Sorry.  Having free Veteran's Day food at BJs in Columbus (Polaris ... back to Maryland tomorrow). But without researching as I should, isn't Denison the last in-state team to beat Mount Union in a playoff game?
Help me MUC57!

The Raiders defeated Denison in the 1st round in 1985 in Alliance. Without looking it up, I believe the score was 35-3. That was Mount's 1st playoff game and only game against Denison.
I had my free Veteran's Day lunch at Applebee's in Alliance. Good stuff. Go Raiders!

We were only talking playoff games. The 1985 game was the only playoff game against Denison. I guess, in spite of my signature, the old memory still works reasonably well. Working on stats and records for the media guide for lots of years helped.

I remember a tight Wittenberg game in the Gary Smeck years(); good running back for the Tigers, as I recall.
With regard to Denison, it had to be the regular seaon I am remembering.  I was in Okinawa 1986-1989; had to go to the base library on Tuesdays to read the Sunday paper for the Saturday college football scores.

I was a RC-135 Reconnaissance Navigator; a dinosaur by today's standards, but before GPS.  Hence the "Telling pilots where to go..."  They loved me "going over the top" in grid.  I am a "young" 60; I would go back on active duty tomorrow if they let me.  But a weekend with RealityCheck would probably wreck that.

Congrats on making the playoffs. Of course, we knew you would. Looks like a good chance we'll meet again. Damn, I didn't want to play you a second time. At least, not at this point in the playoffs. Some of us wished you would have gone East. You could have won that bracket. Then we could have met in the semi-finals (in Alliance). But, it is what it is!

They did however beat Mt Union in regular season in 1988 and 89, 41-27 and 24-21 respectively. And hold a 19-9-1 series edge.

From Mt Union's site I don't see that they lost to an Ohio team in playoffs ever.

If memory serves me, back in the '80s Dennison was running the Single Wing.  Old fashioned football even then.  Made for some brutal but boring games.

Your memory serves you correctly. I watched them play Mount in Granville and they did run the single wing. No one does that anymore, do they? Don't know what they do now, but I'll find out.
