Pentello MVP, he is by far the most valuable to his team
although Kmic is POY, sophomore status will hurt, but that is part of the game

Kostelnik POY defensively, but playing with Stickley will split the vote

I don't know about MVP, but IMO Trusnik the LB is more valuable than Trusnik the DE..I have seen him three times and he was better than DE each time...

I am purple so somewhat biased, but Stickley is haing a much better year at DE than Trusnik, but I know that he has been injured...

Two years ago, Trusnik was the most dominant DE Ihave seen for many years in the OAC.

Another season, another loss for my Crusaders to the Raiders.  This story line is getting old.

I logged on this past weekend looking for a score much like last year's playoff game.  What I read and what I saw in the stats was pretty much MUC domination.

Now I just hope we can get through BW in a couple of weeks and get into the playoffs.  If Kmic can run like he did, I hope Cap can stop Hedges from BW.

I guess they have this week against Musky to fine tune things.

Hedges will get the other first team spot.  He's having a good bnounceback year and broke the BW career rushing record earlier this season if I'm correct.

Re: Stickley and Trusnik

I am not trying to knock Stickley in any way, shape or form but I must be missing something regarding his performance this season.  J Trusnik has much better numbers on the year than Stickley.  I know Stickley played huge in the ONU and CAP games but I am missing something since everyone keeps talking about his monster year.  I know stats don't mean everything and that a player can really mean more to a team than what you see on a box score but 2.5 of his five sacks came in the two big games and over half of his TFL's came in those games as well.  So are the stats accurate?  I just don't see him getting the nod for Defensive POY with someone like Trusnik still putting up very good numbers.

You said you have seen Lenny Trusnik (LB) play three times.  One of those times was this year when Jason was playing hurt.  I'm guessing another game was when ONU beat Mount (a game in which J Trusnik didn't play due to injury).  The third time you saw them play was presumably 2004 (since L Trusnik has only played Mount three times) and J Trusnik had a big game while L Trusnik was a backup and played mostley special teams.

I am just guessing on the games you've seen them play but if I'm correct, then you haven't seen a fair sample to make any judgment on the two brothers.  L Trusnik is a very good LB.  J Trusnik is the best DE ONU has ever seen and the most prolific pass rusher in OAC history.

Just a quick chime in....  You guys have to remember that most of Mounts 1st stringers don't play much into the second half...  If even at all.

Heck after seeing all of mounts games this year I know that Stickley only played a full game in the BW and Cap games...  All other games the 1st team D and O were  on the sidelines for the 90% of the second half...   Even against ONU the D was on the sidelines early in the third quarter....
So please remember stats don't mean anything when comparing player to player...

I'm sure that "in most cases" trusnik plays and entire game so his stats would be higher....   Overall, to have the stats these Mount kids have "usually in a first half only" is pretty amazing..   IMO

Usually, more time on the field means more/higher stats...... :-\

I saw Cap @ ONU a few weeks ago, too...
I don't disagree about DE's past dominance, I saw it... I was just saying that in the games that I have seen this year, the LB was more valuable than the DE...further I admitted I knew DE was playing hurt...
I just loved  the way the LB played in the games that I witnessed

I agree and love the way Lenny Trusnik plays at LB.  I just feel bad for those people that only saw Jason play the CAP and MUC games because he was playing hurt and doing everything he could for the team.

I'm honestly surprised more people didn't question a health issue when he was so limited in those games.  Jason Trusnik has always been a good ballhawk though and not just a sack machine.  When he's held out of the box score entirely or almost entirely, I know he's not playing at full strength.

I just hope the Bears can come together for the final two games and end on a positive note.

I definitely picked Trusik over Stikley. Based on what I saw aw both bW, games, Stikley seemed prtty much on par with the other linemen, while Trusnik had a part in at least half the tackles, at least in the first half (his brother played better than stickley as well)

For the record, I'm on the Matt Kostelnik bandwagon for Defensive POY because he does have the "eye popping" stats that award identifies.   Not Stickley.  If Trusnik gets it, I can only assume it's solely based on him being extremely dominant in the PAST and that it's a great "comeback from injury" story.  Injury or not, POY's must dominate week in and week out and then show up big in the biggest games.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Regarding who has better stats and who should get defensive POY. The problem with the system is that you cant get any stats on how many plays were called to go away from a dominate player because the coach knew the kid would kill his game plan. Or how about how many times a player was double teamed and still blew up a play? Or how less effective was the defense when that player was off the field with an injury? If a player was TOLD to stay home and protect his zone, would he be penalized for not blitzing...statistically you cant get a sack for loss if your assignment is to stay home. The only real way to judge this award is to watch all the games and then review the films. Who has that kind of time? Some might call these intangables, but they are quite tangable to me. Can we deduct for overrunning a sack and missing? Can you get extra credits for playing a monster game with an injury? Extra credit for running down a play from the far side of the field? And WHY should you not be considered because you are an underclassman? Isnt that age discrimination? Isnt that UNAMERICAN?  Would it be any more unfair if someone had to share the award?  Heres my vote...if both are available for the game, Stickley is my starter and Trusnik sees lots of snaps.   But Wouldnt it be great to start both..on opposite sides of the field?

Well said: +k!

I've argued on several boards that individual defensive stats are virtually meaningless, largely because if a guy is TOO good the whole game plan changes in such ways that he can't get stats.  You added some other good reasons.

Check out the stats for the second half of Charles Woodson's Heisman Trophy winning year (the ONLY primarily defensive player ever to win the award) - they are mediocre, at best.  The obvious reason is that no sane qb would throw a pass within a country-mile of him!
