Anyone want to see a Doeder vs. Blindside matchup?  Could be fun.

At least Doeder was funny.

doeder was funny........

Most of the Mount opponents sit on the east side of the stadium with the rowdies that Reginald and I have banned from the real fan base because their raucousness causes us to spill our tea.  Please refrain from refering to all Mount fans based on the idiotic (although passionate) actions of a certain purple wigged--(and I will say a little personally wigged out)--fan and his merry band of idiots.  Most of us have a great deal of respect for the fans and players of the other teams.  I have much respect for Capital, Wabash, Wheaton, etc. (and especially Bridgewater--great tailgate at the last Stagg--thanks for the chicken and the brownies)--There are a lot of idiots at many schools--and some (too many) of them reside here at "dear ol' MUC".

Speaking of respect---I was very impressed last week when all of the ONU players, both on and off the field, took a knee whenever there was an injury on the field--class act by a class program.  I wish the same respect could be reflected by all of the programs--including ours.  It seemed that we just saw it as another time out to figure out how to take better advantage of the other team--even when it was our own player who was injured.

My main concern regarding class has to do with the number of personal fouls called on MUC--and LK's response in the Alliance Review that it is players playing with passion--sorry, but passionate players don't need to play dirty.  I understand penalties happen, especially motion, offsides, etc.--that is agressive play.  Personal fouls, though, are inexcusable.

I fondly remember a time when LK would pull a player--even a defensive player (can you say BJ Payne) for a personal foul.  As a Mount fan, I miss those days.

Respectfully submitted,

Theaprof--MUC fan since 1990, when I arrived in A-town.

BillyRay

I just spent the last half hour on the phone with my good friends at Direct TV verifying that I will be watching ONU and CAP square off on Saturday.  Arizona just got a little better.

As you can imagine the wife is thrilled.

Oh my stars!!!
How many satellites will USSPACECOM be repositioning in order to make this viewing possible???  Given that, will NORAD be able to pick up on it in time, should Santa Claus decide to invade North America two months early?!?!

I was gonna ask the question last Saturday, after the game with ONU, about the personal foul/unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.  I wondered how much can be explained away (not necessarily correctly or properly) by aggressiveness in play or the "passion" that has been referred to.
Even on a bomb-run, you are to be capable of calling "withhold" at the last moment if the target or delivery is just not right.

OK...  Last comment/question for the night (from last Saturday as well).
Last week, it was mentioned by the WRMU play-by-play team that Micheli is a lefty (with Jorris, I assume, being a righty).  Given what little I know about the aerodynamics of a football in flight, but what I believe to be true about its delivery from a lefty vs righty (it should spin the opposite direction), is there any discernable visual/optical illusion/etc. difference to the receiver???

"Most of the Mount opponents sit on the east side of the stadium with the rowdies that Reginald and I have banned from the real fan base because their raucousness causes us to spill our tea."

When I read the post about Mounts dirty drunken fans - I was thinking about a post from last year (I think) which referred to "Reginald" and sipping tea at the Mount games. (Was that your post aprof?) I don't think that qualifies a fan base as dirty. Unless of course it is an exceptionally mysterious brew of tea. I am sure Mount has its share of bad fans - but they are a distinct minority of the true Mount fans. You just can't place that label on all the fans just because of a few.

As far as the personal fouls are concerned - I watched the replay of the Mount ONU game to look for some of these and was hard pressed to find any. The one that stands out in my mind was when the ONU radio guys said that Barge had his hand on the ONU defenders facemask and was "twisting his head off" on the 4th quarter break away. When I watched it - in real time and the slow motion replay - Barge did not even touch the facemask (his right hand was on the side of the helmet by the ear hole) and no twisting occurred at all. That said I am sure that not all of the personal fouls were imagined and you hate to see a good team have so many plays like that.

Okay this is too long so here is hoping this is a good, clean football weekend. Good luck to the Crusaders - cause I think ONU has something to prove this weekend.

