OK, I need some help here.  This is a tough situation this weekend (and I'm sure I'm not the only one):

On one hand, Capital is hosting a playoff game for the first time.  Despite not actually playing for the current staff, I have remained loyal to Cap football and try to support them whenever I can.  This will really be the first weekend I will be able to make a game all season.

On the other, there is that little matter of the other game in Columbus that day: OSU-Michigan, quite possibly the biggest ever big game... the first time these two teams will play as undefeated #1vs.#2.  As is the case with most Ohioans, I am a big Buckeye supporter, especially since Coach Tressel arrived.

So what do I do?

Of course, I want to watch both games, but depending on kickoff of the Cap game, I'm not sure it is a possibility with the OSU kickoff set for 3:30.  It'd be one thing if I could leave Bexley for a TV set someplace nearby, but with the current family situation (new baby and all), I would have to back in Lexington, KY on Saturday night.  At the very least I would have to get back to the in-laws down in Hamilton after the Cap game, but how much of the OSU game would I miss on the road?  Hearing it on the Radio is one thing, but I have the feeling that this will be a game you want to WATCH, not just listen to.  Also working into my decision is the fact that this is a rematch of a 57-7 Cap drubbing in the first game of the season.  I know, I know, that was a long time ago and this IS the playoffs, but will the outcome really be that much different?  I was considering the sports bar option, but I have a feeling that every place in Columbus will be packed by about 11am... not an option following the Cap game.  My loyalties are telling me to go to Columbus and just suck it up in regards to OSU-UM, but what if the Cap game is another total blowout and the OSU game is one for the ages as it promises to be?  I mean, a Cap win, and they will play at home the next weekend as well, without the distractions of a game on the other side of town.

What to do, what to do?

Any suggestions?

A caveat to this: If Cap hosts a D3 playoff game and it is OSU-Michigan week in C-bus, does anyone really know about it?  (open shot at the Columbus press)

JK:

Easy decision to make here.  Kickoff is at noon in Bexley, so you can make the trip on Friday night or Saturday morning.  Watch Cap take on Witt (hopefully get the "W"), then head on over to the Zig, Monk, or even Ol' Bag to watch OSU take on The Team up North (hopefully get the "W") at 3:30pm.  I think 3 1/2 hours b/w the 2 games is plenty to get in both...

I guess the MIAA HAS different D standards as they give up 312 yds a game. That's a lot by any standard, don't you think?

True, but if you leave out that Alma game, it's resulted in less than 12 points a game.  And 4 of their last 5 games they only gave up one TD.

BTW, I'm a CCIW guy, so I have no dog in this fight!  But their D has been very good lately, at least against MIAA opponents.

Interesting that the first Hope poster chooses to throw a subtle jab regarding the OSU/MICH game and not mention the MUC/HOPE matchup.  It appears even Hope(less) knows where it stands against Mount Union.

I expect the trash talk to be at a minuimum this week since Hope(less) knows it's shots are long and Witt has very little support on the NCAC board and already lost to CAP big once this season.  Next week the chatter begins.

Actually, I was the first HOPE poster on here yesterday AND mentioned the MUC/Hope matchup first.  Granted, I didn't bring up the U of M/OSU matchup (dad is a U of M grad).  Given the odds are as you say (except perhaps the latter match-up), still doesn't mean a "Rutgers" couldn't happen.  In any event, I HOPE you are wrong and that it is at least "a tie". ;D   Nonetheless, both Ohio teams are very good and we acknowledge that. ;)

Mr. Ypsi:
Thanks for the support.  Even a little bit helps. :)

Sorry I overlooked you.  You post here regularly so I just consider you a friendly from up north.  I've often thought it's a shame you somehow found yourself in that state to the north.   ;)

Now here's a thot for saturday

Thot: n. 1.) Mount Unionese for a preminition or idea in one's head; similar to a thought but far less complex (because it's coming from a Purple Raider).  Some believe that the "ugh" was dropped because it's a sound so many Raider fans have heard from the opposing stands during playoff games.  Said "ugh" sound was deemed "un-Raiderlike" and thus dropped from Mount Unionese vocabulary.

;D

(Since noone else is trying to rile the collective Raider feathers, I am taking one for the OAC team.)

You are getting clever in your old age.  +1 Karma for you!

I'm just grateful for the chance to chat with some new folks. I'm not sure if I'll be around Saturday or not. I was honored that was asked to announce a conference basketball preview Saturday until I realized it was the same time as OSU-Michigan and probably 30 other folks who give a damn about D1 turned it down. Oh well, I can work on my announcing skills in front of a handfull of parents, :-X

you going to watch mogadore play friday night

Mr. Ypsi

rc (and OAC posters in general),

I realize that Hope(less) is probably irresistable, but you should both have a pretty easy time in the first round (though 'there is a reason they play the games' ;D).  Better save your best insults for the later rounds! ;)

d3db,

I suspect the rise of (especially) GVSU and SVSU is taking a toll on MIAA fball.  As a 36+ year Michigander (even if I am a CCIW guy at heart), I support the MIAA - and they don't seem hurt by the d2s in bball!

To all (since I'm old enough to well-remember Bob Ufer),

MEEEEEEECHIGAN stomps the team down south!  (Actually, I'm hoping for a VERY close (or even OT) game, just so we can do it again in January! ;D)

Hmmm...

Given the matchups this weekend I have to ask:

Is it better the be Hope(less) or Witt(less) this weekend?

Crusader26,

You obviously aren't married with kids, or you didn't read all of my post.  I actually considered trying to pull off the go to the Cap game and then hit a bar for the OSU-UM game, but there is no way the wife would let that happen.  Figure the OSU game ends about 6:30pm, that puts me back in Lexington around 9:30pm.  On the front end, I would have to leave around 9 am to get up to C-bus for Cap's noon kickoff.  That is 12 hours on a weekend that she is alone with a 5 month old.  SHe does it all week when I am at work, so no way she lets me do it on a weekend unless it is job related.  It's one thing to be worthless at the house in front of the TV, because I can at least watch the baby, but to leave her alone for an additional 12 hours most likely won't fly.  If I go to the Cap game, I'd most likely have to head back to Lexington immediately.
(and all the older giys are bobbing their heads...you know what I am talking about)

I already told the wife I will stay home and listen to the Cap game before I turn on the TV for the OSU game.  She won't get a lot of quality time from me his weekend, but at least I'll be here, unlike the last month or so.

Mtfan,
