I'm just a civilian but it seems a tad unfair to pile on the Capital coach in a total no-win situation.  Keep the clock running and get the eff out of there before someone gets hurt.

If you knew Mount Union would go all-out with its first-stringers for sixty minutes what would the betting line be?  100 points?  150 points?  200 points?

Would 223-0 be out of reach?

If I remember correctly, they attempted to pass more on the first possessions of the game and the QB was hit/sacked pretty much every time.  Maybe that was the coach's concern.  He didn't want to put his QB back there as a tackling dummy on 3rd and long.  But why not try to pass on 1st or 2nd down?  The run clearly wasn't working.  Mount has played some bad OAC teams over the years.  I just don't recall ever seeing anything like what we saw on Saturday.

Beaudrie ran for over 1000 yds as a Sr in HS.  Whatever Plunk is, and he's absurdly talented, he isn't that level of athlete.  Honestly Beaudrie reminded me of freshman Burke.  It's Plunk's huddle but his successor IMO made his debut today.  That kid looked legit.

Beaudrie looked like a future star, but doesnt Plunk have two more years of eligibility after this?  I sure hope that Beaudrie sticks around for his one (two?) years after Plunk's three straight titles, or some school is going to get one hell of a QB transfer

Plunk is listed as a Junior.  I would guess he still has two more years of eligibility because of the NCAA Covid ruling.

Beaudrie certainly looked good, but I'm starting to buy into the current offense at the varsity level.  Having a QB like Plunk seems to suit that offense.  They have exceptional receivers and running backs, and tight ends and Plunks delivery time and accuracy is seem to be unmatched.  Getting the ball into Ruby's, Petro's, parkers, hands fast and letting them make plays is almost impossible to stop with bringing up safties or adding in backers.  Once you do that, the back half of the field opens up.  I'm anxious to see what a more experienced defense can do with this Mount Offense.  I want to see how they guard both backs out of the backfield on every play and 3 wide receivers, all while still being in position to stop the run game.

It's starting to remind me of when Dartt was calling the plays with Logan Nemeth and BJ Mitchell in the backfield at the same time.  They were really tough to defend... can't forget Taurice Scott as well, but that was my favorite offense to watch.  Like you said,  it brings the safeties up into the box and then when they have to pause an extra half second,  Ruby, Manley, Harvey or Gullard are behind the secondary.  I just like that Plunk can throw the ball over the middle as well to open things up.  That's something I felt like Fulford didn't do enough.

it certainly looks like Dartt is going for the rope-a-dope method at times.  Keep the game film pretty vanilla until December

Heidelberg making Mount fight for it if they want it today. Putting up points and got a pick to halt a promising drive.

Again, Mount Union's defense is showing that teams do them a favor when they run the ball.

Oh, don't get me confused. The QB best equipped to get the ball to the obnoxiously talented skill players is and should be the starter. I am only considering the extra dimension Beaudrie offers as a runner because those cheap yards turn into cheap first downs and keep up offensive pressure.

I also mentioned that if it just a matter of keeping Plunk as clean and healthy as possible until the playoffs, I am perfectly happy with that. Others have said to keep the offense as vanilla as possible, and that works, too.

Mount up 35-14 at half. Some pushing and shoving as they head to the locker rooms.  Raider coaches discussing the situation with the refs.  They didn't like the response. 2nd half should be fun.

These Heidelberg announcers really don't like Mount and don't watch enough of their other games  ;D. They had to hype up Baldwin Wallace playing them close not knowing that BW always plays Mount Union tougher than any Raider likes to see. That's always a game that Mount Union has to grind out, but always manages to do.

Their prediction that Mount Union will come back to the OAC pack in 4 years because all the offical Kehreses are gone (although Dartt is an in-law) is bold.

Other game* notes:
Plunk forced two balls that he shouldn't have (getting a bit impatient with the dink-and-dunk game?). Credit the Student Princes for picking them off. Otherwise, did Heidelberg ever really stop Mount? because I didn't see it.

Defense settled in after the first. Good to see. Still want to see more pressure packages, although if "vanilla" is the going theme... fine, I guess, but I don't think they registered a sack today (and correct me if I am wrong). Edit to add: they got 1. Lots of pressures, but only 1 sack.

People who know what they're talking about would know better than me but:  Is this the most high-quality coaches the OAC has had since . . . since when?

Randolph-Macon is playing this school tonight.  (At least I think it's this school.)  Never heard of it but very interesting.

First became aware of The Apprentice School when assigned to Langley AFB (Hampton-Newport News area 1999-2002, ... same timeframe when local Christopher Newport University started D3 football).  Apprentice had a big RB (Sinque Holmes  https://gobuilders.com/sports/fball/2009-10/releases/100109-all90football) from York High School, where my kids attended, while there.  His little brother, who played with my Son, went to play RB for Ferrum, if I recall.
Anyway, Pat has had a blurb or two from time to time about them ... Not D3, but pretty much plays D3 schools from that Virginia area.
They were a fixture in the Oyster Bowl for about 10 years until it went back to featuring D1 schools (because Old Dominion picked up football, I think.)
Pretty much a job in the (local) ship building industry upon graduation as it would appear.  Not bad.  Almost like a maritime academy with a twist?
