HOLY POSTING BATMAN!

I just got home and found I have to go back ten pages to catch up!!!

More later.

Way to go RAIDERS and OAC for the activity.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Reality - I stated that there was not a DB who could cover Garcon one-on-one and still believe that. Gunter vs. Garcon would have been a great match-up and it was too bad Gunter got hurt. It always makes a better game when both teams are at full strength. But Garcon has the jets to fly by anyone.

I'm aware of what you said.  I still stand by what I said.  I think Gunter could have shut down Garcon as well as anyone in the land.  He's a heck of a player.  He got hurt though and we'll never know now because of that injury.  He was stride for stride with Garcon on the long ball they threw and he broke up the play when he got hurt so from what little he showed, he did as good a job as anyone could do.

The bottom line is that unless ONU gets in as an at-large and draw Mount, we'll never know and Garcon took advantage of his size and speed against the other DB's.

Cap/JCU:  Unfortunately I didn't listen to this one.  Looks like I overestimated Capital.  As for the "if Mount wins on the road this close" argument, look at the Mount AT JCU score from last year.  Based on what a few folks posted (and voted) here in the last week The Great Rocky Pentello should've won this game by himself.  Look at it this way, Cap apologists:  No matter where they play the Mount/JCU game this year, do you think there is any possible way that Mount is going to need a late comeback to win it?  I'm a JCU alum and fan, but I'm also a realist.  Sorry Crusader fans, but you're still pretenders to the purple crown.

RC-
That critique of the food is vital information!  Based on last week I wouldn't even bother going to the brunch.  Grab a Hood burger and some pitchers if you're headed to the Mount game.

Also, I wish they the Cap/Northern battle for second place in a different week.  I can't miss Kent State's homecoming game, but I'd love to see how both teams rebound after Saturday.

ExD3-
What?  As far as I know the playing field is level...fill me in if you know something else.

I vote this the saddest comment of the year...   :D

Kent State is not bad.  They are 3-0 in the MAC.  Went to their Akron game a few weeks back.  Great environment.

By the way, the Capital-ONU game will be tape delayed on Sports Time Ohio at 9 pm that night I think.

12.  Left the stadium thinking that ONU is going to get drilled by Capital next week as Cap's defense is every bit as good as Mount's.  Then I see how Cap struggled at JCU and began wondering what to think.  Still thinking Cap is 3+ TD's better than ONU unless Capital turnovers even the playing field.

hscoach, have you seen Cap play this year??  From the 1st five games this season, I have not been impressed with their defense.  Three reasons come to mind: 1) They do not get better every week, like a dominant team should.  2.) Too many injuries.  3.) Do not make good adjustments.

A quick recap from the JCU/Cap game, as it is getting past my bedtime: Cap comes out & scores on a 42 & 48 yd td pass on their first 2 series.  After this, everything was shut down for Cap's Offense.  JCU did a great job at taking away Cap's run game & double teaming Alexander; however, Cap did a horrible job converting with too many dropped passes & not making the adjustments needed to JCU's adjustments.  On the other side of the ball, JCU's QB (Kirbus) did a great job on converting plays when needed (either with his feet or arm).  He did not look stellar, but got the job done.  In addition, JCU's RB (Divis) had 106 yds on 29 carries.  JCU also had the ball 34 minutes to Cap's 26.  Kudo's to Coach Scafe & his staff for his game plan on keeping Cap's Offense off the field.  However, congrats still goes to Cap for picking up their first win at JCU since 1978!!

FYI: if it was not for Pentello on the last drive, the Crusaders would of had an even longer bus ride home, as I am sure it was long enough as it was.  As I was sitting in the stands watching the game, I never got nervous, even after Rocky's INT (which I think was a heck of a play by Palmisano to pick off the pass, then make the run to get to the endzone...WOW!!).  Probably after watching him the past 3 seasons, I knew we would be alright if we got the ball back with enought time.  I think he showed why he IS the best QB in the OAC last night, IMHO!!

