Doesn't the NCAA require a minimum attendance average to stay D1?  I thought I heard that, because someone was selling blocks of tickets to local businesses to keep up sales to meet the minimum.  So the question is, is the Akron 19,000 ticket sales or butts in the seats?  I drove by an Akron night game last season, only could see the west stands but it appeared not more that a few hundred there.
That being said, I believe that Arth will get people out and hope he wins to keep them out.  They have a beautiful facility,  have not seen locker rooms etc...but the stadium is attractive....and big.

InfoCision holds 30k.  About the only time they're sniffing 2/3 full is maybe for a HS playoff game there if Massillon or the like is playing.  And even then I'm thinking more like 10k not 20k.  I've been to probably a dozen Akron games there and I would be shocked if there were more than 5,000 in the stadium for any of those games.  The sad thing is a few of those games have been against OU and the vast majority of the fans there were in green.  So you have 4,000 fans and 3,000 are OU fans.  I actually felt bad for the Akron players.  Hopefully Arth can spark some interest because Akron football is as apathetic as fan bases come.

Well, we have talked about this many times before.  Eastern Michigan used to be the same way as Akron in this situation (apathetic fans, too close to the "Big House", etc. and 1,000-3,000 fans at times for games. Heck, many times, our MIAA teams had more attendance at the football games than Eastern did.  However, that has changed since CC has been the Head Coach.  So I am one to believe that if Eastern can do it, Akron can do it, especially with an enthusiastic coach as Arth is, similar to CC.  Although, I was still surprised that Bowden could not turn it around better, yet perhaps some of that was due to his being near the end of his coaching career-perhaps not and it was simply for the reasons you mention in the overall "atmosphere" at Akron.  As you say, though, hopefully Arth can change it.

Not football, but some weekend events are tangential...
- Men's Track & Field ... OAC Champs
- Women's Track & Field ... OAC 2nd Place
- Women's Golf ... OAC champs
- Women's Lacrosse ... OAC (regular season) champs

How about some MUC57 report on the ladies' lacrosse.  The Capital game must have been incredible!

It was. I have a short post on the lacrosse board. Unreal. Of course I was there. I even go to their practices. I seem to have become like a mascot. The other sports events turned out pretty well, as you pointed out.

Wednesday May 1  #1 Mount Union will host #4 John Carroll
                            #2 Capital will host #3 Baldwin-Wallace
Saturday May 4.    Above winners play. Should be Capital at Mount Union

Mount is really good. Players to watch are : #5 Ashley Bernardi
                                                               # 10 Sydney Bumbarger
                                                               # 30 Danielle(sp) Rohrmann
Most scoring will come from that group. Sydney scored the game winner against Capital.

Mount also has an outstanding coach in Emily Fisher. BA from Wooster and graduate degree from John Carroll. Really knows the sport and how to prepare the team for a game. Mount is in it's 7th year of lacrosse and she has been the only coach. Over the 7 years and 6 OAC championships (the OAC did not award a championship the first year), players have come and gone but Coach Fisher has been the constant. Coached over 100 wins in 7 years. That speaks for itself.

Yeah, they're good. Number 2 in the region (pretty sure about that). Now, just have to figure out how to beat those Eastern schools. I know they will soon.

I kind of rambled on but I probably know the team better than anyone outside of players and coaches. I was introduced to the team by Coach Fisher as their biggest fan. I probably am!

Good luck on Wednesday to our team. Go Raiders ❗️ 😃

Oops

I discussed lacrosse on the football board. BillyRayJimBob caught me off guard. Mea Culpa!  :-[

It is hard to believe that Jared Ruth will not make an impression on the Lions in their mini camp.  It was posted that he showed as good or better speed than many NFL receivers and blew receivers away on the bench press.  Watching him make amazingly athletic catches during his career, I hope he is at his best in camp. Good luck Jared.

This is obviously great news for Jared.  Beyond that it's great for the program as well.  NFL scouts are going to find the best players.  If a kid is that talented he will get a shot.  But if I'm VK I'm selling recruits on the fact that if you come here and play well and perform like you can at a pro day you will get your shot.  Especially as a WR.

Anything on Louis Berry?  I imagine his size killed his chances..

HScoach

As talented and productive as Berry was, he was short for a D3 corner.  It's too bad he didn't grow 4 inches while in college but I'd be stunned if he got even a sniff at a training camp invite.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

i thought i read somewhere that lou berry only ran a 4.6 at a pro day , i could be wrong and i know he's faster than that but unfortunately the scouts probably don't.

QuoteBerry posted one of the top times in the 40, running it in 4.53 seconds. He also had a 36-inch vertical jump.

Thought those in the Mount Union community might be interested in this story.

A Delaware HS QB who announced on twitter his plans to go to Mount Union next fall has been diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and will undergo surgery next month with plenty of community support.
