Not to beat a dead horse, but I just realized Tristan Murray was a Gagliardi finalist as well.  Let's see how he and his teams have done in 4 games against CAP. It must be nice to play Kenyon and Oberlin and whoever else they play in the NCAC.  All I have to do is look at the numbers and the scores to tell you that the Gagliardi award DOES NOT go to the best football player in D-3.  They should either change the criteria or call it the well-rounded award.  To consider it the equivalent to the Heisman Trophy for D-3 is a slap in the face to past Heisman winners.  CAP is 4-0 this year against Gagliardi finalists.  ENOUGH SAID.

I'm just trying to make this as simple as possible.

Heisman criteria: most outstanding football player

Gagliardi criteria: excellence in athletics, academics and community service

Perhaps people refer to the Gagliardi as the Heisman of D-III because the Heisman is the showcase award for Div. I and the Gagliardi is the pinnacle of awards in Div. III.  Or perhaps we refer to the Gagliardi as the Heisman of Div. III because while Division I is about "football" more than "college" while Division III is about the student-athlete and his/her love of the game and you shouldn't win the award based on athletic accomplishments alone as a true student-athlete.  To epitomize the Division III spirit, maybe the winner should be an outstanding athlete and do something special off the field.  If nothing else. I say calling the Gagliardi the Heisman of D-III is a slap in the face of the Gagliardi as it is about more than being able to run fast and throw far.

Let's be honest about one thing.....In Anderson's win at Capital, CAP was up 17-0 five minutes into the game.  Rocky breaks his collar bone and game over.  The CAP backup was Jeremy Leeds and he lost his job the next week to  a WR.  So, needless to say, the CAP D was on the field the ENTIRE game.  It was only about 100 degrees that day so fatigue and constantly being on the field probably had more to do with Steele's big day.  Sorry to bust your bubble, but that score would have been worse than your 65-13 a$$ whooping if Rocky doesn't get hurt.  The next year, his 272 came against mostly backups in mop up time.  The entire first half looked like college players against middle schoolers.  No offense.  That score could have easily been 100- 13 if Rocky, in his first full college game, and the rest of the ones not been tailgating by halftime.  He might be a good QB but his numbers are obviously skewed towards his competition.  7-3 after losing 65-13 tells me exactly what kind of POWERHOUSES they play.

Hey, whatever you say.  I'm not an Anderson fan as you can ask just about any of the guys on this thread and I don't care about any excuses..  I was simply saying Steele was a good QB as well.  Good enough to get some kind of professional look after school.

As the story goes, the punt is the most important play in football...then why is a punter never considered for the Heisman?  If a lineman is far and away the best at his position in the country, why no consideration for the award? I know positions have their own awards, but why cant a linebacker be the Butkus winner and the Heisman winner? Why play defense at all? You are never going to be the "best" in football...only offensive players get that honor by default. This award should come with a disclamer that advises that the winner must meet certain criteria, including, playing offense exclusively, lining up in an "elidgible position" exclusively, and must be on a National Championship winner. All others will not be considered. Also your school must "campaign" for consideration on your behalf. Their level of efforts will count towards your award consideration.  This award is waaaaaay over rated.

Congrats to the OAC for still having two teams in the playoffs this far in.  Speaks highly of the league!

I largely agree with you, but you have forgotten ONE exception - Charles Woodsen (and Michigan NEVER campaigns for individual awards - at least not publicly).  And there have been numerous Heisman winners whose team did not win the national championship (though Woodsen's did).

Considering that Woodsen beat out Peyton Manning (something Tennessee fans have STILL never forgiven!), that is a pretty significant exception - though he is still the ONLY defensive player to ever win it.

well Kirasdad ill take that as an almost compliment.... dont mean to be an a$$

how about that Jason Lewis kid... wow where did Mount recruit him from Andre the Giants family tree

reality check

Did you know...

I really can't believe this but Rocky Pentello has never in his storied career at Capital been named OAC Player of the Week.

WR's Derek Alexander, Lewis Howes and Matt Freisner have been on the receiving end of Pentello's passes to earn POTW but Rocky himself has never gotten the nod.

It's kind of hard to believe.
