reality check

Why do we even have a poll when it's rather obvious from the results of just about every poll we have ever had that posters will remain committed (for the most part) to their own team or their own team's player?

And since there are more Mount posters than all the other schools combined almost every poll will swing the way of the Raiders.

Rocky vs. Kmic....Kmic
Rocky vs. Jorris...Jorris
Stickley vs. Trusnik...Stickley
Kostelnik vs. Ronnie Lott...Kostelnik

It's not bad that these guys have so much support.  It's a great thing and gives these guys a huge support structure.  But I take just about every poll with a grain of salt because they are so tilted in the favor of the Raiders because of fan support.  This current poll only needs two names: the top OAC candidate and someone from Mount.  Everyone is guaranteed to be lost in the mix as much as they deserve to be mentioned for consideration.

You can guess who piked Hedges I guess then... Still, I'm surprised that this forum would pick Jorris over Roky, sine it's lear that Roky's playing extremely well, while I was very disappointed in Jorris's performance the one time I saw him. (I have yet to be not in awe of a Kmic performance, so it's clear to me he's the POY unless Rocky can make the BW defense cry and keel over in 2 weeks.

Because HSCoach asked for it.  :)

Don't lump all of us Raider fans into the same blind group.  For those of you who have forgotten about earlier this year, I was a Raider trumpeting Rocky over Jorris and Trusnik over Stickley as THE MAN at their respective positions.

What I wasn't willing to do was annoint Rocky as the greatest OAC QB of all time.  He's still very solidly behind Arth, Ballard and Borchert in my book.  But  ahead of Smeck, Larlham and Adamson.

You didn't even mention Jason Vrable from Marietta who is 4th in the nation in total yards.  His running game averages 35 yards a game but he is averaging 300 per game passing.  He rushed for 125 yards last week and threw for 286.  I know wins and losses and popularity dictate winners but in pure stats, this kid has broken all the career records at Marietta.      You really need to include him.  He has outpassed Rocky this year.  Rocky is a great Quarterback with a lot of guts but this is Jason's year

All the talk about All-OAC selections and what year the guys are, has got me thinking about the 2007 season.  I know the 2006 regular season isn't over yet, but since this is a relatively slow week at the office, and since it's obvious to everyone that I'm completely insane, I started looking towards the 2007 version of the Purple Raiders.

Overall on paper, it looks like MUC is going to be very experienced next year based on the current depth chart as they return the 6 starters on offense (+2 more if Henniger and Dartt use their medical red-shirt this year) and 7 starters on defense.  Plus factoring in that both the O and D have 9 back-ups that are underclassmen, the holes to fill should be easily done with players that have seen a lot of action in 2006.

OFFENSIVE RETURNEES:

(1) QB:  0 starter, 1 back-up
(2) RB: 2 starters, 2 back-ups
(2) WR: 2 starters, 1 back-up
(1) TE: 0 starter, 1 back-up
(5) O-LINE: 2 starters (4 if Henniger & Dartt return after medical red-shirts in'06), 4 back-ups

Biggest offensive loss:  Jorris

DEFENSIVE RETURNEES:
(2) DE:  0 starters, 2 back-ups
(2) DT:  2 starters, 1 back-up
(2) LB:  2 starters, 1 back-up
(2) CB:  1 starter, 2 back-ups
(3) S:  2 starters, 3 back-ups

Biggest defensive loss:  Stickley

The point of this "it's way too early to be worrying about this yet" diatribe, is that unlike Capital which loses their offense with Pentello, the 2007 version of MUC looks to be just as a strong and experienced as this year.

Just thought the rest of the OAC would like the above good news! ;D

If this Vrable kid riddles the Mt. defense with his speed and passing skills in two weeks, then we will anoint him the best POY !

If this Vrable phenom riddles the Mount D with his speed and throwing ability, I will eat my purple-colored shorts!   ;D

So far this year, I have been unimpressed with all the alleged POY/OAC candidates when they went up against Mount.   Is that a fair barometer, maybe not....but since I am one of those crazy Mount fans that think it's all about Mount, it's my deal.

HSCOACH - I think we may see a version of the Mount O next year that we have never seen before.  LK is REAL high on Micheli.

I wonder why his stats are sooo great??  Is it b/c he plays all 4 quarters, in comparison to other OAC QB's??  Is it b/c they play behind the majority of the games and try to play catch up, so they have to pass every down...defense giving up 23 points a game & their offense avg. 23 points a game.  Maybe he is the best OAC QB, b/c everyone on this board knows stats do not lie...just tell why he has 10 picks in 8 games and completing 55% of his passes in comparison to 4 other OAC QB's with better than 63%??

Mr. R. Vrable, you would not be the one yelling, "pad your stats" when 'Etta played Cap would you??  I just remember sitting beside someone wearing Vrable on the clothes complaining about stats the entire game...probably his "other" biggest fan!!  Good luck against MUC, b/c you will need it!!

Yeah...this would be a good time to let people know it's embarassing to talk up a POY candidate when your email address is of the same last name.

Vrable is a very good QB and the best ever at Etta but he doesn't belong on a list of the top five all-time OAC QB's.  One stat you missed is his 17-10 TD/INT ratio which certainly doesn't compare well with Jorris's 20-2 or Pentello's 21-3.  He does lead the OAC in INT's too so we can add his name to another league leader list.

Look, Vrable's the best QB Etta has ever seen but he's going to go down as a solid OAC QB and nothing more.

Is it possible that Meadows with still recieve All OAC if he is still the 2nd or 3rd leading rusher in the OAC, with only playing 6 games?
