Desertraider,

That was me with the lovable and silent Reginald.

I am a little confused here ( like most times) because my frustration with Mount fans is you can't hear them. That leads to a feeling they are way too polite. They don't want to offend our "guests" with load noise as we are kicking their ars. The problem is that is something you should enjoy doing at a game. You have come to "Cheer" look it up "to urge on especially by SHOUTS.  Get it out their "fans"?

I have talked to enough opponents fans and am not buying into the knock against the fan base simply because a few idiots don't get it. The general opinion of the people I have spoken with over the years is our fans ar very generous and respectful and fun to be with because of our mutual respect for the game and its' players. Unfortunately as the old saying goes "one bad apple can spoil the barrel so these few are giving a bad impression of the many.

Anyway based on my posts from last year I have figured out why the students are coming?   Is that still true?

When we said something about Cheer......they thought it was free laundry detergent being given away so they could do the laundry on Saturday and have clean undies for the rest of the week.

With only four home games this year that also should have spiked the attendence if the "fans" really want to see their team play.

I have mentioned this before but St. Johns in MN has an aveage attendence of 8000 at home games and had 11,000 for homecoming. Their stadium is out in the middle of nowhere (no offense intended) and have a great fan support every week home and away. They had one school warn them in advance they were only going to sell 600 tickest to their fans because of stadium seating issues.

Oh by the way they also happen to be some of those fans who think the Raider fans a great. Not a bad endorsment from some quality folks.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I was not sure if it was you or aprof - but I did remember reading the post. I have met many other Mount fans - but I can't recall meeting any that could be called "drunken" or "dirty" at games. Some have been over-the-top but that is a far cry from dirty. Actually, I was up at Ft. Snelling, MN a few years ago getting ready to go overseas and ran into a few Johnnies with another unit. They had nothing but positive things to say about MUC and our fans - and this was before they won the Stagg Bowl.

Good teams find a way to win and UWW will find a way without Beaver. I'm sure they have someone who can step up and make a positive impact to the running game. I believe they will go deep into the playoffs.

Mount had another game of over 100 yards in penalties. That can be overlooked to a certain extent playing lesser talented teams but not when you play a quality team. At some point in time penalties can bite you in the rear especially when you need a big play. I've read where this phase of the game can be corrected but that hasn't happened. My question...Is the offense and defense good enough to always overcome these mistakes?

MUC's that ad in penalties? Man, I was ripping Case for ~50 yards yesterday, so I guess I can really lay it on MUC. It shows they have a weakness. If Capital or B-W can exploit that then we may see an upset this season. (B-W won't beat MUC, It will be close though)

A weakness? Nope...a flaw perhaps but not a weakness.

purpled: When it comes to Mount and penalties I think you may have answered your own question - "good teams find a way to win". That being said however, if Mount runs into a team that plays a perfect game (i.e. no turnovers, few penalties) and can capitalize (no pun intended) on Mounts mistakes - then maybe an upset could result. Has that ever happened? Oh wait a minute I think ONU did that last year.

I was disappointed that Capital didn't show their A-game against ONU.  Sounds like ONU didn't either.  That one looked like a Wisconsin score.

Regarding penalties: it may not be a weakness....but its still a tendency.  that means you can count on them happening in certain circumstances, and use that to your advantage. I hope that some coach doesnt game plan for that and use it to kill drives in the red zone. Field position is so important in close games. Personal fouls can escalate to ejections too. Then your players out the next game also. Better address it now.

I watched the OAC game of the week on TV and was impressed with the broadcast, but disappointed in the game itself. Neither team looked all that good. Next weel CAP is on again and has a chance for redemption. The broadcasters had an uncanny ability to ramble on without breathing. The patter was fast and furious. They must get paid by the word and fined for pauses over 1 second.

First 3 quarters of football were very sloppy & ugly for both teams.  A lot of slippery footballs out there!!  However, the 4th quarter was fun to watch, as Cap capitalized on ONU's mistake of the man coverage on Alexander.  I was very dissapointed once again on the number of dropped passes.  Alexander & Niedzwiecki in particular.  Both caught td's, but both dropped 3rd conversions that should have been 1st downs, in addition to Ned dropping a td pass in the corner of the endzone.  Cap also did a great job of keeping Trusnik out of the backfield...kudo's to Cap's O-Line!!  Now, let's keep rolling & put to the Otter's!

Just came back from the Freshman Mount Union game at B-W.  B-W lead 6-0 and 13-0 then 13-3 at the half.    Mount closed it to 13-10, then went up 17-13 in the third qt.  B-W took the lead 20-17 in the fourth, then mount finished it at 24-20 for the win.  Very good game and both teamshave some good talent.  B-W RB #4  went for 70 yards and 55 yards , he had the most speed on the field by far.  The freshman team did not play very well in the first half. It was the weakest Ihave seen in 11 yrs, however in the second half they looked good. Rocco Crapis is another Kemic in the making.  He has toughness, good vision does not go down easy just keeps making yards (when his line gave him a chance.  Also #24 Tommy Biel 6"2' 215 is excellent also.  Danny Harris is another good QB, lead the team and made some good plays.  This team is in my top 3 in the last  11yrs.  There are all the parts there, off. linemen, d-linemen, kicker, deepbacks and receivers.  This was the best B-W team I have seen.

been busy with HS football and havent been around the cmp... Great job by the Crusaders... I have mentioned before a win is a win... A field goal made by Cap last season as the clock ran out was still a win... That team only went on to make the playoffs and win 2 games... Only losing to that team in alliance... so people keep talking about oh man they only won by 1,2,3,4,5,6,or 7 points....yep they sure did, but hey they still have a goose egg in the loss column.... i am sure wilm, ott, onu, etta, bw, musk, berg and jc would love to be in Cap and Mounts place...

desertraider...Good teams find a way to win but I was referring to a team losing a player and then having a week to replace him. That team has the time to re-organize and prepare. With regards to penalties you cannot always prepare for a holding penalty after making a first down late in the game to keep the winning drive alive. Penalties kill drives and games.

I too have been concerned about Mt.s over abundance of major penalities.  It seems they are more consistant with them this year.  However, Paul Brown often said when asked about penalities that if he would be more worried if they weren't making them.  I guess he believed that if your playing hard and at full tilt you will make penalities.

RE: Penalties

Last years Penalties for Mount for the Regular Season (10 Games):
PENALTIES-YARDS...............       76-670
  Average Per Game............       7.6-67.0

This years Penalties for Mount for the Regular Season (6 Games):
PENALTIES-YARDS...............       59-543
  Average Per Game............       9.8-90.5

Does appear to be up some.  Thanks Ric for the stats from your site.
