Wait, what?  By "one-and-done", do you mean Mount would lose in the FIRST round, or in the second round?  I could see maybe, possibly, perhaps second round.

But third round, especially if the opponent is John Carroll?  Could be ugly.

(I've refrained from asking S_S about SCRAPING, as it sounds hideous beyond words, and this is just small college football.)

Agree. One and done meaning only getting to round 2 seems extreme. I'm sure keeney is a good enough passer to at least make the semis, with the amount of qbs showing up at camp every year if we don't have a "decent" passer on our roster I'd be extremely surprised.

This is D3 football.  Many of the players were QBs in high school because that is where your best athletes were.  When I moved to Virginia -- so very different from Ohio and Texas -- the best played both ways.  My friend's brother passed for two TDs for Manassas Park, and made two INTs as a defensive back.  But their team lost because they could not staff two full-time lines.

So yeah, I would love to see another Cecil Shorts appear this year.  But I'm afraid we're a bit late in the season.  If they don't have another decent passer at this point, then I will make them one-and-done.

I mentioned it only because the previous poster did not. It was not just that Cecil could "throw decently." He was on the depth chart as QB/WR.

That said, if Fulford cannot get back by the quarters (likely against JCU), I would consider them 2-and-done. They can scrape out a win against Centre or W&J.

They're not competitive against JCU without a legit QB.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

From this morning's Canton Repository:

VK speaking to the HOF Luncheon Club on Monday.

Kehres called Fulford's status "ongoing."

"He's seeing a doctor today, and I'm waiting for more information," Kehres said. "We have Plan A, we have Plan B and we have Plan C. They're all ready to roll."
12-0 = 13

I totally agree. Mount wins the 1st round, probably wins the second round and does not beat John Carroll. All of this without Fulford.
Of course, if Fulford plays, ...........! Go Raiders!

Shorts, I believe, was an option candidate because of his athleticism, but could throw decently. Burkes is a fine option candidate, but lacks throwing accuracy and zip.
Keeney appears to have zip and better passing skills , but wheels are average. Will be interesting to see what game plan presents.  This is if Fulford is unable to go.
I have no clue as to prognosis, he could be fine come Saturday.

Shorts also had previous QB experience. He played QB for Collinwood HS in Cleveland and was one of the backups for a while. He shifted to WR after Garcon left.
I will never forget that 2009 Wesley-Mount game. Wesley was able to knock Kurt Rocco out of the game. Neal Seaman came in and wasn't quite as effective. We thought we had a chance, then Shorts came in and showed why he would be a future NFL Draft pick.

Onward on, John Carroll

Outlandish . . .Mount has been gathering an embarrassment of riches in the talent department for two decades plus.  I have little doubt as to their ability to be competitive.

That said, I must say that if the current back-up stays in the saddle, that is potentially a good thing for JCU as he is a run-first QB with limited passing abilities.  While it is a good thing, it hardly means Mount will not be competitive.

I agree with Onward On (Great Screen name by the way!). I think you guys are being a little doom and gloom. Will it be potentially difficult to win without Fulford? Yes. But let's remember that a backup coming in during the game is often cold. A backup who has a week to prepare in practice is often much more efficient.

Without Fulford, our chances would increase, but it would still be a competitive game that Mount could win (unless all 21 other starters are out too!) And if John Carroll runs into a team that can pass and keep our offense from scoring, we may not even get to that point

Umm, maybe.  But there's been many a time when a guy comes off the bench mid-game, rallies the troops to victory - and then lays an egg the next game.

Also to consider that when a backup comes in (in a blowout situation), he's playing with the 2nd team, often against the 1st team defense, with a vanilla offensive approach.

Wow!

You John Carroll guys are more optimistic than I am. Hey, JCU is a great team and would probably beat most teams in the playoffs. I didn't want to have to play you guys again, even with a healthy Fulford. Those of us that are die-hard fans all said Fulford was the main guy we didn't want to lose to injury. None of my friends wanted to play JCU a second time. I know we have to play the game but, damn, I'm not looking forward to it. Of course, both teams have to win 2 games before that could happen.
But wait! What if Fulford is OK? Maybe he plays sooner than everyone thought. Oh well, that changes the mood of doom & gloom. So there, Blue Streaks. Still would rather play someone else.
Think I'll pour myself a Bud Light and contemplate my navel or whatever.
And by the way, congrats on beating that team from Berea. Go Everybody!
