When do the Mount players report for practice?  I think they do physicals and equipment then start practice afterward.  Perhaps they have already begun, but have not heard anything.

The Ames Tribune had a great article on Larry Kehres attending Matt Campbell's first preseason practice the other day.

According to the article Larry stood on the sideline with a pen and paper, writing down his thoughts. Larry was there to offer encouragement and watch three of his former players head coach Campbell, offensive coordinator Tom Manning and cornerbacks coach Matt Caponi working with the players as the began their journey of competing for with a Big 12 title.

Quoting Larry in the article "Matt leans on himself. If he ever wants to ask me a question, I'm there, but he seldom has to ask now," Kehres said. "He's his own man. He's rolling. But when you're a Raider, we stick together. If we can do anything to help each other, we're right there."  A link to the article is

OT: I went to Wabash College (Erik Raeburn) and saw Mount play a lot (good friend in HS was Hank Spencer) and now my girlfriend goes to Iowa State and with my job I am around the program a little bit...there are crazy parallels in all of that coaching tree, obviously. It's just cool to hear about the "MU tree" and then actually see glimpses of it where there are coaches from MU.

Yeah, I read this as a workplace joke. All of my coworkers think it is cool that I went to Duke, but they clearly have as much fun as possible in giving me flak during Duke/Carolina week.

Wait, so your wife is a Mount alum, and you went to Duke?

...

My wife is a UMHB alum, and I went to Georgia Tech (though I also received a masters degree from UMHB).  The world seems fixated on pairing us as adversaries.  ;)  I get the same treatment from my co-workers whenever GT plays UGA.  It's all in good fun.

Yes. I am from Alliance (Taurice Scott is among my favorite Raiders for a reason), and she and I initially started talking online, then met up when I was home over a summer. Been married for 9 years tomorrow...

Crap, Thanks for making me remember!

I think almost everyone knew that a Larry Kehres would be QB coach for Mount Union this fall.

I just saw a confirmation that Former Malone head coach Fred Thomas will be a defensive line coach and former Malone offensive coordinator Dustin Miller will be the tight ends coach.

Fred Thomas was the head coach at Alliance High School in 1991 when Vince Kehres played there.  Apparently Vince stayed in touch with Thomas over the years.

Mount Union has always had great coaching and the tradition continues.

I saw a report earlier today that UMU has nine captains on this year's team with Mitch O'Hara is the only non-senior in the group

Kehres picked up Coach Thomas when Malone U dropped football.  He is an excellent coach and person. I think the Mount staff and the assignments are stronger than ever and can be argued the best coaching staff in DIII, maybe as good as anyone regardless of division, but I am biased.
Kappas is a fantastic D coordinator and the duo of LK and Dartt will, IMO, be amazing.
Football cannot start soon enough for me..

I think Paul Gulling has done a great job developing a lot of great receivers over the years and gets only a little public credit.

Vince and Lindsay Kehres celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary a couple of days ago. Congratulations to them and their three boys.

It is a good thing you asked because I saw that Geoff Dratt posted on this Twitter page yesterday "7 days..."    above a picture from a locker room banner that read GRIND OUT GOOD DAYS  TODAY MAKES THE DIFFERENCE  THIS REP WINS THE GAME

If you aren't already for UMU Football this should get you going.
