Marietta still unranked, a win next week over BW, you would think cause them to break into the top 25.

Only if they join the WIAC that week

I'm wondering what the Pios have to do to get ranked?!
No matter how this season plays out, got to give them so much credit. Who ever thought 10 years ago we'd be talking about if Marietta should be ranked or not?

The voters know who the two games are at the end of the season. But I bet if Marietta beats BW by a lot more than JCU did that it will move the needle for a few folks. Maybe enough to make a change, but also there will probably be other movement based on WashU-Wheaton and Johns Hopkins-Ursinus this upcoming week.

Regardless of rankings, I am eagerly anticipating the Mount/Marietta game. I think it'll be a good test for MUC all while putting this year's #2 OAC team in the spotlight.

But yea, I wish they were ranked too.

Marietta could just as easily be the 4th place team in the OAC. They've had a good year, but still need to play BW, JCU, and Mount. Their best win is probably Muskingum.

I think its a case of they've played an easier schedule, but they've been easily handling everyone they've played which is impressive under any circumstance

Quote from: D3fanboy on October 19, 2024, 10:23:07 PMtoday was the blueprint for 2024 Mount Union football.  Run the damn ball behind all of college football's most experienced OL and have a few explosives in the passing game.  (Echeverry on the outside seems to be...something) Bottle up the opponent's run game and let Rossy and Kaleb feast on passing downs.  Basically a shut-out for the 1st team D (Berg with the rare -6 yard scoring drive after the botched snap).  The big man rumbling on the fake punt was fun, but that's a few successful fake punt runs against the Raiders in the past year.  All in all, probably Mount's best, most consistent all around game so far this year.

Keep the foot down the next two weeks and let's have an "OAC title game" in Alliance against Marietta (who deserve to be ranked, btw)

I only watched the first half, but this was my thought as well.  I thought they looked sharp on both sides of the ball on Saturday.  I liked the play with all 3 RBs in the formation and Thomas slipping out of the backfield and down the sideline for that big 70 yd TD catch.  I didn't recall seeing all 3 on the field together before that, but I may have missed it in another game.  Interesting wrinkle and executed perfectly.

Also, Rossy seems to be turning it up the last couple weeks.  Not that he wasn't good before that, but he is wreaking havoc out there.  When the D line gets going it's fun to watch them work.  It seems like Harris could turn into a stud on the interior DL.

Are the Mount games the only games not available to watch?  I didnt watch this week and I can't find it on OAC.tv

There was a play early in the Otterbein disaster, where they ran a triple option look out of the 3 back set.  Beaudrie pitched it while downfield a couple yards and the play hit for a pretty decent gain (Williams?) that nearly went for a score

Captainred81

From the stats it does seem that they really played well.  A lot TFLs and Sacks.  46 rushing attempts with 6.9 ypc.  Only 12 passes.

That is a recipe for success.

Also, I would like to think that Marietta should be ranked, but they have a lot of obstacles to overcome and beating 6 unranked teams is not gonna do it.  I'm not sure beating BW will do it either.  They really need to be competitive with Mount like JCU was, and they will need to beat JCU.  IMO

I do think if Etta finishes 9-1, I think that have a very strong shot at the postseason.  If JCU beats Etta, I think both get left home.

On that note, I think that Bethel, UWW, Wheaton, Trinity-TX, UMHB, are all going to be watching the playoffs this year.  As I understand it, SOS means very little this year and record will rule the day.  Teams like Coe could finish 9-1 with one loss to Wartburg.  Or they could beat Wartburg and potential know them out.  Or Whitworth could be Linfield and give them 2 losses and know them out.  However it shakes out, it's gonna be crazy.

everything said is true.  But if it was JCU as the "other" unbeaten OAC school with Marietta's schedule, the Blue Streaks would easily be ranked in the top 20.  JCU has a more familiar name to the D3 "experts" that vote.  There are a few teams in the top 25 with a "best win" that is on the same level as Muskie, or they have a fantastic loss, or three

What is Hopkins signature win?  3-3 Ithaca?

What is Linfield's signature win? 3-3 Lewis and Clark?

Surely, Wheaton has a big time win?  oh 3-3 Augustana is it

Lacrosse has that big win over 3-4 RPI but, damn, that loss to a D2 team was impressive

you can go up the entire poll pretty much

Endicott? no big wins

Whitworth? beating Gustavus Adolphus is a big time W?

Marietta beating Muskie (4-2 with a W over Mt St Joe's) is at least on par with the vast majority of the above.  It's hard to have a "good loss" while being undefeated.

D3fanboy

with ONU averaging a robust 6.4 yards per passing attempt, I think that we are going to see another round of dink and dunk.  Will Ely make an adjustment?  1 INT through 6 games is very un-Mount-like.  Might be tough to get to the QB with the quick passing game, but there could be a few shots to snag a pick 6...or two

Absolutely agree that preconceived strength plays into how teams are ranked. Case in point (hopefully this isn't wading into a minefield lol), but I wonder why UWW is ahead of UMHB. Both have two loses (one out of the division and one in the division), and UMHB won the head to head. Granted, UWW has a couple of very impressive D3 wins, but nothing should be more impressive to voters than the fact that UMHB's most impressive win is over UWW themselves. You can't help but think the discrepancy is rooted in the fact that UWW was preseason #3 and UMHB was on the outside of the top 25
