Although I'm as upset with the NCAA as anybody here for sitting on this for two years and then penalizing the innocent, I still wonder why ONU goes through the added drama of scheduling a press conference instead of just issuing a press release? Is it to give Espn and Fox News time to get there? They'd be lucky if the Ada Review sends a stringer across the tracks to find out what the big fuss is. It's sort of like sending out invitations to your wedding in the Yukon. Maybe I should send them a card with a nice new 20 dollar bill inside.
Same as it ever was...same as it ever was...same as it ever was...

polarbearman's post makes no sense to me. I believe the NCAA could ban the ONU from postseason, but that doesn't mean they will. Especially since the investigation took two years. I believe the NCAA will recognize that the university dealt with the matter in a sufficient manner. ONU hasn't been to the playoffs since 2000. Why would they wait until NOW to ban them from the postseason which is hard enough to make, if they would have been eligible in '03 and '04?

I see the problem.  It's the Ada Herald and they don't have to cross the tracks.  The office is right on next to Dicke Hall on the edge of campus.

The ONU website has an article on the upcoming NCAA announcement and the press conference.

that does stink for the kids on the ONU team this year. But forget them. If the Football program cheated, then they should be punished. If the punishment is a ban, than deal with it. I would bet that half the stuff that went on under that coach's watch was not reported so this is justice.

All those kids decided to go to that school because of the success of a cheating football team. Forgive me if I dont cry.

I like the new coach at ONU and I am glad that they are cleaning up the program. This just might be another step in the process.

I feel worse for the kids in the OAC who didnt get in the playoffs when they deserved it in the early and mid 90's because the selection committee didnt want two teams from one conference.

FoxNews just said Hurricane Rita is up to 150mph...that is up 20 mph today...

For those who don't check the front page, here's the news on ONU's penalty.

Quoteit is a sad day, that the potential of this football team will be slashed within a penalty for an occurrence that took place two years ago, with a majority of players who have graduated, and a coach who has been gone for 3 years.

So...you're saying...they shouldn't be punished for rules violations...because it happened 2 years ago?  While it may be unfair to the players, even you have to admit that's a pretty weak justification.

See y'all next year

I think ONU would have made some serious noise this year.

For those with a twisted sense of humor, wouldn't it be ironic if this was the year ONU finally beat Mount, went 10-0 and was banned from the playoffs??? ;D

I fully understand that SOMEONE needs punished for the wrong doing of Kaz, but is sucks that this is the only way the NCAA can do it.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

ONU can still make noise this year.  They still play Mount and the rest of the OAC, and according to some, have a legit shot at ending Mount's win streak in the OAC and regular season.  I think if that were to be the case, this team would be remembered for that as much as making the playoffs.  Let's keep this in mind, the infractions and penalties mean nothing if ONU doesn't have a legitimate argument come playoff time.  It also seems there were more infractions than just the coaches at practice, a player played last year who was ineligible, and nobody knows who that player was.  It could have been anyone on that team.  I wouldn't write off ONU just because they can't play in the playoffs, these guys still have pride to play for or they can do as their supporters seem to be doing and just quit since they aren't allowed to compete in the postseason.  There are teams and players out there everywhere that have never sniffed the playoffs and play all 10 games hard, so to just quit or give up (as some have eluded to) because you can't compete in the playoffs is ludacris.

fanfave

Obviously the wrong people are being punished.  That's the NCAA for ya!  Hopefully the appeal goes in ONU's favor.  I'm sure Dean paul will have them ready to play every week, but I think a bit of the edge might be taken away at this point.

seventies raider...... Just because ONU wants to be professional and hold a press conference about this situation, you gotta start hating on ONU. Well you know what?? You can keep your $20, and save it for a box of tissues for when Northern travels to alliance in about a month. If something even close to the proportion of this was taking place with Mount, the world be in shambles. Just because your precious raiders aren't at the center of attention for a day, you have to cause a riot. ONU is currently appealing the process, and hoping to have the playoff ban lifted until the appealing process is complete which will be in several months. Like Coach Paul said..AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE....we're only focused on moving forward and looking ahead...these guys are winners..and we're still going to work just as hard. GO BEARS!
