My best also to Tom Arth. I have spoken to him numerous times over the years. I found him to be very personable and a lover of the game. I don't really know anything about the Akron program but I hear it needs some major help. Hope Coach Arth can get them going. He certainly helped John Carroll.

The game was good, not great - I have seen 13 better games. Regardless of all the post game chit chat it came down to one thing: Mount didn't finish. Period. Stats are identical (303 total yards for each team), Mount had 4.1 per play - UMHB 5.0 (that .9 advantage is neither a sign of domination nor demise). Mount didn't finish. FGs are ok when you have to settle - but when you settle it normally means you didn't finish somewhere along the way. What hurt Mount more than anything? No sacks. QB can scramble all day but without sacks he isn't rattled. On the game itself - BOTH tams were chippy. So what? Nothing was egregious. It is football, it is emotion and if it is a problem - watch pee wee T-Ball. Everybody cheers for everybody else and you get a juice box at the end.

On the "punch" (as it was previously called) - seriously? Punch? Its a facemask "pop". It wasn't a punch so save the melodrama for Oscars night. It is a reminder "pop" - "look, I'm right here" - call it what you want but it was not a punch. Could it have been flagged? Yes (technically). Should it have been flagged? No. It wasn't malicious, there was no intent to injure, it wasn't a right cross to the head or a cheap shot. Put on your big boy pants and get over the whole Mount is better than that. UMHB had some questionable stuff from #40 and others - its football. If you want to watch ice dancing then turn the channel.

The debate has already begun on "who is number 2". Who cares? I say it every year - no one on that field left the locker room with the cheer of "At the end of this we will at least be #2!". And no one cheered getting the runner up trophy. If you think St Johns should be #2 - great. If you think UWW should be #2 - super. Good for you. Collect your puddin' pop, participation trophy and order your "We're #2 - almost - but not quite" rings right now. Every team in the final 4 had 1 goal - #1. 3 of them failed in that goal and don't care who is second. It is what it is.

And finally - for the 'Mount had an easier bracket' folks. While the #2 debaters can collect their puddin pops and enjoy them during that pointless debate - I have an entirely different place where you can stick your puddin pop. 13 Titles, 18 trips in 20 years - it ain't the bracket so choke on it. Have a great day and a great off-season.

Roll Raiders~Roll!

I totally agree on your game points as Mount had their chances. Any time we did pressure we needed more than 4 guys which means they couldn't help in coverage. The only coaching questions I have were the field goal attempt and why there weren't more 3 stop drop quick routes with the 2 dbs so deep.

On the extra hits in game (nobody called it a punch but you)...I have no problem on the one where White was flagged (punching for the ball), but would never accept my high school athletes going as far as hitting someone across the face (as light as it might have been) or hitting someone in the helmet on the ground after the play where he's not even in the play. That to me shows a lack of composure from the player and even reflects on the program. Those type of things tend to cost you in the biggest moments.... Absolutely no reason for that. I also agree that I saw multiple UMHB players jawing, but it didn't make it any better to me. I want passion and relentless effort between the lines and whistles.... That's all. If you want to call that being soft, then cheers to you, but I want my players to respect other individuals as well as playing hard within the rules.

Looking forward to watching some Purple Raiders wrestling, basketball and track. Next year should be another exciting one. For the coaching staff, go get those new guys that have a drive to continue to win and keep up the good work!

OK.  Well, first off, dismissing that kind of "play" in the way you attempt to do, (with the juice box, t-ball, big boy pants, comments) is a fail.  Regardless of the intent, the actions were selfish and undisciplined.  The facemask "pop" as you described it served no purpose and gained his team nothing.  This was not the only incident involving this same player which could have, and possibly should have, resulted in ejection ultimately costing his team.  I would like to know how the UMU coaching staff will respond to this when they review the video.  I believe I have a pretty good hunch that their take will be nothing like yours.  The player in question is an outstanding player, without question.  A valuable member of a team that has a lot of very good players who play hard and determined football.  However, an unnecessary and selfish punch in the pile cost the team 15 yards.  I've seen officials eject for much less than what he did, and there were several other incidents.  Did any players on the other side take cheap shots?  I couldn't tell you, but if they did, they should have been penalized as well and that's on the officials.  Yes, both these teams are better than that, regardless of your take on it.  Congrats to both teams on a good game and a great season.  Both programs are top-notch and well-coached and I know many are looking forward to 2019!

I did not see the game, however, just to "chime in" here, I assume your are talking "trash talking."  Some people are fine with that and say it is simply "part of the game."  I am not, never have been, never will be.  I agree with you in that I also want players to respect their opponents, yet still be very passionate, aggressive, playing hard, and still have intense enthusiasm, without the stupid language or "jawing" if you will. That may be "old school" to some, but that's just the way it is.  I'm fine with that. ;D

This.  If you find yourself resorting to multiple puddin pop and juice box references to defend a kid's behavior, you know something's wrong.  Great player, acting like a total clown.  For the kid's sake, I hope someone does address it with him.  He's a senior, and out in the real world, that kind of crap (and the mentality behind it) will get you left behind fast.

bleedpurple, hsbsballcoach7 and wesleydad each earned 14 of the possible 20 bonus points; furthermore, hsbsballcoach7 correctly picked Mary Hardin-Baylor to beat the spread and was the final week's top scorer with 19 points.

But sitting atop the standings as he has since the second week of the playoffs is desertcat1, your 2018 OAC Playoff Pick-Em champion!  He didn't take a single week's honors but won with incredible consistency.  Congratulations!

Thank you all for playing this year.  Have a safe and happy holiday and I'll see you again next Fall.

A couple days back... Murderers Row. Good one!

Seems the University of Mary- Hardin Baylor did indeed take that route to the trophy.

Good slugfest that.

Yes, yes, again I say yes! I have made this point in other years. No interest in splitting hairs beneath the championship. The pursuit had one purpose and it is made of walnut and bronze. Several other teams had great seasons. Congrats to them all. But I'm with you on the sidelines of the race to order 2,3,4, and beyond.

I'm not here to worry about opinions on the behaviors, just that there shouldn't be a place for that anywhere, let alone Mount Union. Sad to me that some people are even attempting to condone this. I've coached at a big school for awhile now and no team or organization will be perfect. That's unrealistic, but I wouldn't want my child, players or anyone acting this way during competition.

Trivia type question (hey, I don't want to talk about the game)

Luke Poorman has a ring and a national championship from UMU. He has a national championship and will have a ring from UMHB. Two national championships from two different schools. Question - do we know of any other case like this? Something to talk about while we recover. 🤔

If you're tired of arguing about various aspects of the game, see above. I bet this is a first!
(Probably not even worth thinking about. Just trying to forget the game for a little while)!  ???
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

When were rings given out at Mount Union? I wonder if Luke Poorman was left off the list.
