Pat Coleman

Am I losing my mind (again) or have some posts been removed? Looks like some posts by Bluenote and my response have been wiped out. I guess you didn't care for his stuff which makes mine meaningless. Am I right? Thank you sir!

MUC57,
I know Pat answered your question, but I just want to caution you that your propositions are not mutually exclusive!  ;)

he may be a sub 4.4 40 guy

He was a 4 sport athlete in high school, sounded like a decent track athlete too but not state championship qualifier or anything.   I think the only sub 4.4 guy on the raiders is Lou berry.

No way he's a 4.4 guy. That's truly rare. Now, Burkes is much faster than he appears as far as his running style and stride go. Burkes is definitely extremely quick though.

At the 40:30 mark of today's D3 Football Podcast:  Marietta Spartans?
I reckon that is a Pioneer, of sorts, of a different era.

Pat did pick Marietta to win; Rossi picked B-Dub later in the podcast.

 Sorry about that. What does a Pioneer sound like?

Now they push John Carroll to week 3.  And while the defense was great and they tossed in some blitzes, I think it's fair to say that the O line wasn't quite clicking yet, the QB was just getting going, the timing with the recievers wasn't great, and the play calling was well, vanilla-ish.

And arguably the best player on the team - Jared Ruth - didn't play.

Ruth is a difference maker.  I was trying to remember...Mount has obviously had a lot of great WR over the years.  And a lot of times you'd have the senior complimented by the soph who was going to be the next #1 guy.  But I was trying to remember a time where you had two upperclassmen big play WR playing side by side like Hill and Ruth.  The only season I could think of was the Knapp/Sirianni combo back in the early 00's.  Taurice was explosive with Namdar, but he was more of a quick slant guy than a home run threat.

1993 (All Seniors):
Bubonics (WR) - 1,769
Atwood (TE) - 851
M. Siriani (WR) - 684
Gresko (RB) - 638

2003:
Knapp (WR) - 1,467
N. Siriani (WR) - 998

2007:
Garcon (WR) - 955
Davis (WR) - 875

Of those I'd say only Knapp/Sirianni.  Those guys were both nearly 20 yds per catch and TD a game guys.  The other one I thought was a maybe (but I don't know the stats) was what about Knestrick/Gollate?  Knestrick was for sure.  He was one of the best big play WR ever at Mount.  I just don't recall Gollate as well.

I remember those guys quite well.  I actually preferred Gollate as he was more sure handed.  Knestrick would make a circus catch but drop an easy one.  Both were very, very good.

MTU site doesn't list a Roster for 1997 but these were the top receivers that year.  Interestingly, they all had 57 receptions.

Knestrict: 1,258
Gollate: 813
Tyla: 779

What about 98 with Kershner and Marino?

Darin Kershner     93    1423    9 TD
Adam Marino             74    1337    14 TD

Discussion focused on two Senior WR.  Marino had stats in 1999 so I assume he was a Junior in 1998.

this Ernie Burkes kid is explosive. wonder if there's other ways to get him on the field for meaningful minutes.. slot wr, wild cat. just seems like he needs to be on the field a lot more.

He came in as a QB and they moved him to WR his first time in Alliance.  I thought part of the reason he transferred was because he wanted to try to play QB.  Perhaps a couple years of maturity have changed his thinking though.  It would be interesting to see them go 4 wide with Burkes and Herrington in the slots.

The first game I recall seeing Burkes at QB was at Otterbein, and he was wearing a wide receiver #82.  It would appear VK and company started with the wide receiver idea, then decided he would be of more use at QB.  He is indeed explosive and looks like he would be a great option QB.  I wonder though, what happens to Mount's pass game should he have to replace Fulford early in a game?

reality check

Hey guys,

I've been pretty absent this season on the message board but wanted to share.  I'm dealing with some significant happenings in life right now that some on here know about and that's been a challenge but football and specifically coaching have been my respite.  We just finished our regular season out here at Apache Junction High School in AZ and I couldn't be happier with my young men and their effort.  We won last night to finish the regular season 7-3, 5-0 in our region.  Last year we won a region title for the first time since 1983 and last night we sealed our second straight region championship which has never been done in school history.  I know it's not OAC-related but I wanted to make a proof of life appearance and brag about my boys.

I'm sure you know I'm just messin' with ya. Is UWW back? I expect we will be running into you somewhere down the road.  I'll be interested in your opinion on that after it happens. Good luck, stay healthy, and go everybody!  :)

Hello RC!  Keep fighting the good fight and congrats on the season.  Geesh it seems like it wasn't that long ago that you were coaching at a school that really didn't get football & had a not so fun HC.  It's great to see you persistence turn into success for your young men on the field.

Don't know what's going on with you but hope you are doing well. Congrats on Apache Junction's team. Sounds like a great season. Best to ya from here on out. Hope the Raiders and Polar Bears have a good game today. Welcome back! Go OAC!

1998 was his sophomore season making the numbers even more impressive.  Probably LK's best coaching job that year.
