Sad news confirmed that Jason Trusnik broke his foot Saturday. Decision time awaits on whether to try and come back in 6-8 weeks or go for a medical redshirt.

Sophomore Adam Fitzsimmons played DE Saturday after the injury and is viewed internally as a solid player.

Looks like the Jackets need some fans around here. As a recent Jacket football alum here is my take on the program today.

-The plastering of the "streak" everywhere needs to stop. I mainly blame the SID for this. As players we really didn't talk much about it. IMO this is the year that it comes to an end. Which might be a good thing so then it can't be brought up anymore.
-I personally liked the turf but it needs to go. Due to the fact that at least 2-3 players a year have season ending injuries from practicing/playing on it.
-The uni's have gotten better recently with the new away threads and the new home jerseys. But I will be the first to say that the color combination should be illegal.
-It seems the program has been on a slow decline the past 7 years with the exception of the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Thanks to Larlham and Anders. Hopefully the new rec will help in recruiting.
-The defense has been solid but the offense needs to get better quick. It is too predictable. I would guess about 95% of first down plays and 70% of second down plays are runs. Teams have shut down the run this year against us(Hedges will be lucky to get 800 yards rushing this year). I would be foaming at the mouth if I was a defensive coach for an opposing team. I could write a mid-term paper about how bad it is. Snell needs to change up the play calling and try some different things.
-I love the school and the football program but being honest there is few positive things right now that I can say about it. I hope the team can prove me wrong this year.
-In closing BW may be on verge of starting a new streak. A streak of finishing in the middle of the pack in the OAC. MUC is pulling further away each year, the Otterbeins and Mariettas are getting closer. I hope Snell can do something before it is too late.

I assume you mean the turf needs to be "replaced", not eliminated. ;)  The old Omni turf at BW's stadium (if that is still in place) indeed is outdated both in age and technology.  Alma had the same problem i.e. increasing injuries (especially concussions)until they updated and replaced theirs with the newer style turf.

My unscientific OAC rankings:

1.)     JCU - Jesuit educated athletes - who could ask for anything more?
2.)     Capital - brave enough to wear purple; my high school nickname is also the Crusaders
3.)     MUC - largely voted this high out of respect for the record; home field is a racetrack grandstand masquerading as a football stadium, you need our alum (Tim Russert) to speak at your school
4.)     B-W - throwing the YellowJackets a bone if only to keep the Cuyahoga Bowl alive (is that a rock or a potato on that trophy? http://www.jcu.edu/pubaff/newsandevents/bw_trophy.jpg)
5.)     ONU - comfortably smack in the middle (as in of nowhere, like its location); the sweater on the mascot? - Why?  Do Polar Bears get cold?
6.)     Marietta - points for being dangerously close to West Virginia.   And no, Pioneer nation, it's not baseball season yet.
7.)     Heidelberg - Please - forget the nickname and focus on some W's
8.)     Otterbein - another school that sounds like it should be located in the Alps
9.)     Muskingum - no mascot named for a freshwater fish merits any respect; that John Glenn is an alum keeps them out of the basement
10.)   Wilmington - mercifully the Patriot cum Quaker helmet was put to rest but too late to make up for the mediocre performance on the field (women's b-ball doesn't count) and in the classroom .  Your U.S. News rankings are abysmal!

Welcome to the board! Nice #1 post.

Enjoyed  your frankness about the good and bad at BW.

Do they keep the same colors to try and make the opponent ill during the game? Or is an Iowa thing where they have painted the visitors locker room pink? To bad, so sad Iowa, you were in Columbus this year.

I am surprised if the streak is such a big deal that they don't scream at the top of their lungs that BW is the last OAC team to defeat the Raiders over a decade ago! That's a big deal too isn't it?

They might want to take a peek at a little school out west callled Lindfield if they want to see a real streak!
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Does anyone feel that the loss of Montgomery is as big now as it was perceived when he left?

Nope, it seems like I was a chicken with my head cut off running around and worrying. I will be the first to admit I was wrong. Hopefully he can turn things around at E&H.

