I talked to a D3 HC last spring at a recruiting fair. He said that those taking advantage of the extra year(s) don't have to be full time students. They can take one class and still play. Helps those at schools with high costs.

Congrats to the  4 Mount seniors being selected as Pre-season All Americans! Well done!

Looking forward to seeing great games from them this fall. :) :)

Taking a look ahead to week 1 it looks like the game of the week will definitely be JCU @ W&J.  Over in the NCAC Witt @ Cortland will be interesting (and starts at noon).  And for anyone who is really desperate Wilm opens on Thursday evening at 7pm two weeks from today.  Looking forward to firing up the live streams and watching some football soon.

The OAC coaches poll is out:

1.  Mount 81 (9)
2.  BW 71 (1)
3.  Berg 65
4.  JCU 59
5.  Etta 44
6.  ONU 42
7.  Musky 36
8.  Wilm 20
T9. Cap 16
T9. Ott 16

It still baffles me how we can have two schools in a major metro area and neither is remotely good.  And it's not like there is some world beater program in Columbus from the NCAC drawing the best D3 kids that want to stay local.

Dr. Acula,

I remember the days when Capital was pretty competitive when Rocky P. was there. They had a good run for awhile and Otterbein used
to be a 5 or 6 in the OAC. There is only one major reason their programs are down, no support from the Administration to build the programs. ::)

Am I reading the press release about this right that Mount Union can't vote for itself #1 so we can assume they voted BW?

Lack of support is certainly the case at Cap and has been for years now.  It's sad, but it's an institutional choice.  Ott is the one I don't get.  They do support athletics.  They're good at numerous sports.  Football has just struggled mightily lately.  Based on the preseason poll their peers seem to think they're probably headed to their 5th straight season of 2 or fewer wins.  That seems odd to me given all the boxes they check.

This dynamic always fascinates me.  The spectrum of the haves and have nots in terms of support for athletics in the OAC.  I view it in tiers and this is just my uneducated opinion as a fan.

Tier 1:  BW, JCU, Mount, ONU
Tier 2:  Etta, Ott
Tier 3:  Berg, Musky
Tier 4:  Wilm, Cap

Cap is a choice whereas I'd say Wilm is more of a financial constraint.

It's not just any major metro area either, I'd imagine tOSU enthusiasm for CFB has to have some impact on the regions high school football programs

I'd argue that it's not just the OSU beast in the same metro area that kills these programs.  Both Capital and Ott have had multiple-season runs at being a national competitor.  Otterbein in '08 reached #12 and #7 in '09, Capital was easily a top 5 team in the country during Rocky's 2nd and 3rd Senior seasons.  The Columbus area schools just haven't been able to build a program and sustain sucess, Capital is for sure institution based, but Ott is the great OAC question mark

I ran into LK and also Coach Dartt.....Mount and WJU are have a joint practice today. Coach Dartt said they would do ,"situational things" . I asked if the QBs and receivers would be in action and he said, "Oh yes." He said at about 11:00 am on the practice field it would get underway. You should probably bring a chair.

Does LK have an official position/title (like, say, QB Coach) or is he doing the unofficial Yoda thing instead?
