as quickly as it did! I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that Arth and Zagorski (before he left for Tennessee and now running the offense at EKU) had 3 years of being in charge of recruiting before Scafe left.

Side note on EKU- lot's of Cleveland connections  HC Mark Elder is a CWRU grad as are Asst HC TE/OT Zagrorski and OC Angelo Mirando.  QC coaches Jake Schaeffer and Anthony Ciccone are JCU grads who were on CWRU staff last season.

EKU nearly upset Bowling Green this past Saturday, losing 28-35.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Nice article.  St. Paul has been consistently good for so long now that it's hard to remember a time before they were good.  I'm sure Pugh takes great pride in being a major catalyst in changing the trajectory of a program for years to come.

Nice piece on Dan Pugh. He is going into the M Club this week.

That's a fantastic read and something that I wish my high school baseball players understood. You have a responsibility to more than yourself.... Your family, school, community and future players that look up to you. Don't take that responsibility lightly!

I wasn't going to do it - but I am going to do it. Dan Pugh story. My nephew had never watched a Mount game until I had him over for the Stagg Bowl against Trinity. Game comes on and we're talking. All the sudden they start talking about Dan and have his picture and stats up. My nephew jumps up and yells "God. I can't stand that a$$H@!!". So I said dude is awesome. My nephew, it turns out, played against him in high school. He tells a story of chasing Dan all over the field and never catching him, or getting run over by him (he was a DB). So my nephew says "it wasn't that I couldn't catch him or tackle him that I hated - it was the grin on his face after the play....like he was saying why did you even try?.

Well then, he certainly went to the right college!

Because I am bored and have no life (as previously mentioned), I was checking on the JCbrU kids. Question: what does "PC FOP CONSIDERATION notice sent" mean? I see it on Moeglin and Disbrow. All it says other than that is that A) they showed up (a super good move on their part), B) No warrants (another double plus good for them) and C) FOP ELIGIBILITY set for Sept 26 at 10AM.

I know the one kid tried to use his "get out of jail free card" and the arresting officer handed it back. Is that what the FOP stuff on here is? Because his dad's a cop?

How would they know? When was the last time they mailed anything? Sorry but to this generation a "stamp" has many names "SEND", "SUBMIT", and "POST" come to mind.

Some possible solutions:

*  Do an internet search.

*  Ask a friend.

*  Ask a classmate.

*  Ask a professor.

*  Ask a relative.  (Perhaps someone older than thirty.)

There are probably only forty or fifty other solutions. . . .

Since NCAA football now has a rule where a fair catch on a kickoff inside the 25 is a touchback, if I was coaching a team playing Mount, I would have my guys fair catch every kickoff.

So I quickly scanned the box scores of Mounts 10 regular season games from 2017, in which I counted that Mount kicked off 99 times and 72 of those were returned by the opposing team.  56 out of those 72 returns, which is 78% of the time, the returning team fails to make it past the 25 yard line.  Only 16 times teams were able to return it past the 25 yard line, most of these long returns happen later in the game during the second half when the scrubs are playing.  Only a few times the opponent has made it to even the 30 yard line, with the only notable return was JCU's return for a TD.  Whilst Mount has had quite a few Kick-offs and punts returned for TD's.

Kick off returns resulting field position
7% pinned under the 10 yard line
18% pinned between the 10 and 15
34% pinned between the 16 and 20
19% pinned between the 21 and 25
22% make it past the 25 yard line*

-Statistically to get the best field position I'd say a fair catch makes sense, as the average team is outmatched playing Mount, and returning usually yields a poor starting position, and following the usually quickly stalled drive, gives Mount a usually super short field to run up the score.  You'd think teams would use this rule to their advantage  ;D

 Desertraider.....most courts have a "diversion" program that essentially postpones the case, allows the defendant to do counseling, alcohol education, community service, or all of the above, in exchange for dismissal of the charges. It's a "first offender" procedure. It requires a period of good behavior, sometimes up to a year. If the defendant does everything he supposed to, he can get the charges dismissed. I am pretty sure that is what that means. Instead of pleading guilty, being found guilty and sentenced; he pleads guilty, the case is postponed, and then if he does what he's ordered to do (alcohol education etc), instead of being found guilty and sentenced ,the case id dismissed, at the defendants costs, of course. It a good break for non violent first offenders and done all the time.

Dr. Acula

^^^. This is exactly what happened when I got arrested at Mount for underage drinking.  The judge gave us the option to attend 10 alcohol classes and perform 40 hrs of community service.  If we completed both within 90 days the charges would be dismissed.

This is a great analysis, and I wonder how the numbers look across the board in D3.  I have now watched 4 weekends worth of games (one was a scrimmage), and I would guess over 30 kickoffs.  I haven't seen a single fair catch signal made.  One player took a knee, which apparently isn't the same, since the refs marked the ball where he kneeled down.  My best guess is that every special teams coach and every kick receiver dreams of that 99 yard return for a TD, and the momentum swing it can bring.
