reality check,

Unless you can use that AA punter in suprise situations.  Such as quickkicks...maybe he can ricochet a punt off a LB's leg then BW can grab the ball and advance it.  The offense won't have many yards gained, but it may be more effective  :)

Yes, I know it seems like I participated in 4:20 activities today...

Come On Guys,Don't Kick a wounded Horse(Berg) when they are down, I remember following the Raiders When they were in the same spot. 40s and 50s were lean years. I remember one Mount Faithfull Saying. We used to celrabrate a first down,And build a Bonfire! Better days are ahead for Berg. Can't get any worse!!!!!

RC-
I thought Carroll wised up and started scheduling cupcakes for homecoming (they had the Berg last year) but apparently the Streaks want a challenge.  We'll see what happens Saturday.

every team has their ups and downs, one thing i give the berg credit for is playing tough.   when i played(1999-2003) it was always a rough game, they always hit hard.  just had trouble putting the points up, and keeping them off the other scoreboard as well...not a good combo.  when was the last time the berg won a conference championship?

Heidelberg dominated the OAC in the 50's.  They won their last OAC championship came in in 1959 but they also won the OAC title in '56, '54, and '52.

1959 is a long time but ONU hasn't won it since 1942 and that's the only ONU OAC title.  OTT on the other hand has been an OAC member since 1921 and is without a single championship.

But hey Ohio State hasn't won an OAC title since 1912.

A quick look at my 1969 Mount yearbook reveals a 5-4 record (1968) which included wins over, Franklin, Kenyon, Hiram, Wooster and Wilmington with losses to Denison, Westminister, Marietta and Ohio Wesleyan, (OAC 3-3).  Of course we had a tall, skinny kid from Diamond named Kehres at QB  :o and now you know the rest of the story.

PS According to OAC records, Ohio State has never formally withdrawn from the Ohio Athletic Conference

The Berg also played in the Stagg bowl in the early 70's--72 or 73, I think.  But things went downhill pretty soon after that, because they didn't have many wins when I was there from 74-78.  It wasn't me--the only playing i was doing was in the band! ;D

Nice game by JCU.  Passing game certainly was sharper than vs Mount.  Converted 10 of 11 third downs and most of the them were third and long.

Rough night for Marietta's secondary.  Didn't tackle or play the ball well the whole game.

Good call.  I had overlooked the OAC Championship game years (1972-1983) when there were two divisions within the OAC.  Heidelberg did win the OAC championship game in 1972 over Musky and went 9-0.  The Berg website says they did indeed win the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in '72 against Fort Valley State (GA) 28-16.  odaconline (where Stagg history is located) does not list the 1972 Stagg Bowl results as the Division III national championship game.  According to the site, the Stagg wasn't recognized as the national championship game until 1973.

Do any of the old-timers know the story about Kenyon or Oberlin in the OAC in the 70's and early 80's?

In 1970, both schools competed for the OAC title.  In 1971, Kenyon was not a member of the OAC.  In 1972, Kenyon was not eligible for the championship but went 7-0-1 and Oberlin was now gone from the OAC.  From 1973-79 both Oberlin and Kenyon were not competing for the championship but played every season in the OAC.  In 80 and 81, Oberlin was still not competing for the championship but Kenyon was.  By 1982 and 83 both were not eligible again for the championship.  Then they both left for good in 1984.  I am really curious as to why they would have bounced around so much and not being around when this all took place, I wonder if anyone has an answer as to why.

Here's something for you OAC posters to do this week:
Rank your top 10 OAC schools in terms of who you would root for when they are not playing your favorite school.  For example, if Capital and Otterbein are playing, I would root for Capital because I appreciate their staff and they have a former JCU guy helping out there.  With that rational, here's my OAC Top 10...

1) JCU-- because I played there.
2) Capital-- for reasons stated above and they were an easy win in my day.
3) Mount-- because they have brought positive attention to D3 and OAC
4) Heidelberg-- JCU guy in charge and nickname gets many points
5) Muskingum-- I put them in the middle where they always finish.
6) Otterbein-- was a nice place to get a night game win.
7) Marietta-- have you been there?  Enough said.
8) ONU-- would have been lower if not for new coach and good A.D.
9) Wilmington-- still haven't fully embraced Hiram's replacement.
10) BW-- has the arrogance of MUC w/o warranted reason.

reality check:
I can't answer your question as to why Kenyon and Oberlin bounced around the different leagues back then as you relate.  However, I do remember that in the late '70's, Oberlin almost eliminated it's football program.  You probably recall that back then, the had only about 23 players on the team, but the administration wisely chose to continue it and the storied traditiion and history had much to do with the decision as well.  If I recall correctly also, they had hired former Miami Dolphin safety Jake Scott as coach and the controversial Tommie Smith as track coach and while both were somewhat controversial for their past unrelated politics and perhaps coaching styles, I thought they did much to help support the programs survival; yet both left, a former Kalamazoo College coach (I forgot his name right now - don't have the stats in front of me - attempted to resurrect the program thereafter, helped but it still struggled (I believe there was a Sports Illustrated article on Oberlin football during his tenure).  Anyway, you know the rest. :)
