Yeah Vrable's terrible, and yet Marietta scored the most points all year on Mount Union.

Not that i think Marietta was at all competitive from looking at the stats. By the numbers Mount Union blew them out horrible and Capital didn't; yet Capital's margin of victory was greater. Marietta was pretty competitive with everyone else in the conference.

I think that Marietta, although it may have a way to go, is the most improved team in the OAC.  It was not that long ago they were the doormat for everybody.  They have played some storng games this year.

They haven't been the doormat.  Heidelberg has that honor.  Marietta has been that rug just inside the front door that still gets walked all over but doesn't get the same kind of trampling as the doormat.

I don't know how a team that goes 6-4, 5-5 and 6-4 over the last three seasons can be labelled the most improved.  They only improved by about 2 wins per season from their down years.  I expected them to put up a 7-3 or maybe even an 8-2 season but when the coaching change took place, I lost that hope.  I'd say they won one more game than I expected them to this season.

Mulkey was not getting the job done as far as the running game goes for Cap. Charlie Smith did a great job yesterday.

Better late than never.

I remember hearing big talk about Charlie Smith when he was recruited.  Maybe he can do something in the playoffs ala Kmic last year.

Mulkey may not get very much pt during the playoffs.  He had a huge fumble, and did not see the field from that point on yesterday...Smith ran with a lot of heart & showed he did not want to be at home next week...only question was where the O-Line was after halftime??  Smith had 100 yards rushing the 1st half, and ended with 114 yards!!  Cap scores on their first 3 posessions, but doesn't score the entire 2nd half, & what's up with the 5 fumbles??  How about putting some starters on Special Teams, as they were absolutely atrocious!!

The best part of yesterday was watching Cap's defense flying all over the field...finally!!  BW didn't know what to do after their first drive.  Being held 0-13 on 3rd down with 3 fumbles and 1 Int on the day for BW's Offense...ouch!!

Here's to another Playoff Run!!

I read in the canton suppository that coach k will be speaking at the HOF club luncheon in the near future.  What caught my eye was they said Mt. Union College winners of SIX national championships.........   Iam glad the local paper follows the Raiders with such a keen interest.   If it isn't Mc Kinley or Jackson forget it.

Looking forward to an appearance by "formerd3db" on this board in the upcoming days, who is a Hope product if I'm not mistaken.

BTW Bushman I don't think our Larry wants to be called Coach K yet, or ever. There's already a great one of those ;)

Maybe the coatrack? You wipe your boots off on Heidelberg, kick the mud out of the spikes on Muskingum and then hang the coat up. LOL.

The last time Marietta had 3 straight non-losing seasons was 94-96. Last time they did it 4 times in a row was 66-69, and with two of those being 4-4-1 seasons Marietta has never won 5 or more games 4 straight years. So this is significant relative to the history of the program.

That said, I don't disagree that 6-4 isn't much above what should have been expected. I think there was more improvement than that which did not come out in the final score though. I think the wins over BW and ONU are significant and show what the program, even with its current handicaps, can do.

seventiesraider:
You have a great memory.  Hello to you and all your other Mt. Union colleagues.  I/we expected (suspected? ;)) we'd draw your Purple Raiders.  I HOPE we can pull off "a Rutgers" ;D, however, you and we know that will be very difficult.  Looking forward to everyone's comments this week and, of course, attending the game next Saturday.  Congrats to Mt. Union on another great regular season and title.

seventies   You mean our coach K isn't the greatest coach k?   The one I think you are reffering to is only called that because no one can spell or say his last name correctly.  The real real coach k has  amassed a record the Duke guy can only dream about.

I'm really bummed to find out that South Range and JFK got the Friday night  HS playoff game at Mount Union. I was looking forward to hanging out in Ric and Raiderpa's swank pressbox. Instead I'll be in the somewhat less classy confines in Ravenna. Just glad my two favorite teams are still playing

Well, since BW's done for the season and basketball is start up, I guess I'll take my leave here and go to the other section of the forums. I can pretty much assume MUc will at least make it out of their division, though I'd like to see a MUc-Cap rematch.

I see that Wheaton is in our bracket and probably will make it to the second round.  I wonder if thunder mom is still around?

I'll post this here too as a reminder that the playoff version of the OAC Pick-Em's is up and running:

As usual, the OAC Playoff Pick-Em's is a brand new contest and is open to anyone wishing to participate.  So here's another chance for all of us that absolutely sucked in the regular season contest (myself included) to show exactly how smart we all are.  Points for each game will be equal to the round (Round 1 = 1 pt, Round 2 = pts, etc....)

Good luck to all and let the games begin!

No, but there will likely be plenty of scab posters in her place. Let the board beware I fear an active couple of weeks.

Great game for Cap on Sat.
Caps O played very well in the first half, Rocky was sharp and Charlie Smith had over 100 yards.  I thought they played it safe in the 3rd with the wind in their face and in the 4th they just let the D take over.

Did the QB get hurt or did BW make a change?

Defensively...outstanding other than the first drive.  It appears with Kyle Hausler back they are playing the more confidence.
