Small but Slow

"Three things can happen when you throw the ball and two of them are bad," is a quote attributed to Woody comes to mind.

JK

I would guess that, especially if Garcon is 100%, that MUC might dust off the "forward pass" section of their playbook for the Stagg then?

You know, I have been playing/watching football for a while now, and I have never seen a team completely re-invent itself during the season, at least not with such great results.  Nor have I seen a team nearly completely abandon the pass and continue to win.  I have been asking myself "what the hell?" for two weeks now.  I have always maintained to anyone less knowledgeable about football that you have to be multi-dimensional to win, particularly as the level of competition increases.  MUC has completely disproven that theory, as they have become more ONE-dimensional in the playoffs.  I know that you prepare your game plan for each team based on what you see from them on film, but again, I have never seen a team, even against a weak run D, go to 90% run, unless it was their system.  I would suspect, particularly knowing how good a coach LK is, that he might have been, or still be, trying to lull opponents (in particular SJF last week and WW this week) into stacking the box to stop the run so he can get Garcon behind the secondary, and to prevent opposing DL's, like Kleppe, from pinning their ears back and rushing the passer since they have to play the run to prevent 300+ on the ground.

I'm not saying that LK wasn't focused on winning the game at hand, but you can't convince me that outstanding coaches like that aren't always looking ahead.  I believe that LK knew, deep down, that he could beat Cap and SJF by just running and that he would probably see WW in the Stagg again, therefore he didn't really want to show anything he didn't NEED to, since, I would think, he knows he will have to be a little more multi-dimensional to beat them.  I wouldn't be surprised to see more Jorris, more throws downfield, and maybe even some quick throws to Garcon on slants and bubble routes.  I really wouldn't be surprised to see some screens to Kmic or throws to him out of the backfield.

Just one man's opinion.  Part of LK's genius is that he, more than any coach I know, does what the opponent doesn't expect.  I guess we'll see this weekend.

JK,
I'm far from the first one on here to say it.  If you're getting 8+ yards per carry from your running game, why would you want to throw a pass? (See Woody's quote above for one answer.)

He does seem to have that knack.  Fortunately for him, he also has the athletes that can perform in many different situations.  That comes from practice and a good head coach too.

Making every four carries = two first downs.  Who needs to throw???

reality check

So far today...

We've found out that Garcon's hand injury hasn't effected his speed.  (Surprise)

We've had a 50+ carry prediction from the guy who told us last week that Kmic and Garcon would be getting multiple direct snaps.

And

An analysis of the bullemic MUC-caw vs. the anorexic yellow jacket...

Is this Stagg Week?!?  Where are the Whitewater fans?

After seeing Kmic & Co. dismantle a good Fisher run defense last week - I would give it to him every single time until UWW proves they can stop him.

Garcon will be there if you need him.

Small but Slow

LK knows what he's doing.  If I played poker he's not a guy I would want to play against.  Any team that can run the ball that efficiently would be foolish to abandon it, much as it would have been to let Gresko (no offense) carry 50 times a game with Ballard at QB.  He knows what he has and what the opposition has as well.

skunks_sidekick

RC - most of the WW fans think the game is going to be a hard-fought down to the wire affair.  However, there is one guy who claims Mount is on the way out, and with their "suspect secondary", WW will put one on Mount 35-10.

Now THAT'S the kind of myopic, silly predictions we LOVE to see!   ;D

skunks_sidekick

Oh......and I can't BELIEVE they didn't go to Garcon or even Kmic at QB!  Evidently......LK decided he didn't need it against SJF.  I heard that every time they started to call a play.......LK was overheard saying..."oh screw it.....give it to Kmic AGAIN".   ;D

That has been my thinking the last two weeks. And your right Small but Slow, Larry would be a very cagey poker player
