Secondary is not good.  Weak link for 2019?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

WILMA!!!!

WILMA is up 18 in 3rd quarter before ONU scores 3 touchdowns in a row to take the lead only to have WILMA score winning touchdown with 28 seconds left in the game. Heck of a win for WILMA with neither team playing much defense during the game.

Mount Union wins for the 25th time in a row against BW.  This win was the university's 800th win in football.

It is early in the season, I know, but I can't figure out the Polar Bears.
Not a scholar of the game like so many of you, but certainly an ardent fan.
Due to MUC's bye week last Saturday, I watched ONU at Muskingum.  Once they decided to play, they had "game," it appeared.  Perhaps is was that the longer bus ride home after a loss to Musky, at 0-2, would be worse than the ride home from Denison at 0-1.
Today, I cannot figure them out against Wilmington.  I was passively following the game while watching the Purple Raiders, but was wondering what was going on with them, theoretically playing a worse ("doormat") team, like Wilmington.
At the same time, I am happy to see Wilmington turn the corner and be competitive, if that is what today's result might indicate.
Anyone see the game and have an opinion/insight?
Always huge respect for "The Pride of Ada" program going back to Jamal Robertson ... and of course, my chicken wing-eating good buddy, reality check.  (Hey ... reality check and I met, and ate wings/drank beer together, once, in New Haven, so that solidifies us as D3 Football "Buds" forever, right?)

Dr. Acula

ONU's issue is that it appears their defense is not good.  Musky doesn't have the guys to take advantage of that.  Wilm actually has some players at the skill positions including Barrett at a QB.  He carved them up for 400 yds.

They're sitting on 2 losses and the only gimme win they have is Cap and maybe Ott if you're feeling generous.  That's not a good sign for 2019.

For as frustrated as Mount fans may be, UMHB just snuck by Bellhaven 23-13! I watched most of the 4th quarter and they definitely have room to grow too. It seems that UWW and St John's had trouble earlier this year. It'll be interesting to watch around the nation this year. Lots of closer than expected games!

You are correct. 100%. I know they had a couple of picks - but the endzone one was well under thrown and Britts was thrown to a place where only Britt could have caught it. No clue who BW was throwing to on that one. When Mount comes up against a good QB, and BW does not have one, the secondary will be a problem. #24 can't cover, and can't cover deep. He was beaten 3 times that I remember - 1 was the deep PI call. I think it was Greer and he had 3 steps on him. If Greer doesn't have to slow down for the ball - game would have been interesting early.

A few other things that as Mount fans we haven't had to deal with in a LONG time. Lack of consistency. The D looks like world beaters on 1 drive, and Hiram on the next. I saw Roesch come off line, and go straight over top of the tackle (absolute pancake) on 2 straight plays - and then disappear for the next 3 series. Same with Trey Williams. Looks like Jason Hall on 1 series and the invisible man for the next 2 or 3. BW got the ball at Mounts 15 (?) on the bad snap (more on that #@!% later) and the D comes out and just destroys it. TFL of 9 or 10 on 1st play, then 2 incompletions with good pressure - BW misses FG and a sigh of relief. But later BW starts hitting with short passes - soft zone stuff in the 10-15 yard range, and a few runs, add in a Mount penalty and BW is moving the ball. Game was never in question - but BW had 1 legit player on that offense: Greer. The RB was slow to the hole, slow to the outside - not that big - but managed 72 yards on the day. I put that BW team on par with Denison last year and just wasn't impressed with Mounts handling of it. 45-7 is a great win - but for those that saw it WR were open on every play, secondary looked slow and confused, and the pressure wasn't consistent.

The special teams - oy. 2 games, 2 snaps over the head of the punter. Has that EVER happened to Mount? Then you add Ernie Burkes brain farts - not going out to hold the extra point so they take a delay penalty and the muffed punt (what the crap was he thinking?) before half. They looked sloppy. I don't recall ever hearing the Coaches yell "where's the holder?" before. Burkes is sitting on the bench, talking, helmet off - and then does the half arsed run onto the field for about 20 yards and starts walking.

The offense - this post is already too long - so to sum up: Fulford, Hill, Petro, et al were still on the field mid way through 4th quarter...against Denison.

Good wrap up.  This team is not ready for prime time.
12-0 = 13

Now adding Linfield #10 and Whitworth #11 both losing late last night. Win and move on. Learn from your mistakes and keep improving. I'm not too worried about the defense next week (mostly bc I think JCUs offense is struggling), but the offense needs to score vs a good JCU defense. I think 22 points would be Mounts magic number, if they 22 I'm pretty sure they win. Get better every day!

MUC57

Kind of a strange day yesterday. The top four teams, UMU, UMHB, UWW, and SJU did anything but dazzle. Of course, we know, you only need 1 point more than the other team to win. But, still! These are teams that usually have their way with opponents. Maybe still early in the season. Maybe some key players injured. Maybe still trying to establish a starting roster.
Could be a really exciting year.
So, what's my point? I don't know. Just thinking, or posting, out loud! Go Everybody!  :o

Seems to me that every year someone on here is concerned with the Secondary.  First year back at DC for Coach Kappas (He has been the OC for the past couple of years).  They changed Schemes some and are only two games in.

I have confidence they will settle in and make another long playoff run.

Geez, complaining about a 45-10 win against a team that VK said had a chance to go 9-1 this season.

They sky is not falling, today is another day, the coaching staff will have them ready for the long run.

Enjoy the ride!

My friends, JCUStreaks70 and bluestreak66

We took care of Baldwin-Wallace yesterday. You're next. This coming Saturday, "The Machine" comes to University Heights. You will see purple everywhere, even in your nightmares. You will know the feeling of defeat. You will face a juggernaught like you have not seen before. You will be but an ash on the fire of fallen opponents. And all of this in "Who's house? Streaks house.".
Now, having said all that, good luck to the Streaks on Saturday. I know neither one of you will be there, but I'll make sure you are informed of the outcome.  8-)  ::)  ;D

I'll take a 45-10 win over a solid BWU team any day.  UMHB only beat Bellhaven 23-13.  Bellhaven has been 2-8 the past three years.

Mount score was 45-7, not 45-10.
I like the win over BW as well. Merely stating the top teams are not exactly "rolling" over the opposition - as they often do! Go Raiders!  ;D