Maybe the ball has a natural curve like a lefty pitcher would have? I can't imagine it is that much different - afterall there have been several successful lefty QBs (I think Steve Young enjoyed some good moments).

So Yes I can make the generalization

I assumed that you were making generalizations in your post and you agreed.  Thanks for proving my point.  I don't come on this board with an axe to grind or some big chip on my shoulder.  I'm looking for intelligent dialogue and I guess I'll just keep looking.  The reality of fans at any level from Pee Wee Football Dads to the NFL is that They're asses in EVERY fan base... Period...and physical sports like football, basketball, hockey etc. tend to magnify those individuals to a higher degree.  That being said...I've also traveled through the OAC for a few years (1970's) and played D1 football and I can tell you that these "worst" fans are in the minority... but do exist in EVERY fan base including Capital's.

It's great that your a fan of CAP...they're an outstanding program...and you're entitled to your opinion. Just don't be blind_sided by the truth.

I think the MUC fan base also gets a bad rap since 2/3 of the VISITOR'S side is also filled with MUC fans.  Which puts the good guys and bad guys side by side, and sometimes mixed together.  That is a recipe for trouble, regardless of the schools involved.  Then factor in that you already hate MUC because of their success and the fact that you're getting blown out.  Yup, the MUC fans suck.   At least that's what it seems like when you're down by 30 at halftime sitting right beside a bunch of MUC fans that are complaining about that we're only winning by 30.;D

The worst fan base I've ever witnessed, and this is by a HUGE margin, is Wabash.

The best was Bridgewater, VA.  Also by a good margin.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

HS Coach...completely agree with your post!

p.s. Save some pizza for me in the press box today...unlike last year. :)

I believe the personal foul problem is bourne of frustration partly. There were definately players who hit after the play and/or away from the play. When a Raider responds, then the foul gets called on him. Also the linemen get tired of being held on the pass rush and the refs letting it go. The refs probably think Mount doesnt need their help. Some coaches probably conceed that their best chances of containing certain  players is to knock him out of the game. Dont tell me that is not part of some coaches game plans. We all know better. As for the facemask penalty called on the runner in the ONU game...his fingers did curl around the side of the helmet and at least partly inside the helmet. Im sure the ref responded to the defenders head being pushed back so far, and was trying to protect him. I say he erred on the side of caution. Nice run anyways!

As for the Raiders fans on the pressbox side being wilder....I ve sat on both sides of the field and will gladly trade the protection of the awning for the enthusiasm of the open side.  Sometimes I cringe at what some fans will say...but I cant understand why the home side is so lethargic sometimes. Dont they realize that they are witnessing an era (dynasty) in sports that has never been experienced before? This run will not go on forever, and we should all be exited that we are there to witness it firsthand. Maybe it wil have to end to be appreciated fully. How sad a thought.

section13 - I too would rather sit on the open side and have some fun than sit with the "sit on my hands" crowd. And I guess those under the awning do not realize that this Mount program is something that may never be seen again.

I am not for fans throwing objects or anything like that but a little trash talking makes the game fun. Hammer and his crew have made...shall we say...the games more interesting for the fans in the open stands.

It is my sincere hope that I am reading something into this that you do not mean.

Enthusiasm in support for your team is commendable.  Thinking that because "your team" (which it really isn't) is winning somehow gives you the right to launch verbal assaults on opposing players and fans is just wrong.  Not only is it poor sportsmanship, it's an insult to the team and school you claim to represent.

If blind_side has been the victim of such behavior, then I withdraw my comment about him being a boor, and apply the term instead to those so called "fans" who wrongly believe they have a license to harass and belittle the visitor's fans and team.

If that is the kind of behavior you feel makes the game "fun" (and I most earnestly hope I've misunderstood) then please go sit in the "Dawg Pound" in Cleveland and stop giving Mount Union a bad reputation.

Ok so it is nearly time to go to sleep here (Hong Kong)but I have a long flight in the morning and thought if I stayed up for the muc/wilma game it might help me sleep on the plane.  Is there any chance this game wont PUT me to sleep?
