RJ Bowers?  Freudian slip there?  A closet GCC fan?
GCC - no way. I guess that happens when you don't pay attention while posting. Mea culpa.

Not that I enjoy this debate, as it may be the most chatter we had on here in a while, but why is there no talk about BW & JC??  Also, does Otterbein have enough to pull an upset at home vs. Ohio Northern??

Reality,

Saw your guy Ringer play for MSU this past weekend....looks pretty explosive.  The Buckeyes missed out on him.

Ringer's the third CJ grad to play for MSU after getting the shaft from OSU.  I just hope he doesn't ruin the Buckeyes season like a couple of the other former CJ players that went up to MSU did.  That said, I hope he stays healthy and gets a shot at the next level.

10             936      7.0     18        93.6      2005     Couldn't get 1000 in 10 games?

3                416      8.3      6         138.7    2006     Nice to see he is coming out of his shell.

I know how good Kmic is.  I was just being difficult.  I do hope you realize though that RJ wasn't the starter for the entire season.  He came off the bench in all ten games and did what he did.  I know Kmic didn't start til late but the he did START.  Meadows managed his numbers on almost a hundred less carries.  I hope these two show up for the ONU/MUC game.

No one is talking about JCU and BW because noone cares what the (at best) 4th and 5th place teams do against each other in the OAC.  To answer your second question, no.

On the Jorris-Pentello smackdown:

Seventies,
I normally agree with you, my friend, but on this you are wrong.  Sure, the ring and championships are what you play for and surely should be a part of how someone is judged, but that alone shouldn't make you the "best."  You have interjected that comment several times into the discussion, and I think it is largely irrelevant.  For God's sake, Trent Dilfer is a Super Bowl winning QB.  Does that mean he should be discussed when arguing great NFL QB's of the last 10 years?  Hell no.  Why?  Because he's now a backup to a second year QB from a mid-major college on the worst team in the NFL over the last few years.

Well said JK.  Karma for you!

How do you rate a QB unless it involves his stats and his teams success?

I think this is where this discussion is focused. And if that is the case how can you not have Jorris as the top QB? His stats are better than Rocky, his record overall is better than Rocky, his head to head is better than Rocky and his team has been better than Rocky's. With the exception of last years playoff game Pentello has not done well against the Raiders. How does the success of the team act as a negative to the QB's personal performance or "The Mount Factor" It seems to have some type of negative to Jorris's stature in the league? He still has to go out and execute the plays no matter who is on the field. I even hear the knock "he misses wide open receivers" or "Garcon has to wait for the ball!" .......

Hmmm, so you're saying since Rod Adamson won a title handing the ball to Chuck Moore in 2001 and then again in 2002 handing it to Dan Pugh that Adamson is a better college QB than Tom Arth?  Must be true since Adamson's team went 3-0 versus Arth's team, right?   Now factor in that Adamson went 25-0 as a starter, and he must be the greatest QB of all time right?

Uh, no.  It's not that simple.  And that's what makes football such a great sport.  It's the ultimate team sport where strength in one area can make up for a potential weakness in another area.  A great O-line can make average RB's look like studs.  A great defense can make up for a less than average offense and still win a title (ala OSU).

I think the overly MUC faithful need to keep one very important point in mind in this discussion.  I'm not saying Jorris isn't a very good QB.  Nor am I saying that I'm not happy to have him at Mount.  All I'm saying is that not every player at Mount is the best in the nation at their respective position just because he plays for Kehres and they won the title last year.  And as hard as it may be to believe, there might be someone better just a few miles away at a fellow OAC school.

If healthy and years of eligibility were equal, who would you rather have if you could choose?
At DE in '06?  Trusnik or Stickley?  TRUSNIK
At QB in '06?  Pentello or Jorris?  PENTELLO
At LB from 2005?  Sickmeier or Gibbons?  SICKMEIER
At WR from 2005?  Garcon or Howes?  GARCON
At safety from 2005?  Hausler or Whitfield?  HAUSLER

Only at one of the above positions would I put the MUC guy as the clear #1 in the OAC, but that doesn't mean the MUC team can't be the best team.

No problem, thats why we call this a DISCUSSION board, not an agreement board. I guess it's the teacher in me that strives to poke holes in people's logic. Right or wrong, Pentello just isn't my model of a great quarterback. I like 'em big, smart and standing tall in the pocket running the plays that were sent in. That being said I have to admit that I never much cared for Bruney or Burghardt, although when they broke off long touchdown runs I was still screaming like the average obnoxious Mount  fan. (Wait the average Mount fan was clapping politely ;D)

So hows the little one JK?
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

Seventies,

Polite applause for such a diplomatic post ::)

I expect ONU to take care of Otterbein unless they are looking ahead to their return trip to Alliance on Oct 7th.

Let me digress to a more important topic. Will they cafeteria at Mount be open before the game Saturday as it is before day games?

raiderguy

No just during his time.

01
Adamson QB rating #3 183.4
Arth QB rating #21 146.0

02
Adamson QB rating #2 183.4
Arth QB rating #21 146.0

He did manage to do more than hand off I guess.

But as it has been stated earlier stats don't mean anything so......

IMHO Adamson was the better QB Mount or not.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Seventies,

He's doing great.  If any of you Mounties ever run into my Mom or Dad around Alliance, I am sure they can show you a picture (or a hundred).  They are both nuts about him.  I have never seen the two of them reduced to blathering idiots, except for when they are around him.

THe cafeteria at Mount will be open, but you will not recognize the place.....an amazing remodel of the entire facility....
looks like a Vegas buffet...

raiderguy

It does look terrific and they added a real decorative entrance way on the bak of the building coming from the stadium.

They also took care of LK's pet peave....hide the garbage dumpsters out back.

The knock everyone seems to have against Pentello is the same that people have against Peyton Manning.  To some extent, I would agree with it.  In what seems like 9 years with Capital, how many times has Rocky gone to the playoffs?  What's his record against Mount Union...etc, etc, etc.  Tom Arth was one of the most physically gifted QB's to play in the OAC, but everyone remembers 0-5.

The other thing I've read a lot of is the "supporting cast" argument.  I think that Capital has had some of the best WR corps is the conference over the past few years.  Mount's may be better (especially with Garcon) but I don't think the difference is that great.  The ground game has been a different story.

Also, do you think Jorris would ever lose to Otterbein?

All that being said...if this were fantasy D3, I'd take Pentello.   ;D
