Quote from: D3fanboy on July 28, 2024, 05:58:20 PMMount picks up a very local transfer.  RB Kayden Davis transfers from Youngstown State to Mount

Big time get, now if his brother commits to play with him.....

That's a nice win.  6'1" 205 lb FCS RB isn't a bad get at all.  Did K'Vaughn commit anywhere yet?  Saw some D2 offers but no commitment.

I have not seen anything about a commitment.  Those Alliance HS to Mount tuition deals might be tough to beat.  I wish the kid nothing but the best, but being a 6-4 WR with your brother in the backfield seems like a pretty good deal.

He just announced it yesterday via twitter: https://x.com/kaydendavis25/status/1817664006376550586?t=NMeuAKRBZaZRJSFJN-xA3w&s=19

He's a good running back who breaks tackles, runs well and can catch the ball. He has good awareness as well. Glad to have him on the team and hope he can be the thunder when needed.

Sorry for being confusing.  We were talking about his younger brother K'Vaughn who is a stud WR that just graduated from AHS.  I didn't see where he had committed yet so we were doing a little wishful thinking!

Got it! K'Vaughn is certainly a different type of receiver Mount hasn't had with height, strength and hands like he does. I will say as someone mentioned earlier, WR is one position I'm not sure we have to fret over with the Purple Raiders. It's just a matter of who steps up and adapting the play calling up those guys strengths.

Could he remind you of a former, big, strong WR who went on to have a great NFL career. I think his initials were PG? ;D  ;D

there will never be another PG at the D3 level.  He was different

I didn't want to make this comparison, but this is exactly what I had in mind for him.... call him PG "lite". I was in college with Pierre and he was one of the hardest working athletes I've seen in person. He was dedicated to becoming the best every day. You can see that in his college highlights because he would block his butt off, no matter who was across from him. Many people forget that he was also on the 4x100 National Champion relay team.

Pierre Garcon best Receiver in Mount history or maybe D3 as well!  :)

Thank you.  So Mount Union has to schedule two OOC games for 2025 and 2026?

Mount should try to schedule a few MIAA or WIAC teams for 2025-26 or E8 teams?

I can't imagine Mount going over the 500ish mile radius for OOC games.  Having the PAC open back up is fantastic (is Grove City a one year thing), Mount could have a fairly strong schedule with two top half PAC/MIAA/HCAC/NCAC teams and not rack up a crazy travel expense

Raider 68

I would like to see Mount play Wittenberg in NCAC. Both Ohio schools with rich history. The issue is that most schools do not want to play the Raiders, but now with two open non-conference games maybe the options with be improved?

Mount traveled as far as Oshkosh and that seems like a reasonable outer limit -- I know when I interviewed Larry Kehres prior to the 2010 season, he made it sound like he didn't realize it was as far away as it was, like someone at UWO had told him it was just beyond Milwaukee. It's actually 90 minutes.

I was on the phone and not in the room, so I am not sure how much was sincere and how much was joking.

One would think that in this day and age of small college financial health, super long road trips are not very fruitful.  Especially with so many teams making the playoffs.  Why travel so far?  Unless you can't fill out a schedule or you are basically an independent, it makes zero sense financially to travel around

Mount Union has Grove City in 2025. My guess is they are trying to find a home-and-home arrangement for 2025-26, then 2026-27, etc. I would love to see a series with Witt.
I also have no problem with playing JCU.

I think there's an argument to be made for the long drive or even the occasional flight if you feel like you're a program that might play in the quarters/semifinals/Stagg. You don't want your players to be so out of water that it throws them when you get that deep in the playoffs.

one underperforming senior class stuck in school for 5-6 years does not move Mount Union into the class of programs that "think they might play in the quarters/semis/Stagg".   I am as down on Dartt as anybody, but Mount Union is still Mount Union.  Hopefully the D3 darlings of the COVID era where nobody graduates have recruited extremely well, because we are getting closer and closer to typical D3 rosters rather than 23-24 year old seniors

You might play on the road, though. Running the numbers under NPI suggests Mount Union won't be grandfathered a No. 1 seed the way it was in the past.

And my answer was not meant to apply solely to Mount Union. Your question didn't seem to solely apply to Mount Union either.