Now, I am hoping this is the wake up call Cap needed to realize how much better they need to get and how much better they need to prepare, b/c whoever wins the ONU/Cap game, it won't be by 16.5 points...sorry hscoach, I still think ONU's defense is really good, and MUC's offense is that much better.  I just don't Meadows runs rapid over our Defense!!

Just curious why the passing stats were so soft for Mount.

Good Defense?

Poor execution?

Didn't need it?

Combination of all of the above?

Other?

No need to pass heavily when you get the ball handed to you on the ONU 15 yard line most possessions.

Here's my opinion in order of impact:
1.  Good defense
2.  Poor excution
3.  Didn't need it

The ONU secondary played well and the pressure in the 1st half was above average, but Jorris was just off.  Especially in the first half.  Which is why Micheli got so many snaps while the game was still in doubt.  Overall, Jorris did the most important thing right and that's not turn the ball over.  With ONU's limited offense, MUC just needed to be careful with the ball.  Then adding ONU's turnover problems to the mix, and MUC got some really easy scoring chances.

This might sound like a total cop-out, but IMHO, it started as good defense the first 10 minutes, then the rest of the 1st half was poor execution and the entire 2nd half was a case of "don't need to".
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Regarding Gunter vs. Garcon...

I saw a great matchup and wish Gunter could have played the whole game..I did notice that Gunter lined up opposite Garcon on at least one play, so don't know if he was assigned Pierre, or just did a good job when he had him...

For those that think Garcon is unable to be covered, I think you also have to take into consideraton the QB's time to throw....
Jorris and Micheli can drink a cup of coffee back there usually, and this allows Garcon time (and he doeesn't need much) to get free...

Before he was injured, on the quick reads Gunter did seem to have good coverage on Garcon...

Is the JV game still on tonight vs Robert Morris?

Re: Micheli....I like to watch him over Jorris....his athletic ability appears to be better and he offers another weapon as far as being a running threat...

Take a look at the JV qb...Danny Harris....He is no slouch either....throws the ball very well....

I think Micheli would start at most DIII (in essence he is a half-starter at MUC)
and Harris could be starting many places as well.....nice problem to have for LK

THe O-line was incredible against ONU...never did I think we could make Trusnik a non-factor, but his brother (?) had a monster game...great linebacker

IS Garcon always on punt return as a rusher?  I haven't noticed it before...

I agree with HS coach that this defensive scheme is fun to watch, I just cannot believe the speed on that side of the ball....The DT's are running down running backs...
I don't think anyone would be successful trying to sweep or stretch....too fast...

A friend who watched the game said he felt CAP was fortunate to escape with a win, Saturday...Anyone else see the game who would agree with that?

Garcon was a rusher on the punt return team during the Heidelberg game also.

Ok, we need to start a grassroots campaign to get Mount vs. SJU in 2008.  That would be an awesome home/home series.  Talk about opening day hype for that one.  Imagine the amount of back and forth with the Johnnie faithful.   ;D

Kudos to the Mount coachs for changing the D from a 4-3 to a 4-2.  Nice to see a coach put ego aside, "we can play our base D all game and win", for the betterment of the team.  I am not, nor ever will be, a fan of the bend but don't break defense.  First off, team's can control the clock against you and limit your touches (a recipe for disater, ask CU).  Secondly, you are usually going to lose the battle of field position.  Be aggressive and make other teams make plays.  Base D (4-3) is nice if you can consistently get pressure with your front four, but a lot of teams can not.  The 4-2-5 allows a lot more versatillity and gets more speed on the field.  With  more and more teams playing 3 and 4 and sometimes 5 WR sets on a regular basis, you can not have enough DBs.  Imagine the possibilities and blitz packages with safeties as good and physical as the Hausler teams.  Safeties regularly sneak into the box on running downs anyways, so if you can stop the run with a good front 4 and 2 LBs, there really is no benefit for playing a 3rd LB.  So nice adjustment Mount coaching staff.  Talent on the field is not the only reason you win game after game.