Reality,
You got me buddy. I guess that's what happens when you try to copy and paste someone else's post. I just forgot a number. Oh well, but to be honest, they do merit a ranking of 11.lol....I don't have that much hatred toward ONU. I respect the fact that they are always at the top of the league, but I don't respect how they do it. I think I'm still bitter about the 70 points they dropped on us and left Vegedes in the game to get some lame record.

I am not sure which is worse, Iowa's pink vistiting locker room or BW's brown and yellow one. For me I would rather be in a pink room then a room that reminds me of a sewer.

I am sure when week 8 comes around the pre-game article on the BW website will mention something about how we were the last OAC team to beat Mount. No need to write or even talk about something that happened when the current players were in grade school.

I read Linfield's season preview and their "streak" is mentioned once. Myabe it is because they have better things to talk about.

Question for Pat: How many D3 schools still have the old style turf? Carnegie Mellon has it I think but off of the top of my head I can't think of any others.

So the Cleveland Indians just moved their start time up this Saturday from 7pm to 1:30pm.  I have tickets to that game as well as the Capital-MUC game.  Which one should I go to and why?

Much as I like the Raiders and think it will be a good game, I'd choose the Tribe.

Hopefully the Indians don't make this a moot point for you by Saturday.

RE: Raiders Vs. Tribe:

Wait until Friday and see where the Tribe are. If they are still in the Wildcard lead, or have the chance to take over the AL Central, I say Tribe. Otherwise, head to A-Town.

My OAC rankings

1. Capital-There is just something about this school that I really like.  Cannot explain it.  I also went there.
2. MUC-Have done a lot for the OAC and D3 in general.  Had fun at Century Cage Camp there in HS. Has black squirrels.
3. Muskingum-Same colors as my HS.  Beautiful campus, beautiful setting for a game
4. Heidelberg-Very bold choice in colors.  Lost points when they went by The 'Berg instead of Student Princes
5.  TieJohn Carroll-plenty of pros and cons for this school pro: on a recruiting visit there I had a great meal with Coach DiCillo con: Dido pro: Its fun to say Wasmer con: One of my most obnoxious friends went there.  One time I saw him at a Jimmy Buffett concert and I wasn't wearing a shirt, just a coconut bra. And he slapped me on the back. I hate getting slapped on the back, but I wasnt going to risk getting arrested or hauled out of the concert becasue my dumbass friend wearing a Kappa Sig t-shirt slapped my back. pro:As a kid The Blue Streak was the only roller coaster at Conneaut Lake Park in Pennsylvania.  I liked that ride.  I really liked the Viking ship ride that swings back and forth.  I really liked the cotton candy con:
5. Tie Baldwin Wallace-Never really liked the campus. Can't explain why, but I didn't.  I bought my car from the father of the  kicker who posted on here a few times.  He was a pretty good guy and a good salesman. Without him they would be lower. Doeder got traded to them.
7. Wilmington I will admit I miss reading the prose of Busta99.  If he still contributed to the site they would be higher.  My good friend, Dane Richardson goaded him into a personal foul on a field goal by saying "What's up , Busta!"
8. Marietta-Based on one phone message cancelling a visit there due to a car accident Gene Epley judged that a "smart ass like [me] has no place at Marietta College".  He sent me a letter and a copy to my parents, head coach, principal, and guidance counselor.
9. Otterbein- Cross town rival. Get bonus points for not hiring Bickel as head coach which allowed him to join the Crusader staff and bring Boynton and Stepsis.
11. ohio northern-Will never get over Zarlinga throwing for 10 TDs in a game that had long since been decided.  Will never get over them going for two to make it 50-0 at the half.  Just alot of disdain for this football program. I also don't like pharmacists. Other than that its a nice campus.

yea the colors of bw might be bad, but at least they gave the visitors a heated locker room.  before cap redid their place, i dressed outside in the snow while cap moms walked by mocking because it was freezing outside!!  mount sticks the entire football team into a place where a volleyball team would be cramped, if you dont blow out a leg on the walk down the stairs at muskingum youll win the game obviously.  same with carroll, trying to dodge traffic while wearing cleats makes a fun trip(of course the same was true for bw trying to cross bagley, but at least wearing turf shoes not screw in cleats) otterbein was probably the best!  i never played at wilmington, hurt both those years, and same for marietta.  i think its safe to say that all away places blow, and nobody likes bw.
Go Eagles!
Go Jackets!
