Did Arth start out at JC or did he transfer in, and if so from where?

If I remember correctly he was a prospect in HS but had an injury (hand?) and missed a few (4 or 5) games. By the time he moved back to QB the D1 schools had moved on and he went to JC. Of course I could be wrong - but I thought that was his story.

Arth played four years in Division III. I was at his first game in 1999.

Don't you have some big time NBC work to be doing right now?  ;)

I was wrong. Arth was a receiver in HS at St. Ignatius. He moved to QB when the starter went down. Regardless - he did not transfer from D1.

In the 70's Baldwin-Wallace and Wittenberg played for a national title and were both in the OAC. Imagine that, the OAC was the best conference then and it still is. Anyway I'm thinking it was '78 because I believe that is the year B-W won it all and I think it was then they beat Wittenberg for the title.  Something like only four teams made the playoffs back then it was not the format it is today. It is possible but not probable two teams from the same conference will ever meet again in the championship game.

Modified to add the above link.  It was '78 but I was wrong, by then eight teams were in the playoffs. '74 was the last year only four made it.

Thanks for the research Ric!

Any Mounties travelling to the ONU/Cap game?   I plan to get up early and head that way....will be interesting to see ONU after we faced them and CAP before....
I think the bears will bounce back...by the way, is the ONU helmet logo a new one? I don't remember seeing it before, but I am forgetful...was a neat though...

In support of Pat, Keith,  and d3.com...they have been to plenty of Raider contests and it's always great to see them in Alliance.  Personally I like more coverage of other regions...the North is familiar to most Mount fans...

regarding the press box at Mount, it is a wonderful facility, however there are some blocked sight lines as the posts between the windows are unusually wide...they have made minor improvements each year...this year they added doors that close off the video area and help the heat situation upstairs...will be much warmer on second floor...
still the best I have seen in D3 in thirty years....

Wow, I'm a B-W student and completely forgot about that. But yeah, I still watch that game every so often (It's on BW's website if you look for it). I would think that there's a good chane it won't happen again unless Capital rebounds from that JC scare and becomes the team that these Capital fans think it is.

We've been to Capital. We've been to Mount Union (many times, in fact).

We've never been to Mary Hardin-Baylor.

You do not have a monopoly on good games. You better worry about Saturday before you start assuming that the Cap/Mount game will be a better game in the rankings.

I feel like TO, totally misunderstood......lol.  I think I said everything that was said back to me, I am worried about losing to ONU (that is definitely not a gimme game), I do think the WW-MHB game is a GREAT game and not an every year occurence, I do think Mount will PROBABLY handle CU.  All that being said, it is tough to miss 1 vs. 4 (potentially) in any division.  I even stated that I understand Mount gets and deserves a great deal of national exposure, but a highlight game for an up an coming program can only help bridge the gap between Mount and the other OAC teams.  I was not complaining, rather consider it constructive criticism.  Maybe you can make the rematch if CU is fortunate enough to make the playoffs again.  That still is a big IF.

It's a new logo this year.  ONU unveiled a modernized version of the Polar Bear logo on the first day of classes this year.  The university told the team to put the new bear head on their helmets so the branding of the new logo was consistent.  I personally liked the N or the plain look but you can't blame the university for being consistent with the new look.  The new logo is definitely a lot better than the old one.

Since you describe Cap as an "up and coming" program...just how many years does a program get to be called an "up and coming" program?  Ever since Rocky's freshman year I've been hearing about Capital as a program on the rise.  I think it's safe to say they've risen, and they probably won't field a much better team than they have now...unless Marty Assman's arm is as great as his name.  As for 1 vs. 4...unless you're talking about Rocky vs. the ONU line, those numbers are irrelevant this week.

Having a little trouble feeling bad about the heat situation in the press box ::)  Just keep up the good work

Up and coming only applies to the grand scheme of things or if you are the Columbus Dispatch.  Compared to the Mounts, ONUs, JCUs and BWs of the world, with great tradition, Cap still is relatively new to the top tier of the league.  But I do agree with you as far as Cap having some legitimacy of being an upper echelon program.  The local paper still calls them an "up and coming" team every year in there college preview.  I guess top 5 and the country and an elite 8 appearnce does not satisfy them either.  I like your 1 vs. 4 reference, quite humorous, but hopefully not a sign of what is to come.  I haven't seen ONU play this year obviously, but I think Cap will more than have there hands full.  If JCU could control the ball against the Cap D, I worry about what the ONU running game can do.  Let's hope for more ONU turnovers and short fields.  I say play 8 in the box, bring pressure off the edges and make Quirk beat you with his arm rather than his legs.  If they can control Meadows and keep Quirk in the pocket, I like our chances.  Of course turnovers are always the wildcard along with special teams.

here is something i am not sure many of the posters would know... good old D3 has gotten some prime time exposure in the past

I was told JOHN MADDEN commentated one of BW's game sduring an nfl strike... anyone want to add

I'm pretty sure there was a Witt-BW game covered by CBS during an NFL strike.  I can't remember who the broadcasters were, but I think it was prior to Madden as a broadcaster.

I think Occidental had a game on too.
