Well I finally made it to a game. The brunch was, as always, excellent. Granted it was sparsely attended but it was good. Took a walk around campus and it looks great.  Will be back down next sunday for a softball clinic for my daughter.  The game was good. Moved from the covered side to the sunny side and that was very nice. Sat by some Muskingham fans (I think they were related to #8 Unger). Not much really learned but we did agree that the jawing and celebratory crap on Mounts sideline...and the unsportsmanlike penalty may have contributed to the gas pedal getting stuck to the floor. The fish punter made a nice tackle on the Mount sideline but....dude you were down 6 or 7 TDs at that point. What exactly are you celebrating? Same goes for #0 and #11. Wrong sideline to late hit, etc.

The fish coach was in over his head but he kept mixing it up. They ran 60 plays and threw the ball a bit. No. It didnt change the outcome. No it didnt make a difference. But they tried and that is all you can ask. It was not a herculean effort, nor will it go down in lore as the day the mighty 22 stood strong against impending doom. But they tried. And the last time I checked - they are supposed to do that. So stick it up your @$$ Ed. Doctor Raider out.

It's getting to be that time where we can think playoffs with the OAC clinched.  If BW beats JCU (rivalry game), are they in? The top seeds have to be NCC, UMHB, UWW and Mount  Union.  I can't wait to see the matchups that this post season creates.  St John's,  Wheaton, Linfield,  Hardin Simmons, UW LaCrosse and Johns Hopkins are all tough in my mind.

I'm not entirely sure how your takedown of some Muskingum players for lack of class squares with your closing note to me.  Hmmm.

If St. John's finishes undefeated, wouldn't they earn the #1 seed over UMHB based on advancing further in the 2019 playoffs?

Their performance from last year wouldn't factor in until wins over regional ranked opponents and SOS are consider IIRC

Per FCGrizzliesGrad on the north region fan poll, BW looks like they have a better case for an at large bid than Wheaton if they win out.

If SJU finishes unbeaten, they should be a #1 seed over UMHB based on the Cru's mickey mouse schedule.  The SOS will be night and day

You're right, JCU did almost upset Heidelberg last week, could be a trap game for the yellow jackets 🤣🤣

I'm sorry I can never resist getting in a JCU jab. In all seriousness this years Cuyahoga gold bowl should be a really good game, and the playoff  spoiler implications definitely add some motivation for the streaks

that they are regionally ranked.  Going to be a fight for #1 seeds this year, Mount needs all the help that they can get

I got some information on the reason so many Mount Union starters missed the ONU game. It was a combination of some players needing to rest to fully recover from nagging injuries, some being injured, and some been held out due to being quarantined. There were no disciplinary problems or players being ,"sent a message."
My source is solid.

I hadn't heard this suggested. Was it suggested on this board or somewhere else?

This leads me to ask the whole board a follow-up question. When Mount Union looks at a "rivalry" game, whom do we all think the players or the fans are referring to? Do different eras matter? Is it simply the last team to beat Mount? Is it a matter of story? Is there anyone the Raiders look at and think, "I don't care if them winning would help us. I hope they lose."?

Asking because it seems like every question leads to a different answer. My wife has always made me look at Ohio Northern with scorn since not only did they beat Mount during her time there, but she was in the band and remembers when the Polar Bear receiver scored, took a drumstick, and beat on a band member's drum. For someone who tends not to care about sports much, she was incensed to hear that ONU played Mount Union close last week.

Me? I think "rival" should go to the team that has risen up to play Mount Union the closest over a respectable period of time rather than just 1-offs. In-conference, that would be John Carroll and a half-nod to Baldwin Wallace (who hasn't won but usually plays well enough to make it interesting for a while). More broadly, I look at the other residents of the penthouse (UMHB, UWW, NCC) as well-and-worthy rivals.
