well Kirasdad ill take that as an almost compliment.... dont mean to be an a$$

how about that Jason Lewis kid... wow where did Mount recruit him from Andre the Giants family tree

6'5" 317.  Larry Kinnard was listed as 6'7" 295 as an incoming Freshman.

Isn't that because he came in as a freshman with some of those SAT practice books strapped to his feet???

Mr. Ypsi et al, RE: Heisman discussion:

The player who really deserved the Heisman was Gordon Lockbaum of Holy Cross back in 1988.  Playing both ways, he clearly was the best collegiate player in the nation his senior year, for that reason alone at the very least.  He clearly embelished everything that college football should include including not only the academics, but the athletic talent on the field, again particularly going both ways.  However, you know that (being awarded the Heisman) wasn't going to happen by the voters.  Too bad; players like he and Woodson are rare (although I would venture to say that Lockbaum had a better personality than Woodson ;D).

Wasnt there another defensive player that won the Heisman way back in the leather helmet days? Jankowitz or something like that? It was way before my time, so im not positive. Anyways, my point was that they eliminate the d-backs, linebackers d-lineman, o-linemen and kickers from consideration for the award. Lets see the how good the winner is without these guys support on gameday! How can they say that these guys skills dont qualify them for best player....ever? You cant be the best of anything if you systematically rule out most of the competition and never consider their contribution to the game. In the course of a season its quite likely that the kicker will score the most points for the team. He may be 300lbs.and totally unathletic, but you win games by scoring the most points dont ya? If the kicker won every game for the National Chmpionship team with last second field goals...do you think anyone would vote for him for Heisman? I think not!

Did you know...

I really can't believe this but Rocky Pentello has never in his storied career at Capital been named OAC Player of the Week.

WR's Derek Alexander, Lewis Howes and Matt Freisner have been on the receiving end of Pentello's passes to earn POTW but Rocky himself has never gotten the nod.

It's kind of hard to believe.

What else is hard to believe, is the fact he has only 1 400+ game (Witt 2006 Playoff-1st Rd) & 1 5td game (NCC 2006 Playoff-2nd Rd)!

Mr. Ypsi

I've always thought the Heisman should find a different role-model anyway - he was guilty of the worst running-up-the-score in college history (216-0 over Cumberland[?]).  Which makes it all the more galling when people refer to the Gagliardi as the 'd3 Heisman'.

Coach Heisman does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Coach Gagliardi.

2minuteO

it may be hard to believe Rocky has only had one 400 yard game, but he very rarely plays past the middle of the 3rd quarter....

...  And who was the quarterback throwing to Gordie Lochbaum?
Jeff Wiley.  Celina, Ohio.

Recognize!

In doing some prep for the game I noticed at the bottom of this year's box and last year's playoff box the final line read: "The Raiders' 345 yards rushing was a season-high."  Exact rushing number for each game.

Of course since the week four game this year Mount Union has rushed for more than 345 yards a few times.  But forget about Rocky.  If Capital can't contain the Mount Union running game they will have a hard time winning.  I think we can all agree on that.

Last year's playoff game was a classic, back and forth, big plays by both teams.  I would have much more fun, and ultimately, would do the radio much longer than I probably will if there were more of these types of games.

So, needless to say, the CAP D was on the field the ENTIRE game.  It was only about 100 degrees that day so fatigue and constantly being on the field probably had more to do with Steele's big day.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Anderson also on the filed playing in 100 degree weather? And injuries are football. Hate to burst YOUR bubble but your team isn't the only team to suffer injuries, or injuries to key players. What's that word I'm looking for??? Oh, Adversity. You deal with it, overcome it, and move on. AND what if Anderson lost some key players in the 65-13 game? Can they use that as an excuse? Here's an idea, lets focus on the team Capital has to try to beat December 2nd.

Sorry to burst YOUR bubble.  but this board already has too many people criticizing Rocky for their own short comings (except for Wilmington, Congrats on the Gallardi Trophy nominee..  a slight hint of sarcasm)

Again Congrats to Anderson 5 years ago for beating Capital, and Congrats to St. Johns in 2003 for beating Mount Union, isn't it crazy how the past doesn't really matter at all, move on with such a stupid topic. Yes on that day without are Star QB we lost and Anderson was better than us so says the score of the game.

Do us a favor and stay off the OAC board until Sat. afternoon when you come back on here saying the refs blew the game and Mount should have never lost by 20 points.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I just realized Tristan Murray was a Gagliardi finalist as well.  Let's see how he and his teams have done in 4 games against CAP. It must be nice to play Kenyon and Oberlin and whoever else they play in the NCAC.  All I have to do is look at the numbers and the scores to tell you that the Gagliardi award DOES NOT go to the best football player in D-3.  They should either change the criteria or call it the well-rounded award.  To consider it the equivalent to the Heisman Trophy for D-3 is a slap in the face to past Heisman winners.  CAP is 4-0 this year against Gagliardi finalists.  ENOUGH SAID.

I'm just trying to make this as simple as possible.

Heisman criteria: most outstanding football player

Gagliardi criteria: excellence in athletics, academics and community service

Perhaps people refer to the Gagliardi as the Heisman of D-III because the Heisman is the showcase award for Div. I and the Gagliardi is the pinnacle of awards in Div. III.  Or perhaps we refer to the Gagliardi as the Heisman of Div. III because while Division I is about "football" more than "college" while Division III is about the student-athlete and his/her love of the game and you shouldn't win the award based on athletic accomplishments alone as a true student-athlete.  To epitomize the Division III spirit, maybe the winner should be an outstanding athlete and do something special off the field.  If nothing else. I say calling the Gagliardi the Heisman of D-III is a slap in the face of the Gagliardi as it is about more than being able to run fast and throw far.

Fine....

Eveyone please write your senators, Rocky P for Heisman (Sorry Troy, but because Rocky didnt volunteer his time at the retirement home he must take your trophy

Mr. Ypsi:
Some people would agree with you on that, but perhaps not Oberlin! ;D

rp:
Thanks for that info.  I had forgot!  If I recall correctly, didn't HC have a pretty good team that year?  In addition, some say that was basically the end before they "deemphasized big-time" football at the school and went Colonial i.e. now Patriot League.  On the other hand, some would not call that "deemphasizing" the game! :)

You've managed to go to a whole new level...

Rocky's better than that other quarterback in Columbus that plays in the Shoe now.

To hell with writing our senators, why don't you start soliciting funds for Rocky's bid for commander in chief?!?
