Fine - I will give you Otterbein. However, I counter that: IT WAS OTTERBEIN! Mounts stout, bend but dont break D made them look like world beaters. I have a hard time remaining confident when, while true they did not yield a point to the mighty Cardinals, they managed to give almost 300 yards and got pushed around between the 20s.

Plenty of bend and a lot of breaking. And while JCU took advantage of Curtis and Cramer had issues and Klump was a non-factor - can we truly say the replacements are an upgrade? They were manhandled by Marietta (who was destroyed by JCU and didnt fare well in their bowl game), manhandled by Otterbein, and pushed around by the Muskies.
I get looking on the upside on the changes since their last meeting - but lets not ignore that it hasnt changed much.
I LOATHE JCU. I despise them with every fiber of my being - going all the way back to debate club and Model UN when I was an undergrad at Hiram. However, I dont feel good (at all) about the next Raider v. Streak matchup. Thank god - my wine club shipped me a case of wine for the holidays. I have a feeling I may need it. Roll Raiders (please dear God) ~ Roll!

Those changes are very much of an upgrade in personnel.  Liebler looks like a future AA, Cramer is more of a rotational run stuffer and pretty much any LB would have been an upgrade.

I am not saying that this Mount defense is one of the top units in school history, but I think, once again, consistency is their main issue.  They are not dynamic enough to have lapses in coverage or lack the effort to tackle well.  The big-time players have to show up as well, Rossy needs to get after the JCU QB.  Way too much of him dropping back into coverage the first JCU game

The defense actually held Marietta to their lowest point total of the season (except for a meaningless bowl game).  Marietta came into the Mount game with everything to play for and came away with 26 points under their season average (and 14 less than JCU gave up).

Had Beaudrie not gone down to end the half and Deshields literally spiking the ball over and over for the 3rd quarter, that game would have likely looked a lot more like the JCU-Marietta game (but with less points given up to 'Etta).

I don't know, Beaudrie and co weren't exactly putting up big numbers in the first half. It was 14-14 at the end of the second quarter.

To be completely honest, I almost feel like JCU should be favored in this matchup. In the last few weeks they've looked more competent than Mount, especially against a common opponent. That week 2 win was already an extremely close game, and it looks like JCU has improved more than Mount based on the games since then.

EDIT: Looked up Logan Hansen's Ratings and JCU is in fact rated higher, but still expected to lose due to HF advantage I guess

I have a feeling that Mount wouldn't have basically wasted a quarter offensively in the 3rd (and that 1 yard punt) with QB1 in the game. The fact that Mount only gave up one score during that disaster of a quarter is fairly impressive.  I will also add that 'Etta's second TD on 4th and goal would definitely not have stood if there was replay review.

I know that the Muskie game was absolutely disgusting defensively, but I think some of the vitriol towards the defense is based off of that showing.  If the effort/motivation/intensity/energy against JCU is the same as it was against Muskie and Otterbein, then we have much, much, much bigger program problems.

I'm sure JCU is a better team than in week 3, most playoff caliber teams are.  But some of this JCU "improvement" could be attributed to playing the garbage portion of the OAC and a playoff team that would fit in the bottom half of the conference.

We'll see what the value of the first round bye and multiple weeks to prepare for JCU is for Mount.  Dartt scares the hell out of me, but Mount should beat JCU once again.

I just bought my tickets!

Looking forward to a great game.... hopefully more pressure is put on JCU than the first game. This game is going to go the way of the offense and defensive lines and they better be ready! Go Ders!

Kickoff is at noon. 12:02 p.m., technically, I believe, for ESPN+ streaming.

I thought all post season games kick off at noon, local.  ESPN+ broadcast of the JCU game was excellent, with past Blue Streak coach providing color commentary.  It was well done. Go to web site for TIX.  I, too, believe that JCU will be favored in some polls.  This is the first time in a long time that I haven't looked at the brackets to see who we play next....Just in case, do higher seeds get home games as the games progress?  For the Raiders and visitors who wish to hit the pre game buffet, it IS OPEN 10-12noon.  A great spread for 8 bucks.

Onward on, John Carroll

Well, we have beat ya twice and tied you once during our time together in the OAC, and we have given you many excellent regular season tests that resulted in losses, Our playoff games have not been very memorable.

Raiders big.

I don't think it will be "Raiders big".  But there is no real excuse for losing to a conference "rival" with two weeks to prepare, unless you get outcoached, outplayed, outhit and play with less energy.  So yes, JCU being a pick'em makes perfect sense.

speaking of tickets...charging for student tickets?  what are we doing?  the few that will be around should be applauded and paid for.  and God willing the Raiders win, the school should try to figure out how to bring in as many students as possible for the next round.  the football culture at Mount sure has changed
