Pat and gang, thanks for the new BB setup. It looks great. Finally motivated me to register.

Looking forward to a great year of fooball in the OAC and around D3.

Does anyone know the date and time for Mount's annual purple / white scrimmage and the WJ scrimagge?
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

In regards to small recruiting classes, whether you bring in 100 or 45 players, the number of freshmen that make an immediate impact are usually only a handful.  By the time the class gets to be seniors there is most likely only going to be about 20 - 30, in some cases more and some less.  However, I do not really worry about how many kids come to camp, it is the number of "quality kids" that matters.  I know when I was a freshman, we had 75 kids make it to the end of camp, when we graduated, there were only 11.

Thank you Pios! It pretty much just sums up how big of a moron Reality Check is about the size of the recruiting class. So I bring nothing to the board? You're a pretty big man to talk trash over a message board. Be an adult! It is just someone's opinion. What makes you think that you bring something to the table? It's just discussion, and if someone stirs the pot up, so be it. It makes things much more interesting. Have a great day!

Well done, Pat & crew.

Looking forward to another great season of OAC football and the requisite trash talking and reliving of glory days gone by.   Thanks to this site, the days of DIII being a nearly non-entity in the media are over.

Lay off the meds.  I wasn't even referring to you when I made that comment about not bringing much to the board.  So instead of flipping your lid, re-read the post I made, then scroll up and read who I was directing it to (DII-DIII Fan).  It should all make sense if you read what I said.

Roid rage is a bitch...

And if in pios case, you bring in 75 and 11 make it to the end, then wouldn't having 100+ and having 20-25 make it to the end be a better scenario?  What staff, team, fan base would not want to finish with more guys after four years if they could.  Bringing in large numbers to start is a good way to ensure your odds of having a large class of senior four years from now.

First time ever post. My son is a freshman at CAP this year. Word at CAP is that though small in numbers, the recruiting class this year is agile, mobile, and hostile.

JK

mvinton,

agile, mobile, and hostile???  Sounds like something we say in my line of work...  ;D (if you don't know what I am talking about, maybe some of the other regulars will fill you in)

In all seriousness, it is great to have another Cap poster in here.  Right now it is pretty much Me, e-lee, and tdubs.  Tyson is only a part timer.  I guess he has a life or something...

mvinton

Thanks JK. I am so glad that my son is at CAP. Coachs are quality men who run a great program. We visited just about all schools in OAC, but my son knew the second he visited CAP that he wanted to play and educate there.

Hey reality check -

Why are you trying to knock someone else with your comments? I didn't say that MUC and ONU would be the class of the OAC in 2005 - I said they were by the end of last year. We all know this is a new year.

You said in your comments about my post ... "As far as this guy talking about ONU/MUC, I don't take much from his comments about classes/transfers.  As best I can tell, ONU has no transfers at all ..."

I'm not trying to embarass anyone or turn around and criticize you, but the transfer of young men to ONU like Nick Withrow (OT) from DI Ohio University, Steve Gunter (DB) from DI Toledo and Evan Devoe (RB) from St. Francis (NAIA Finals in 2004) is more details about what I was referring to.

Again, no desire to get into a catfight - and we all know that simply based on where these young men were originally recruited has little bearing on whether they can play the game.

I was just trying to prompt discussion about the best DIII football conference in the USA. If you want to continue an informed dialogue - let's do so!!

with all due respect, when did the trend start to bring in large numbers of recruits int D3 programs...im naive in D3 and respect all the schools but just puzzled about the "building of programs"...is this fueled by the administrations, admission offices, allumni...again, im not being negative just a little puzzled...

Have to agree that overall Mt & ONU were the top two as Mt ended up #1 and ONU #2 for the year.  But can argue who was playing the best at the end or at least who was second best as Mount's 4-0 at the end is hard to beat.

Looking back, Ott, JC, Mtta & ONU were all 3-1 in their final games.  Ott shelled JC 31-0, but lost to Wilm. ONU beat Cap by 3 & Mtta by 7. JC knocked off BW & Cap while Mtta pounded BW & Wilm.

Sounds like parity to me...let the games begin.

With all due respect, someone comes in here every year and overblows the idea of transfer athletes (especially in reference to MUC).  It jsut gets a little old regarding the "transfer card".   With regards to the three players you mentioned from ONU, I had no way of knowing where they came from because just their high schools/hometowns were listed on the website and usually transfers have that info as well next to their names.

It looks like ONU has everything going in the right direction based on the class they brought in and what they already had returning.  When it comes down to it, ONU and MUC are IMO the frontrunners again this year but the OAC will definitely be full of competition again for 2005.  Etta, JCU, BW, CAP are all very very good teams (in no particular order).  When it all plays out this season, we could have a WIAC-like season where we all just beat each other up.  I just hope that we don't have a disappointment like MUSKY from last year.  They looked like they were ready to make a move to the top tier two seasons back and sputtered last year.

For the sake of argument, does anyone think that the preseason polls for the OAC are off at all?

My top to bottom would be: MUC, ONU, CAP, JCU, BW, ETTA, OTT, WILM, MUSK, BERG with a minimal amount of seperation between JCU, BW and ETTA.
