Hi Doc.

Will chat more during the week. Stay well!  ;D
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

If anyone is looking for a podcast to listen to check out the Teacher Coach episode with Mike Fuline.  The hosts are TK Griffith (Hoban boys HC) and Scott Callaghan (legendary Wadsworth girls HC).  It was interesting hearing Fuline's story (and they covered it all).  Especially interesting was hearing Fuline talk about his relationship with LK, getting the job at Mount and recruiting.  I was already a huge fan, but it made me like Fuline even more.

I found it at tkgriffith.com

I just saw an email today from Mount Union saying that they are planning on opening up this fall for school on campus. That's a good place to start for now.

Plus they just announced this afternoon at the daily briefing that all high school sports can begin in-person training on May 26th.  Includes, but not limited to weight training, agility training and other conditioning.  I would think this would apply to Ohio colleges too?  Who knows though maybe not if colleges have kids coming from out of state.

Listened to this the other night. It was a great listen for any Mount Union or Stark/Summit County area sports fans.

That is goid. But they also  have to follow strict guidelines including physical distancong, equipment wipedowns in. between each person's use, etc. I assume the coaches and administrators have worked out or are in the process of working out those stipulations for easy implementation of the programs.

This is what I found so far from Twitter only on guys saying they will attend Mount Union next year. Remember, there is no such thing as committing to Mount Union because there is no binding financial agreement. Guys can still go somewhere else if they want. This is just a list to keep us junkies going until summer camp. So far I really like the mixture of local and out of state guys.

I've listened to a couple more and enjoyed them.  I listened to the one with Jackie Windon (former Hoban girls and CWRU women's HC) yesterday while I was working.  I thought she had really good insight on how does someone who was as competitive as a player as she was approach coaching kids who don't have the same mentality.  Kids who don't go out for the HS team because they want to play college basketball.  I think that's something nearly all coaches can relate to.

IMO, John Carroll just received great news with Tadas Tatarunas (Mentor grad) saying that he will be transferring to JCU with 3 years of eligibility left. This was a guy that I wanted at Mount Union, but decided to attend Walsh University. That program is rough right now...I thought they were turning a corner, but they just can't find success. Anyway, I think once he remembers what a winning culture does, he'll be fighting for the starting spot.

I posted this on a couple of other boards, but wanted to share it here. This is not a good sign...University of Michigan's president has announced that IF they decide on not having on-campus students this fall, there will be NO football. No time frame was given fie the final decision, however, they'll have to decide this by early July, IMO. Decision will, of course, be based on what the situation is with the coronavirus at that time and according to state and federal and local guidelines/mandates.

If there is no football at U of Michigan, I believe that will be the death bell ring for MIAA, DII GLIAC, and NAIA football in Michigan.

A book recommendation on this Memorial Day:  "Ghost Soldiers" by Hampton Sides.  The story in the book is even more astonishing than the story in the movie "The Great Raid", which is based on the same WWII event.

Great planning, great execution, great courage, and great . . . luck.

Mount Union has announced plans to return to in-person instruction in the fall.  How dormitories will be handled I have no idea.  As far as I know, no decision has been made by the OAC regarding fall sports.

I wonder how that works with the conference.  If the conference is playing football and Michigan decides not to what happens?  Do they just forfeit all of their games?  Do they lose their proportionate cut of the BTN money for football?  What a mess.

It also meshes nicely with the article in the Athletic last week about the OHSAA and their dependence on football ticket sales.  If anyone subscribes to the Athletic I would recommend it.  An interesting look at the much smaller scale version of the dilemma the power 5 college conferences are facing.

It's all very messy. The pressure to play football at the h.s. through D1 level is going to be intense. And that, in and of itself, is a problem. It shows just how much money is riding on "amateurs" and makes a mockery of the whole concept. Personally I think you will see almost every, if not every, FBS level school play. They simply can't afford not to. Whether they get a whole sleight of games or just some partial will be interesting to see.

The only real question in my mind is how they handle spectators. For the P5, the money mostly comes from TV, though I'm not underselling their gameday revenue, it's still important. But for the G5, they need gameday revenue. So it is going to be very interesting. Personally, I don't go to D1 games. Sitting with 60-100K people, getting in and out of stadiums, the traffic, the drunken idiots... no. But this fall, you will have to be a special kind of crazy to do it. I have no doubt people will, and I have no doubt schools will be desperate enough to allow it.

I live in AL and many of my office coworkers are Tide season ticket holders. My boss has already sent them emails asking they don't come to the office (provided we've reopened the office) if they go to a football game. They will be asked to work from home as we all have been since March.
